  1. Glad we got rid of Swisher, but we didn't get much in return. I like Betemit, and I think he can produce if given a chance to play everyday, and that might happen with us at 3B. I actually like his as a hitter more than Swisher. Marquez has potential, as from what I read he has a pretty good sinker and a very good changeup. Nunez, I don't know anything about. I mainly just wish we still had Sweeney, Gio, and DLS, but getting Betemit, Marquez, and Nunez for Swisher ain't bad, considering the money he will be due and that I think his value isn't gonna get any higher. I'd just like to tell everyone I told you so about Swisher.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 11:19 PM) Someone's rather down on young pitchers tonight. Mr. Scout says David Price only has one pitch and now Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey will basically wind up being Jon Garland... the k rate is nearly identical (even a tad better). If you're saying you don't want a young, cheap Jon Garland (the developed one, not the 5 era one), then I don't know what to say. Jon Garland at least had an array of pitches to help keep batters off, even though that array of pitches were average-below average. Pelfrey only has a sinker. I saw him pitch a few times this summer, and when hitters realize he only has that sinker, Pelfrey will get rocked. I'm not down on young pitchers, I call them how I see them. And right now, Pelfrey and Price aren't as good as they have been hyped up to be so far... This can change however with more coaching, etc.
  3. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) He allowed 2 H, 1 ER, and 8 K's in 5.2 IP with just a good fastball? I saw him make several good hitters look silly with his slider. Yeah, he got hitters out, but that was his first time around. He still has a lot more to prove to me, and a lot of other people, before I declare him some sort of phenom.
  4. QUOTE (HawkDJ @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 10:16 PM) http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endid=389063875 so? Couldn't it be his girlfriends myspace page?

Wait a minute, hold up... There are actually people who dislike pizza out there? WTF!(*@$(&*@
  6. QUOTE (rockren @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) They'll keep the core of Shields, Kaz, Garza, Sonny together, while having guys like Davis and McGee potentially battling with Price for the 5. They have a ridiculous amount of pitching and will look to deal Edwin Jackson because it makes sense to do so. As for not seeing what everyone sees in Price...you lost me there. Perhaps it's his fastball/slider look exactly the same at his release point with his slider being nearly unhittable at times. It certainly looked unhittable to Boston hitters who have never seen it before. The Rays would be wise to trade Sonnastine while his value is high. He is like a very poor man's right handed version of Mark Buehrle. Sonnastine will be lucky if he ever repeats the preformance he had last year. His stuff is one step above utter garbage. The sad thing is he shut us down.
  7. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) Price's slider is a solid plus-plus pitch. It's compared to Smoltz's in his prime. It's certainly not questionable. While, he must not have had that solid plus-plus slider in the playoffs. His whole approach is bad anyway. He has a delivery that would be deceitful to lefties, yet his slider is more effective vs. righties down and in. Also, his fastball had some good zip, but didn't have much movement. I'll tell you guys now, Price isn't going to be a stud starter but rather a solid middle of the rotation guy.
  8. It's funny though, while we are discussing this, I am doing my religion homework.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) I don't like Jackson at all, not any more than Daniel Cabrera anyways, who will almost certainly be much cheaper to acquire and is a very similar pitcher. I think he could be a dynamite setup man, but I just don't care for him much as a back end of the rotation starter. I also think Aybar is a solid player, but he seems more like a real good utility player to me than a starter. I brought something like that up a while ago, but if the Sox deal Dye to the Rays, I'd make sure I'm getting Garza or Shields (probably Garza), because you won't get Kazmir or Price while Jackson and Sonnanstine seem like mediocre options for the Sox. I'd even give up another player to get Garza or Shields, simply because both are more valuable than Dye, though I don't know who Tampa would be interested in. One key to watch, as it always is with Williams, is what kind of pitching he brings in. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him bring in a project, a veteran on an incentive laden deal, and a starting pitching prospect. I could see Pedro Martinez getting signed and having an impact some-what like El-Duque's from 05. Also, I doubt we'll see any of Garza, Sheilds, or Kazmir traded. And while Price is obviously untouchable, I don't see what everyone sees in him.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) Eh, if you're willing to allow ads promoting a religion, you should be willing to allow ads promoting atheism. That's just my simple thought. I don't disagree... But my point is that it's a horrible attempt by this group.
