QUOTE (tommy @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Am I the only one surprised that Javy is starting game 1 and Gavin is in the pen? I think if Javy has nothing on the ball once again, and it looks like another long day is shaping up, then we pull Javy fast and put in Floyd and have him take Javy's spot in the rotation for game 4. If Javy actually shows up with something on the ball, then I see Floyd just being a safety net for the rest of the pitchers in this series, and Javy getting the nod once again on game 4.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) Then there's the fact that Nick Swisher is sporting a 20.9% line drive percentage and .249 BABIP, he's been VERY unlucky this year. He's hitting the ball hard but right at people. At least if you get Swisher out there you have the chance that these line drives are gonna start falling. I have watched the Sox tho whole year, and to say he's been "unlucky" is straight up BS. Swisher has simply sucked this whole year. He's looked uncomfortable at bat and quite simply has sucked up there.

Swisher shouldn't be in the lineup and neither should Wise. We should have Anderson out in CF and Griffey in LF. Also, Ramirez should bat second. Otherwise, I'd make no major changes to the lineup. The lineup should look, IMO, something like: 1. Cabrera, SS 2. Ramirez, 2B 3. Dye, RF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Griffey, LF 7. Pierzynski, C (who cares if we have two lefties back-to-back) 8. Uribe, 3B 9. Anderson, CF

QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) Yep, exactly what I'm thinking tonight, this game is so wonderful.......I'm so glad for all those close plays........bless those Twins A human aspect of blowing a play right in front of your eyes where a guy is out is not so much a human aspect to me. Blown calls have happened to every team in all of baseball history. Quit your b****ing. I'm sure if those calls were in our favor, you wouldn't be calling for full instant replay right now. A great team will always find a win, even through adversity like blown calls. Obviously we're not a great team, and far from it.

I'd rather die of cancer young then live the rest of my life without my penis.

Could you imagine how bad our rotation would be next year without Vazquez? He chokes a lot, but as a 4 or 5, he is definitely worth keeping. Plus, when he is going good, he's our best pitcher. I think people are underrating the fact that he might have a dead arm or something along those lines. Radar guns can't always be trusted when it comes to speed.

QUOTE (gosox41 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) White Sox Twins Year Wins Losses Finish Wins Losses Finish 2001 83 79 3 85 77 2 2002 81 81 2 94 67 1 2003 86 76 2 90 72 1 2004 83 79 2 92 70 1 2005 99 63 1 83 79 3 2006 90 72 3 96 66 1 2007 72 90 4 79 83 3 OUtside of 2005, this says a lot about KW and the Sox as an organization. In each of these 7 years, we have had a payroll at least $15 mill more then the Twins and as much as $40 mill more. And outside of the magical 2005 year, we can't finish ahead of these guys let alone have more then one playoff appearance. Why do I bring this up?? Because it shows that KW has to have a change in philosophy. It's been spoken about here a thousand times, and yet every year the same freaking team is trotted out. It's getting to be where mayble KW's slow, old power line up theor will out play good fundamental basbeall with a well balanced team about 10 of the time. Why can't KW get it already? I know we're not done yet this year, but does anyone feel good about the Sox after the last couple of weeks. And some fans make excuses about how we lost our 2 best hitters in 2004 or how TCQ and Crede were hurt this year. And while those have some validity, shall we discuss the players the Twins have lost over the last 7 years? It's time for KW to figure it out and put a balanced team in place that actually knows how to do more hten hit home runs. HR's are exciting, but you know what's more exciting winning. And you can win (and score lots of runs) if you have a more balanced offensive attack then this plodding station to station crapfest. Maybe people reading this will say this has been talked about way too much and it's old news. Appearantly it hasn't been talked about enough to reach KW and his ego. GET SOME GUYS ON THIS TEAM WHO KNOW HOW TO DO MORE THEN SWING FOR THE FENCES Great post, I completely agree.

I have the feeling tonight's gonna be a long night.

KW, win or lose, we need to rebuild for 2010/11

QUOTE (chisoxt @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 05:50 AM) No 'ideal' lineup should EVER have Swisher in CF. What are you thionking? My ideal but realistic lineup. Swisher isn't going anywhere after this season and Ozzie will continuely find a spot for him in the lineup. -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 05:57 AM) Quit kissing his ass because he has good stuff. Javy does this often, he has done it his whole career. it has nothing to do with injury, he shies away from big games. He had nothing on the ball, and anyone can see this. He hasn't had much on the ball since June. He had a little streach last month and little bit into September, but otherwise, he hasn't had anything on the ball. Are you going to tell me he was choking during big games in June? I agree with the aspect that Javy isn't a big game pitcher, but I am telling you, there's something wrong with his arm.

