You'd be crazy not to want Hinske on the bench, IMO, depending on if he doesn't cost a ton. He's a lefty who has some good pop, has some speed (10 swipes this past season), and can play all the corner positions with at least decent D. I'd be all for this move.
-
Good move by the Royals, IMO, Crisp fills in nicely there. They'll likely move DeJesus to LF, which is his better position, let him leadoff, and have Crisp bat second while occupying CF.

QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) I was just looking over Wilson Betemit's career stats and I'm scratching my head wondering why this guy continues to try switch hitting. Year after year it seems pretty obvious... as a right-handed hitter he sucks. Not a little bit... major suckage. Sub-Uribian. As a left-handed hitter, he's simply a much better player. Not all-star but pretty respectable. Link to his career stats/splits You'd have to think at some point, somebody would tell him, "Hey... do you know what? You are not a switch hitter! Stop hitting right-handed... you're not good at it. Just hit left-handed from now on. You couldn't do worse." He's also only had 250 career AB's right handed...

What is everybody's thoughts on Pedro Martinez in some-sort of incentive laden deal where he's our 5th starter?

I'm pretty sure the Dodgers drafted a girl a few picks before they drafted Piazza.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Why? Sox are set on moving Ramirez to SS, and Hardy doesn't give you any speed. I'd move Hardy to 3rd, and trade Fields.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) I would honestly think if the Brewers were going to try and compete the Sox and Brewcrew could work a blockbuster deal involving Jenks. Brewers have a lot of nice chips and you could even expand to go after Prince Fielder (although Fielder's value is > Jenks in my book). I'd love to get JJ Hardy...

I think the greatest stat about Pujols is his K numbers. He is not only one of the best power hitters in the league, but he doesn't K a billion times a year like other power hitters. Between 50-60 K's for a player now a days is incredibly low for any type of hitter. He's no Joe DiMaggio though... Also, I love that Pujols doesn't sacrifice average for power like a lot of hitters. It amazes me that a lot of people don't see him as the best player in baseball still. As for Tex, he is a great player as well. However, I'm trying to figure out how he hits lefties with his right handed stance/approach. If I were him, I'd stick to only lefty, but for some reason he still put up as good, if not better splits, right handed.

Twins' targets: Blake/Atkins, Hardy/Escobar
BearSox replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
I could see the Twins signing Cabrera... but you know if they do, Cabrera is gonna bat .300+ and just be a pain in our ass. -
I think if Mac can show some signs in ST or during the season at Charlotte, he can either be called back up to big league club if we need relief help, or be used in a trade for a team that really needs bullpen help.
-
I really hope to see K-Rod stick with the Angels, and see Wood not sign with New York. I think of all the teams, New York would be the most willing to overpay for Jenks.

Corky Miller is simply not that good.

Those directv commercials with clips of movies annoy the hell out of me. You see the same commercial every f***ing commercial break it seems like. I mean those commercials aren't that bad of an idea IMO, but they shouldn't have the same movie clip but rather alternate them. Also, I hate the viva Viagra commercial. Not only is it annoying, it's awkward as hell when you're watching tv with family. I think every commercial involving the phrase "ED" should be banned.
-
We clear a spot on the 40 man roster, and if Mac dominates at Charlotte, we can call him back up or even use him as trade bait for a team that needs bullpen help. And if not, we eat a couple million. This is a very good move, IMO.

that's pretty sick.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) Why are we thinking that Boras wouldn't get an opt-out clause? JD Drew got one. Manny created one. ARod got one. Burnett got one. I'll bet there are other guys that get them who we never hear about them because they suck so badly (Zito). Well, if it was me, I wouldn't even have Boras as my agent. I'd be my own agent.

Anyone see the protesters pretty much attack an old woman who was protesting against them? She had a big cross, the protesters ripped it out of her hands, and starting stomping on it. Wow, real classy. I don't know if I am against gay marriage (and being gay in general) because I find it morally wrong or because of these idiots who do such stupid crap. Attacking an old lady, invading a catholic church, etc... of course though the MSM won't have much a problem with this.

QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) Man get out of here, I surely hope you are joking For 200 million I would sign a lifetime contract with the Nationals.. regardless, he could prolly get similar money from a better team but still, 200 million to play a game for 6 months out of the year is nice no matter where you are playing. Some things are more important than money, one of them is not playing for an organization like the Nats.

I'm telling you guys, Sweeney's gonna break out next year with a full year of pro-ball under his belt. He might not be some super star, but he'd be a solid piece on any team. I think he'd play great D in LF for us (He could play RF with his arm, but I like my LF's to throw lefty, and my RF's to throw righty), hit around .290 or higher, not K a ton, get a lot of doubles, hit at least 15 homers (if not in the 20's), and be a very solid run producer.
-
Oh man, would I love to land Daniel Murphy. Man, he is a ball player. Talk about someone with a real solid approach to the plate to go along with a nice swing as well. Murphy is up there ready to hit, yet he is very patient. I would love to get him plus another couple of pieces from the Mets for Jenks or even Vazquez, or even possibly Dye. I'd put Murphy at either 3rd and trade Fields (anyone know how his D at 3rd is), or in a corner OF spot if Dye is traded.
-
The only thing that would prevent me from signing the dotted line is that I would have to play for Nationals.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) why in gods name would the rays trade garza? he's young, cheap, good and they just traded delmon young to get him. Why would they trade him for an aging RF who should probably be playing DH that costs 12 mil per? These threads are getting ridiculous. Secondly, to those who don't think Price has good breaking stuff...you haven't watched him. His slider is filthy this is from Baseball America last year... Keep in mind also that this was Price's first year in pro ball, and he missed the first month of the season so when you saw him it was only after 19 games of seasoning in the minors. Poreda had 12 games in the minors last year, so what you saw out of Price was basically what you would have seen with Poreda had Poreda made the team out of ST this year. Price also struck out a batter per inning, Poreda K'd 118 in 161 IP this year. Price is the real deal...hes got an unreal attitude and drive as a competitor. He's gonna be a top 3 pitcher in baseball in 2 years IMO. Of course I am somewhat biased having seen him pitch his entire college career I did not see such a great slider in the playoffs. However, it is a small sample size and he is still raw as a pitcher. I still stand by my theory of him being an over-hyped prospect who will turn out to be a good pitcher, but never great. He only has two pitches, and neither greatly impressed me. If he can develop a solid change to go along with his above average fastball and only decent slider (which still might get better, or might not have really been there for him in the playoffs), he can become a top of the rotation guy, IMO. It also never hurts that you're a lefty... I really don't like his delivery though, as it's only really deceitful to lefties, and as I stated earlier, his slider is/will be more effective vs. righties. We'll see... I doubt he becomes one of the top 2 or 3 starters in the league, but you never know.

I hope we at least offer arb. to Uribe. I really want that comp. pick.
-
NO! God no... he's gonna be looking for a big payday, and while he stayed healthy last year, that's not gonna last. He's gonna get injured again, guaranteed. And I'd prefer not to see us overpay for another reliever.

I don't know if it's been posted already, but here's a scouting report on Marquez... I think he has a chance to be a decent starter in the league, if that scouting report is indeed accurate. http://mariners.scout.com/a.z?s=318&p=2&c=347065