  11. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) Come on, it goes both ways. I don't even know what that's from. I think it's just silly for a group to try and denounce god when clearly the majority of the population does believe in god, or at least some sort of higher being.
  12. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) I honestly do not have a problem with it. At the most basic level it is a step in the right direction, people being good. Currently there is a lot of hypocrites among the good for goodness sake crowd. I get the group doesn't believe in God, but it wasn't a smart move by them. It basically seems like they are intentionally trying to attack anyone who believes in God. A much better slogan would have been something like "You don't have to believe in God to be good." Or, they could have simply took away the "Why believe in God?" and just had the "Be good for goodness sake" there.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) Interesting. I asked that question to see if you followed the same line of thinking and you did. I like the consistency. I'm going to go slap my Darwin fish back on my Civic. Obviously I don't agree with those stupid darwin fish, and I think people who don't believe in god will go to hell (I'll probably be down there as well, so don't worry), but everyone has a right to their opinion... no matter how stupid or idiotic it may be
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) What do you consider a Darwin fish to be? The same thing as a Jesus fish, someone's expression of what they believe. Just like a Jesus fish, a dawrin fish doesn't try to convert people. I don't see how a Jesus fish is any different than a sox flag someone might have on their car.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 08:54 PM) Why do I see cars covered with Jesus fish stickers on the highway everyday? Some people feel the need to advertise to others what their beliefs are. It goes both ways. Putting a jesus fish on the back of your car is completely different than putting out ads on buses telling people pretty much that there is no need for god. Man, those two things aren't even comparable. If anything, a jesus fish is an expression of someone's belief in god while this stupid bus ad is trying to convert people to atheism.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) touche... but the first step is still coming up together at the same time I've been critical of KW and the scouting department the past two years, but they have really taken a couple big steps in the right direction. I remember I hated the Poreda pick at the time (mainly because we passed on Porcello), but I am starting to really like it (especially if his mechanics are cleaned up and he continues to develop his secondary pitches).
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) You better get back at least one prospect that you know can be on your 25 man roster next season. Those Mets pitchers would be a disappointing return. I personally would love a Dye for Edwin Jackson and Willy Aybar deal. We could then either deal Fields for pitching help or have Fields and Aybar kind of platoon at 3B. It would also make any trade of Vazquez safer as we wouldn't have two holes in a rotation if we do trade him.
  18. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) i am not opposed to dealing Jenks. His price is about to skyrocket. His Ks are declining. He doesn't stay in shape. And he has that screw in his arm. But ... we don't have anybody to fill that role. That's Kenny's dilemma. I guess that's the definition of a dilemma right there... two equally good and bad choices.
  19. I don't see a need why people need to advertise this though. A good majority of americans, and people in general, have some belief in a greater being. I don't see why anyone's belief in god should be questioned. It's the groups money, but it's a big waste of money, as I highly doubt anyone who believes in god would suddenly change their mind about their belief by one stupid add. It might attract some atheists who are out to get christians, but that's about it, IMO.
  20. I'd be nice to see him and Danks come up at the same time.
  21. she's definitely a cutie, and that's a nice name for her as well. Congrats!
  22. I don't give a crap, they could go to hell for all I care. Actually, they will go to hell, HA! But you know if that sign said why believe in allah, or something like that (sox4lifeinpa's post about the why be gay was a good example)... there'd be nothing but protests.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) He was always one very smart hitter with the Dodgers. He certainly wasn't one of the best hitters, but at least he looked like he knew what he was doing up there. Can't say that about a lot of our hitters.
  24. Fukudome is so overrated. He's gonna be out of the league and back in Japan after his contract is up, if not earlier, IMO.
