  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 02:07 PM) MM pitching like he did at his best is second only to Jenks in our pen, IMO. Maybe 2005 Bobby Jenks, but current Bobby Jenks has nothing on MacDougal when he is going good.
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Well the Brewers have bigger fish to fry now. Sheets leaves game in the fifth throwing a two hitter. They are saying some crotch tightness going on for the ace. he's not the ace anymore with C.C. in town.
  3. It was easily an error, play should have been made. However, they shouldn't change the scoring of the play after the fact to give him a no-no. If the scoring was to be changed, it should have been changed within an inning or so of the play.
  4. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) I've never hoped for any production out of any call ups. If you are trying to win a division with AAA guys, you are in trouble. If you are out of the race, it's a nice chance to get some MLB looks, but when every game, every AB matters, it's just a nicer plane ride and a nicer locker room. No one said anything about trying to win the division with the September call-ups... however, they sure do make a difference and add a lot to the team. Just because they are backups doesn't mean they don't contribute.
  5. Not trying to get ahead of myself, but how exactly does the playoff roster stuff work, how do you determine if you are elligible or not?
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) This Tigers Blog believes they have figured out the Elias Sports Bureau's formula for calculating Type A and B players. Toby Hall: 25.714, 33.334 points below the lowest Type B Ken Griffey JR: 68.816 TYPE B, 2.5 points below the lowest Type A Jim Thome: 66.000 TYPE B, 5.316 points below the lowest Type A Orlando Cabrera: 84.127 TYPE A, 13.379 points above the highest Type B Juan Uribe: 55.556, .938 points below the lowest Type B Joe Crede: 38.776, 17.718 points below the lowest Type B So assuming this thing is accurate Jim Thome is only a Type B, Juan Uribe is just below Type B and Joe Crede is going to net us nothing. Terrific Cabrera: 2 Thome: 1 Griffey: 1 Yeah, but what are the chances that this guy is actually correct?
  7. Quentin had a great month, but at this point, that's kinda expected. So, I went with PK, because with him hitting the ball, our team is a lot better.
  8. I really don't care... VP's are overrated.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) Frankly, with where contracts currently sit, he's also not paid like an ace either. yeah, but he's getting paid more then he should, and if he continues to go on this downward spiral, it will be tough to move that contract.
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Mark needs to stop throwing batting practice. What a frustrating year. He pitched well last year, when money was on the line. I still think it was a stupid move to give Buehrle that contract... He isn't an ace like White Sox fans make him out to be.
  11. f*** me... just f***ing punch him the chest with the tag when he tries that gay ass slide.
  12. I remember when a lot of people here, including myself, wanted Bowden via a trade... I'm glad that didn't happen, as we are the only team in the MLB that would have not been able to rough him up.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) Swing the freaking bat Swisher. The thing that pisses me off is we're benching a red hot Konerko to play this overrated player. well, he went 0-3 yesterday.... it's not like 6 other players did that as well.
  14. I am so f***ing sick of Swisher.
  15. Hudson has a very good fastball with tons of movement, which sits around 92 mph, IIRC. With the amount of movement Hudson has on his fastball, 90-92 mph would be plenty fast. I have also heard he has a nasty slidera as well, although I have not seen that pitch yet. If he doesn't make it as a starter, with his stuff, he could possibily be a SU guy.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) Owens can play defense... he just can't throw. I hope that was a joke comment... all from what I have seen from Owens is bad reads, bad angles, and just overall pretty terrible in the OF. I think Taveras is pretty crappy myself, but he is leaps and bounds better then Owens in every area of the game.
  17. He's got a huge ego, plays very mediocre D, and his bat ain't all that special. He's a decent player and all, but not worth 9 million a year for.
  18. that should be easily CQ... if he can raise his average over 300 before the end of the season, then he'll be a lock (as long as he stays healthy).
  19. Lets just hope those two other supplements Quentin puts into his protein shake are nothing illegal... not that I think he's a steroid guy.
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) In my world, I would like them both to be in AA and then move up to AAA for the rest of 2009, so that they can inflate their numbers and have confidence coming into the 2010 season. Realistically, when was the last time the Sox brought up two guys from their farm system and inserted them as everyday starters right away. 1999? with C-Lee and Singleton. This year sort of with Q and Alexei, but that doesn't happen often, so I am sure we will see them separate maybe next year. I'm talking about no more then maybe a month in A+. Just let them build up some confidence and get a running start into AA. However, if they rake in ST, I'd put them in AA right away. Then, after spending the majority of the season in AA, I'd promote them to Charlotte and let them build up a lot of confidence. If they have great seasons and rake all year, I'd think about giving them a cup of coffee in September. However, I don't think we should be in such a hurry to promote them, and instead wait until sometime in 2010. Perhaps have Beckham compete for starting 2B job in ST 2010 and have Danks come up midseason? Of course, this is all a best case scenario.
  21. I agree. However, I would promote them very quickly if they were producing.
  22. My god... are parents actually trying to turn their sons into little sissy girls? One of the biggest problems in America, IMO, is the de-masculization (is that even a word?) of young boys.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) I'd say between rookie & low A depending on the college team he played on (ie, conference/schedule), but High A is far more advanced than the typical college player could handle right out of the gates. The only potential exceptions are the true superstar collegiate players. I agree with this... High A is probably right below AA in terms of overall talent and just the level of play.
  24. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 07:12 PM) Ump's absolutely terrible blown call hands us the game. Where's all the b****ing about umpiring conspiracies against the Sox now? Where are all you guys? Also, AJ's not really a hero, he made a terrible baserunning mistake to begin with and got the benefit of a brutal call by Eddings. Even at full speed, it was pretty obvious AJ threw his arm out trying to get some sort of contact as he was dead and not going to run anymore. Agreed completely... and it's nice to see a bad call going in favor of us for once in a while. Umpires f*** up, so what... It's part of the game. I still don't think replay should be allowed.
  25. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) I remember I was going to SIU when the trade happened, my roomie (who was a cubs fan) calls me and tells me about the Pods trade. At the time I was livid... I was jumping in joy when I heard about the trade... I always thought of Carlos Lee as a POS and a distraction to the team.
