  1. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) speak for yourself, and read the posts that make the most of your time If Garcia makes the team, I'll give you a cookie.
  2. ugh....... yeah, this is just a waste of everyone's time. Garcia is done as a pitcher, I'd be shocked if he stays healthy for spring training.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 11:59 PM) Morneau and Mauer and it isn't even close. Both are still young and overall far less injury prone (although Mauer has had his share of injury problems as well). That said if Quentin does what he did last year for a career he's the best of the bunch. Exactly what I was gonna say when I saw this thread. However, the best of both worlds would be Mauer and Quentin (if last year wasn't just an aberration).
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) I got it about three weeks ago. I think as a hockey game, its awesome. I mean everything is so realistic and it's a generally fun game. However, beyond the game playing, there is not much else to offer IMO. The Be-a-Pro mode is fun for awhile but gets kinda boring. You can work you're way up to your NHL team's first line pretty quickly, so that lost my interest somewhat. The dynasty mode is deep, but hockey is just as much for dynasties in my opinion as the other sports. It's not that expensive of a game anymore and definitely fun to play, so I would recommend it, but if you looking for an NCAA 09 type game, that it is not, in that the dynasty mode enthralls you. I played the demo, and had fun, but had little to no idea what I was doing. I'm basically looking for a sports game to hold me over until MLB the show 2009.
  5. This is a sad day in America when someone like Al freakin Franken is gonna become a U.S. Senator.
  6. Not much of a hockey guy, but thinking about getting NHL 09. Being a guy who's kind of a neanderthal when it comes to hockey, would it be worth it for me (I want to learn!)?
  7. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Ozzie has a Venezuelan mancrush on Michael Young. Why? I have no freaking idea. His defense sucks like a fat kid on a Capri Sun. There is not a single everyday shortstop that is worse defensively. Check that, DeRack JeeTAH might be worse, but at least he bent Pre-Glitter Mariah Carey over his ottoman. While Young is a perennial All-Star his offensive numbers do not impress either. .317 OBP away from Rangers Ballpark from a guy with limited power? Michael Young better thank his lucky stars that he ended up in Texas, if his ass wound up in Safeco, he would have been selling insurance five years ago. Really. Seriously. He blows. Grindy? Yes. Worth $80,000,000 in this market? Uh-Uh Girlfriend. Excellent post... You remind me of Dr. Cox from scrubs.
  8. You forgot about Pat Burrell and Milton Bradley. If they were free agents last year, you'd be talking about a 4 year 60 million dollar deal for Bradley and a 5 year 70 million dollar deal for Burrell, or something along those lines. Anyway, excellent post either way.
  9. Yeah, but how many rumors has KW, or any GM for that matter, not deny? A smart GM is never gonna admit anything.
  10. I don't know, I still think we will sign Garland to a 2 year deal at about 17-18 million.
  11. http://stations.espn.go.com/stations/espnr...mp;post=3822498 Basically, the rumor is Dye and Poreda for Michael Young. Now I don't mind Young as a player, but even trading Dye for him would be terrible, let alone Dye and Poreda. Odds are nothing comes from this and it's just another rumor, but I'd be disgusted if we give up a lot to get someone like Young. This also leads to another question, what's with all these rumors for 2nd basemen? First O-Dawg, then Roberts, now Young. Call me crazy, but if we really wanted a 1-2 year stop gap at second base, why don't we just get a cheap solid vet to play 2B and possibly platoon with Getz while we wait for Beckham to develop? Why not go after someone like Grudz who'd be a perfect stop gap at 2B for a year or two? I know he'd cost a draft pick, but if we feel 2B is that big of a need (which I personally don't think it is and a Getz/Lillibride platoon would suffice), it'd be better losing that draft pick than trading a lot for either Roberts or Young, or giving more years and money to the O-Dawg. Am I stupid, or does that not seem like a logical route to take?
  12. Yeah, so I'm gonna say that this was indeed bull...
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Wrigley is a launching pad too. It is (at times), but no stadium compares to the ballpark in arlington. Also, considering he'll have to play the field everyday, I think that will effect his numbers as well.
  14. Size 12 as long as they don't have Anna's face. However, I'd probably prefer someone between an 8 and a 12, so a 10 I guess...
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) That's all? I would have thought it would be higher too... The Few. The Proud. The Circumcised. It is from wikipedia that I got that number... but I think they are a lot more reliable then people give them credit for.
  16. while skimming through this wonderful thread, a question popped into my head... is there any difference from the circumcision at birth done by a doctor at the hospital then the circumcision done at a bris or religious ceremony? EDIT: I just did some quick research on my own, and it turns out about only 30% of males have been circumcised. I thought it'd be a lot higher number then that, maybe 50%. Also, only 32% of that 30% are non Muslim.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) Milton Bradley is Carl Everett except a little better hitter and fielder. I like that comparison. Also, while he is a solid hitter, he isn't gonna sniff those numbers he had last year. I'm thinking if he does stay healthy and out of trouble for 130 games, the Cubs can expect something like a .265-275 average, 20 homers, 70 rbi's, and an OBP around .360-.370. Not bad at all, but his numbers will take a hit since he won't be playing half of his games at that ulta hitters friendly ballpark anymore.
  18. Fantastic move for them. Also, I'm loving this new market where solid players like Burrell aren't getting 5 years, 70 million anymore. Hopefully it'll stay like this for a while, but once teams get into better financial situations, teams will once again overpay for free agents.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Judging by how fast the market has fallen for 2nd tier free agents, I would be surprised if Garland signs a deal worth more than $21 million or three years. Pat Burrell getting 2 years, 16 million is a pretty clear indication that players who would have made 12-14 million last year won't be getting that this year. I can definitely see Garland only getting 3 years 21-24 million. Hell, even the Milton Bradley deal is cheap compared to what type of contracts players were getting in the previous 2 years (it was in 06 when contracts started to get crazy, right? That's when the Cubs signed Soriano and set the market, I believe). I like how the other poster pretty much indicated that Garland would not settle for 7 million a year, even though Burrell made 14 million last year.
  20. If this is true, which I have doubts about, I like it as long Martinez's contract is incentive laden. I think Martinez could potentially play a role similar to El Duque did in 05. He's a bigger injury risk though, but he's a solid vet who might not have real good stuff anymore, but knows how to pitch. As for Lloyn, he'd be a decent innings eater out of the pen with some closing experience.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) BearSox MadLibs ™ I didn't release my book yet, where'd you get that!?!?!?
  22. I don't mind the idea of selling high on Floyd, but it honestly only makes sense if we are planning to trade Dye for a solid starter, and sign another.
  23. I think it was a good trade for both teams. We got a 4 good young prospects, and they got a pitcher who can be their no. 1 or 2, or at least be a solid 4 or 5. They also got a good LOOGY, if used properly. I think both teams will be happy this trade.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 30, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) This is the first White Sox fan President, and he's constantly seen wearing a Sox cap. I think they really have to do it, regardless of who he is or what party he is affiliated with. I view my sports as I view my religion... I want no politics in them. But yeah, they'll make a lot of money off of this.
