QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) I've been saying all along, this is the guy KW will sign. I would have agreed with you if he wasn't asking for 5 years at 50 million.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) manny will never ever be on the White Sox. If Guillen had a problem with anderson and Swisher's attitudes, what do you think he will say a bout Manny. You can dream all you want but Manny will never be on this team. And hopefully that's the case. I can't understand why any team would want to bring that piece of crap into their organization. I don't care how much offensive help you need, the guy is a POS.

ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...

What do you think we could get for just Jenks? We won't get what the Rangers got for Ugerith Urbina when they traded him to the Marlins, but I'd expect something near to that. -
If you asked me a couple of weeks ago, I would have said Jackson and Aybar would have been our main targets, but since we got Betemit who is very similar to Aybar, we can cross him off of the list. Edwin Jackson would still likely be the guy we'd want, plus prospects. Jackson has the type of arm that any GM would want, but has had control issues, and if he could finally put it all together, you're talking about a damn good starter. If not he is still a solid back end of the rotation starter, who could also thrive in a bullpen role. What are people'e thoughts on Jake McGee of the Rays?

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) Does all this mean KW is going after K-Rod??? I hope not. Some team is gonna regret giving him all that money he wants. K-Rod's best days are behind him. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) I would say Josh has an above average arm, but nothing special for 3B. Maybe even below league average at that position. Now Viciedo, he's supposed to have a gun. Fields has a great arm... however, that's all he has going for him at third base as he has that problem with his hands turning into stone and all.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Ya, this is good cause it was being talked about in another thread. An initial rumor reported Heilman and Pelfrey being part of the deal. Did ESPN later revise this to mention Pelfrey and Martinez? I could live with a package centered around those two, but obviously the Sox have to be getting something else in return. Could Murphy be the 3rd piece? Would anyone be interested in that type of haul. The Mets would clearly be getting the best talent in the current stand-point, however, the Sox would shed payroll (hopefully for another move) as well as land 3 long-term pieces, one of which who has the chance to be a potential superstar (Martinez). I'd love to get Murphy in any deal with the Mets. The guy is a ball player, and we know we need more guys who are that. -

From what I've heard about Martinez, he isn't a future CF, but either a future RF or 1B, as his body develops. If we trade Jenks AND Vazquez, I want Beltran in return. I think Martinez is still much too big of a question mark for us to dealing to solid pieces of our pitching for. And Pelfry's overrated. He's a solid pitcher, but he isn't a stud some thought he will be (unless he develops another pitch). -
Matt Kemp isn't a leadoff hitter and would cost a LOT to get.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) Forget about Hinske! The biggest need for the Royals is reliable/consistent OF power. Swisher would have been a good fit for them as well. The irony is that after Quentin, the two players that might help them the most are Dye and Konerko. Now whether they would be willing to trade DeJesus for either of those guys AND take on their contracts without getting money back/subsidy, well, that's another question entirely. We don't really have any pitching depth we can afford to give up. We certainly don't have a CF, lol. We can't be sure whether Crisp will play LF or CF in KC, maybe a little of both. Crisp is gonna play CF for KC, unless they think Maier is a better defender in CF and he is ready for the bigs. And if Maier is a better defender than Crisp in CF, than Maier is a pretty damn good defender. Also, I wasn't saying someone like Dye or Konerko would be traded to either the Royals or Baltimore, but rather we'd trade in part of a 3-way deal or something like that. Also, I really like the idea of bringing Hinske in as a situational/bench player. He provides us with a left handed bat off the bench with decent pop, some speed, and versatility.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) I can't wait...24 is amazing. Correction, Jack Bauer is amazing. 24 on the other hand has had it's ups and downs. Season 1 however is easily the greatest season of any tv show ever created though, IMO.

I haven't worked this out at all, but a lineup of the following would be nice (I'm assuming Fields, Getz, and Dye are traded, among others): 1. Roberts, 2B (S) 2. DeJesus, LF (L) 3. Quentin, RF (R) 4. Thome, DH (L) 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Ramirez, SS (R) 7. Pierzynski, C (L) 8. Betemit/Hinski/Viceido/? (S/L/R/?) 9. Anderzon, CF (R) We'd need some offensive presence to fill in at CF though as I still don't buy Anderson as an everyday CF, but that lineup would be very solid with much more speed, and better D. EDIT: I also know we don't have the resources to make such moves though.