I posted it before, and I'll post it again, my ideal lineup for next year: 1. Figgins, 3B 2. Hudson, 2B 3. Quentin, RF 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Thome, DH 6. Dye, LF 7. Ramirez, SS 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Swisher, CF You could flip flop Dye and Konerko. Also, I think Dye has to be moved out of RF. I'm tired of seeing a guy with the speed of a turtle trying to track down balls out there. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 07:36 AM) Ah, I see. But Kerry Wood had elbow and shoulder problems, and as I have read elsewhere before, his arm angle and motion are his injury issues. And Floyd gets it up there at 93-94. Is Carter's velocity really much more than that? I think the key difference there isn't velocity, but motion. Floyd can hit 93-94 without it looking like he's pushing himself that hard. Thornton is another good example of that. Then there are guys like Danks who look like they are putting everything they have behind the pitch. Which one of those things is Carter? Well, throwing across your body correlates with your arm. I always think throwing across your body is a dangerous thing to do and comes with injury risks, but those risks are lesser for some.
-
I guarantee you Vazquez has either a dead arm or some sort of injury/discomfort he's not letting anyone know. For a while now, he has not had much on the ball, and last night was no exception. His fastball was barely hitting 90-91, and had very little movement compared to his good fastball. His changeup stayed up, his curve didn't curve, and his slider didn't slide. As of now, I would shut down Javy for the rest of the season, hoping he can regain some stuff come (hopefully) October.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) The article says the opposite. To wit: They tweaked his delivery and he's now throwing almost fully over the top. I don't know if you know what throwing across your body is, but it has nothing to do with which arm angle a pitcher uses. Throwing across your body means that your landing leg is ending up on your throwing side. So for a righty, their landing leg would end up on their right side, and vice versa for a lefty. The problem with this is because it often leads to a pitcher becomming off-balance, and can lead to added arm stress. Now, a lot of pitchers do throw across their body. But usually the pitchers with more velocity are more suspectable to injuries. Kerry Wood is a key example of this. Anyone who throws as hard as him while going across their body will get arm injuries no matter what. Gavin Floyd throws across his body, but because he isn't really a flame thrower, there's a much lesser chance for injuries. From what I've heard about Carter is that he has pretty decent velocity, and the fact he throws across his body scares me.

Sounds like Infante has a pretty live arm... seems like a guy to keep a closer eye on for next year. Also, looks like Silverio would fit in with the current MLB squad and Greg Walker just perfectly:

I saw this Saturday and thought that it was easily one of the funniest skits I have ever seen on either madtv or SNL. Of course there's some bias with me, but either way, it was utterly hilarious. I think the reasoning behind the fake logos was for trademark reasons.
-
All I can say is that I trust Javy a whole lot more then I do Buehrle this series.
-
I don't care either way. He's a decent bench player/4th OF, but no big loss if we trade him.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) lol, every now and again BearSox says something that isn't outrageously ridiculous. I'm a sensible person with bold views and strong opinions. If you don't like, oh well, ignore me

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) But if you have a manager openly questioning a key players ability to step up in the clutch, it just makes me think that if things go bad, they'll look in another direction this offseason. It really doesn't bother me either way they choose. Hasn't Ozzie done that with pretty much the whole team? He calls out players all the time, how is the case any different?

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) Vazquez's response tells you all you need to know about that paycheck-casher. Enjoy your retirement in Puerto Rico, you ungrateful idiot. He said he doesn't care what the fans think. Did he ever say he doesn't care about baseball and just goes through the motions every fifth day? Javy works about as hard as anyone on the team, and wants to win more then anyone else on the team. He's a true competitor, and gives it his all every start. To say he is a "paycheck-casher" and an "ungrateful idiot" is by far one of the stupidest and false statements I've seen on here.
-
I am a bit worried about the fact that Carter throws across his body... That could lead to injury problems down the line.
-
I have a feeling this series will be like that series in 05 when we knocked the Indians out of the playoffs in the final 3 games of the year. Obviously these games have more pressure on them, but I just have a good feeling about these upcomming games.
-
As of now, BA should be in CF with Wise in LF, with Swish not even coming close to the lineup and Griffey being the first bat off the bench.
-
ah, it seems so simple now... thanks!
