  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) Or a 2 year deal for Manny Ramirez to play LF and DH occasionally, with Quentin moved to RF in the reported Dye trade. Can you imagine Manny, Quentin, Thome and Konerko as the middle of the line-up? Doubt it would happen, but nice to dream. And I wouldn't count out either Nix or Viciedo quite yet. I'd rather not have a POS like Ramirez on my team, no matter how good of a hitter he was.
  2. I guess Gilmore and Rodriguez, if the reports are indeed correct, could be possibilities for the top 10. We gotta get futuresox back up to speed!
  3. well, we mustn't forget that we did sign Viciedo, which is what, about 2 million? If we trade Dye, I'd guess we'd be looking at something between 30-35 million off of the books.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Pretty sure Furcal could handle it. I like it, but Dye would need to be traded for a solid starter. If it could be done, you could have something..... lol, I kind of jumbled my thoughts there. A lot of going on today. I doubt we'd go and sign both Furcal and Dunn. I was just thinking I would love to get Dunn, but if that were the scenario, Furcal would be unlikely. However, if I want to get my ps3 up and running... 1. Furcal, SS 2. Ramirez, CF 3. Quentin, RF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Dunn, LF 7. Fields/Betemit, 3B 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Getz/Lillibridge, 2B That's a nice lookin' lineup right there, if you ask me. The only problem is that your looking at probably at least 250 K's, but likely more, from the 5 and 6 spots together.
  5. If we do make a play for Furcal, that'd obviously mean the official move Alexei to CF, which might not be a bad thing if he picks it up rather easily. I would still love to see us make a move for Dunn, if we do trade Dye. Makes sense considering Thome only has 1 year left on his contract and we'd need a lefty power bat to replace his. However, it'd be kind of counter-productive in our attempt to get more ball players (as in guys who are fundamently sound), speed and less K's. Plus, we'd still need to get ourselves a leadoff hitter. We'd get younger however.
  6. This trade is looking like a winner for both teams, IMO. Vazquez is a lot better then people give him credit for around here, and while we get back a lot of talent, the major pieces (Flowers, Gilmore, and Rodriguez) won't be ready for a couple more years, and even then, they're still question marks.
  7. It's gonna suck if we wake up in the morning and find out either Vazquez failed his physical and we were going to get back Lillibridge, Flowers, Gilmore, and Morton, or if these rumors are way off and we end up with Lillibridge, Flowers, and f***ing Jo Jo Reyes (which would still be a nice haul, but a major disappointment from all these other names flying around).
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) Gilmore isnt all that great, Morton is a much better prize. From everything I have read, Gilmore has a s*** load of potential, and I liked his swing from what I saw in the scouting video. I'd take him alone over Morton.
  9. I have never really been a fan of Lillibridge's, and while he does have potential, I see him being a utility/platoon player.
  10. I'd take Santos and Gilmore over Morton, but if we could get Morton and Gilmore, talk about high way robbery. Also, if the second player we were including was anyone major, we'd have heard rumors.
  11. Here is Jon Gilmore's perfect game profile: http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerp...e.aspx?ID=16827 I really hope we get him after reading that scouting report. He sounds like he has a ton of potential and is a hard-nosed ball player as well.
  12. just from looking at the stats, I really like this Jon Gilmore. Very impressive stats for a guy coming out of high school.
  13. In my opinion: 1. Beckham - He was the 8th overall pick in a draft of what, over 5,000 players? I think that says a lot. 2. Poreda - Hated this pick at first, but it's tough not to like lefties with high 90's velocity with sink! 3. Viciedo - For a guy I have never seen before, this is a bit of a reach. However, he's 19 and we gave him such a big contract because the talent must be there. 4. Flowers - Bit old for A Ball (will likely start in AA), but then again he raked in the AFL, which is loaded with talent. 5. Danks - Has the talent, now lets see him put it together. 6. Getz - Probably one of the best, if not the best, true ball player we have in the organization. 7. Allen - Ton of power potential and he has only been getting better. 8. Shelby - Very similar to Allen, except he's got speed and might turn out to be a solid defender in the OF. 9. Lillibridge - Has potential, but at the very least should be a solid utility/platoon player. 10. Hudson - I liked this guy since we drafted him, dominated at rookie ball, and by this time next year, I could see him being in our top 3 prospects.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) He showed very good power this year in the AFL so I don't think it's much of an issue. Well, lets hope his power is a result of working hard in the weight room, and not finding a new PED that, as of now, is undetacble by urine tests.