Does Viceido get added to the 40 man as well?
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) That might just be your 2010 White Sox infield only with Brandon Allen in place of a certain someone. I think if Konerko shows some life within the next two years and puts up solid production, we could see him return, at either 1B or DH.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) No "Little Boy and Fat Man" jokes here, please!!! I like Jake and the fatman.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Doubt it. His usefulness is diminishing, and he won't be around long enough for when they are a contending team in 2-3 seasons. Most importantly, they want to give the majority of playing time to Callaspo from all appearances. He was a good stopgap/transition player to give them some respectable veteran leadership in this "bridge" period the roster is undergoing from abysmal to competitive. If he doesn't get arb, we should seriously consider signing him. In the mean time, we should try and get DeJesus to be our CF/leadoff hitter. I know he isn't much of a centerfielder, but I think he's better than both Swisher and Griffey in center (not saying much though) and he's a very good hitter and getting better.
-
The fact that is fastball suddenly jumped from the low 90's to the mid 90's and even touching 96 is a bit suspicious.
-
I was wondering why we weren't being associated with the O-Dog much, and now I know why. No way we give him 5 years 50 million with his past, and the fact we have replacements waiting in the wings. Anyone know if the Royals are gonna give Grudz arb? I know we signed Nix and all, but Grudz would be a perfect platoon partner with Getz at 2nd base.

Cubs targeting Teahen? Does that make sense?
BearSox replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) Teahen has already been pushed out of the picture by Crisp, Guillen, and DeJesus. Moustakas isn't close to ready. Gathright is a 4th OF at best. Gordon has no challengers at 3B. Shealy is on the outside looking in and probably doesn't have a whole lot of trade value. Jacobs, Kila, and Butler are really the ones fighting for 2 spots. Dealing Teahen and Shealy might get them a couple parts, but nothing that is all that significant on the surface. Actually, a Cubs deal based around Ronny Cedeno for Teahen might work very well for both clubs. The Royals could then move Aviles to 2B. I think the Royals are planning on having Callaspo be their 2B. They could use some depth though as I think Aviles isn't all that great. -
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) Am I weird for never having drugs or alcohol ever appeal to me? Keep in mind I'm a senior in high school and I'd say at least 90% of my classmates drink every weekend, and a good portion smoke, and a smaller portion do even bigger stuff then just pot. Wow. Here this whole time I thought you were a seasoned MLB scout QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) Wait till you get to college, man. I'm in the same boat as you I'll drink socially, yeah, but the idea of just getting trashed and waking up with a splitting headache has no appeal to me. I'm a prodigy don't worry...

This is a very interesting case for the Royals. I'm not sure if they will or won't trade DeJesus. I guess it all depends on their plans for Guillen, Teahan, Butler, and Maier. With that being said, I'd love for us to get DeJesus. -
do the Twins move into their new stadium next year or in 2010?
-
QUOTE (MO2005 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) Seriously instead of investing so much time into this post, invest it into some common sense..Number one why does ANYONE want these players on this team. They make no sense anywhere near this team. Eric Hinske vs. Brian Anderson? Jason Varitek vs. Cole? Pedro Martinez vs. Clayton Richard or Poreda. It is a waste of a couple million dollars that could be used elsewhere. Speed does not slump!!! If you throw guys like Jerry Owens, Wily Taveras, Chone Figgins, etc. etc. into speed roles, they will use speed to create opportunities. Winning in baseball involves role players. If Owens job is to bunt to create an opportunity, then let him bunt 100 times next year to get into a pitcher's head that he is hard to get out. Look what makes the Twins so damn successful. Everyone hates them because guys like Gomez and Span will bunt to just create opportunities. What I am saying is instead of talking about backup guys that we already get enough of on this team should be swapped for guys like Nick Punto, what about him? Howie Kendrick, what about him? Damn I'll even go out on a limb here and say Felix Pie as a back-up..Kenny knows he needs someone to put some fear into opposing pitchers! Wow, this post is so awful I don't even know where to begin.