  15. I think Lillibridge as nothing more then a utility/situational player after I've seen him play and looked at his minor league stats. And I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the league doesn't think too highly of Lillibridge.
  16. I don't know if it has been mentioned, but I guess Flowers got busted for PED's in 2006. I really hope that his positive test results are from him taking some sort of supplement that he didn't realize was on the banned list. If it's Lillibridge, Flowers, and Morton, that's a great deal. If it's Lillibridge, Flowers, Morton, and another player, damn this was a hell of a deal. As most people know, I have been in favor of keeping Vazquez, but when you practically get 4 for 1 (I don't count Boone, he was as good as gone), and 3 of those 4 are players like Lillibridge, Flowers, and Morton, that's a good ass deal. Anyone ever think we might see a platoon of Getz and Lillibridge at 2B?
  17. Good news to see Boone go (however, he'll probably be used correctly in Atlanta and be a good LOOGY), too bad we couldn't throw Owens in the deal as well.
  18. If we got Mike Gonzalez, or even Rafael Soriano, as part of the deal, I'd be a happy man. I'd prefer Gonzalez, but he's a bigger injury risk. Also, if we got Gonzalez, that could/would make Jenks more expandable.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) Reyes isnt in the deal from what I hear. And you may not like the deal straight up, but wait until KW spend the money saved.... I assume we will be taking on a contract from the Braves as they aren't the ones to usually take on a lot of extra cash without dumping some elsewhere. And I hope dearly that you are correct and fatty Reyes isn't a part of the deal.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) HE'S BIG BONED! Plus, with Lillibridge we could stop bit%%ing about a leadeoff hitter. If we are planning on having Lillibridge as the leadoff hitter... well, he'd be better then Owens, but he wouldn't be a good one.
  21. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) Dye's value just went down. Abreu, Burrell, and Dunn will not cost draft picks. Ouch. I hope none of these guys were in the Reds plans and we can still get Bailey and whatnot. If we didn't already have a glut of slow, high K rate, power hitters, I would have loved for us to get either Burrell or Dunn.
  22. We better get a better deal then f***ing Lillibridge and fatty Jo Jo Reyes.
  23. If we acquire another middle infielder, he better be a stud. And Lillibridge is far from a stud. I saw a little of Lillibridge this year and was massively underwhelmed, and from looking at his career stats, blah. As for Jo-Jo Reyes, yuck. I have seen him only a few times, and that was a few times too many. I'd take Richard over him any day of the week. If it was just Lillibridge, Reyes, and another piece of crap prospect, I'd puke, it'd make us immediately worse. If that 3rd prospect is anything worth-while though, it might be a decent trade. I'd do Vazquez plus some cash (I know that isn't the Sox m.o.) for Escobar straight up however. Escobar, unlike Lillibridge, is a stud.
  24. Yeah, I forgot to say don't put too much stock into the scouting reports. They are nice to see, to kind of get a feel for a player you don't know much about, but they are far from perfect.
  25. I was looking at some stats, and when I went to the baseball cube, I noticed the hole site was updated. I was liked it because it had all their stats dating back to college, as well as all their transactions, injury history, etc. Now, they have also included a picture of the player (if you are like me and ever wonder what some minor leaguers you've never seen look like), and a scouting report where they judge a players abilities on a scale from 1-100 using stats. Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up! www.thebaseballcube.com
