  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) I'd love to snag Mike Pelfrey! No, you wouldn't. He only has one pitch and that's his sinker. Granted it is a very good sinker, it won't mean much if he has no other pitch to keep hitters off balance.
  2. none of us have actually really seen Viciedo play, so I think it's pretty crazy to say already whether that he would or wouldn't play.
  3. He wasn't beaned, he was hit in the face by a line drive. If it wasn't for that line drive, Herb would have easily been in the HOF with the kind of stuff he had. He was arguably the best pitcher at his time before getting hit. RIP.
  4. QUOTE (Cubano @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) I heard or read than one before. President Carter and presidente Clinton tried to have normal relations but the cuban taliban always find a way to do something to prevent a good relationship. He dos not want a good relation because he coulod not blame anybody for his own crap. Now, he blames USA for everything. Actualy, this is a norm around the world. I said: Let the world kill each other and when somebody cry for help or do something USA do nothing. If USA does something we are bad. If USA does nothing, USA is bad. Hell with Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Asia and anybody inside or outside The Milky Way. Drill, Baby, Drill! Watch out for inflation down the road. We do not drill and at the same time we are pumping billions $$$$ into the system. Obama 4 and out! I know I may catch hell from some of you Chicagoans and Sox fans, but that is OK. You are a great great man... This post is better suited for the philibuster section where we talk politics. I completely agree with your post.
  5. I'd definitely would do Fields, decent prospect, and AAAA pitcher for Beltre deal. Fields and Poreda though, no way.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) I'm not sure if it's a good thing that Alexei is lifting weights...maybe it's part of his normal routine. I just think with players like Ramirez and Soriano, they get so much of their power from their wrists, forehands and the bat speed/whip. I just hope it doesn't affect his swing...not worried about him becoming the next Gabe Kapler or Juan Gonzalez though. Roberto Clemente gained his strength when he was growing up by squeezing racquetballs over and over again with his hands. All players need to spend time in the weight room and getting better physically. However, with Ramirez, you don't want him to bulk up and pull a Ruben Sierra on us. You can never add too much strength to your wrist and forearms. Like Roberto Clemente, Ted Williams would take a tennis ball or some rubber ball and squeeze it all day.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) If R1 was any indication, it will be the greatest game ever. Too bad my PS3 is still broke after all these months. Basically, both gamespot and ign both said it was better than R1, and the multiplayer is a whole lot funner.
  8. anyone get Resistance 2? The reviews are great, but sadly, I have no money.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) It is still very early, but I'm starting to think he'll be penciled in as the opening day starter a season from now. Possibly at either 2B or 3B, depending on how Getz/Nix and Fields do.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 02:14 AM) Why would you stay away from Lyon? Personally...I think he needs a change of scenery from AZ. But he could be a pretty valuable guy for the pen IMO. He doesn't have anything in terms of stuff. He can eat innings though, which is good. If he'd sign on the cheap, he might be worth it. Maybe we could get lucky and have him somehow baffle hitters in the AL for a little while.
  11. QUOTE (beck72 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) I would do the Jenks + Vazquez for Beltran and cash deal. You then place Beltran in the leadoff spot. Getz/ Nix could then hit #2. The sox could then move Swisher for pitching. No, you don't put Beltran in the leadoff spot. You need to take advantage of his run producing ability and put him somewhere in the middle of the lineup. I'd personally bat him cleanup behind Quentin.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 02:33 AM) I do agree with you on this one, fiery conjecture is much more valuable than an opinion based in statistics and reason. I like your sig.... It shows off Beckham's wrist and forearms.
  13. QUOTE (TCQ @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) I dont want anything to do with ludwick. He has regression written all over him especially coming into the american league. THat is not the only thing against him though in my book. Agreed on Ludwick... I'd also avoid Ankiel. I'd also stay away from Lloyn. I'm still trying to figure out how he ever had an ERA under 4. And why would we want Crisp still? I'd much prefer getting Taveras for cheaper. Both are .280 hitters with a .330 OBP and play pretty good D. The difference is that Crisp has more power, but Tavares is the better base stealer. I wouldn't mind Cruz though. Is he a type A or B free agent?
  14. I think Cuban league is better than what people give it credit for. I'd also say AA is better than AAA as the talent level in AA is greater. In AAA you have a combination of top prospects getting extra seasoning, career minor leaguers, failed prospects, etc. However, AA is mainly prospects, and that is sometimes the last stop for top prospects before they hit the bigs. Eh, maybe AA is not better than AAA, but it's close IMO.
  15. Expecting him to start this year is a bit crazy, but I don't think it would be crazy to think he could start in the following year.
  16. I think we'd need something in addition to Beltran if we are giving up both Jenks and Vazquez.
  17. Am I the only one who really wants Willy Aybar?
  18. I would very much like to see this done. I am hoping someone can find some scouting reports or videos of him. Where's cubano (that's his name, right?) when we need him?
  19. I have virtually no problem with trading Jenks, as long as it is for maximum value. I for one believe that Jenks is going to regress, and that a serious injury is possibly in the not to distant future for him. I don't know what we could get from the Mets though. I'd like Beltran, but how realistic is that?
  20. I'm just hoping Jerry Owens is not with this team in any capacity come April. I'd rather have Taveras as he is 10x better defensively, and is a more effective base stealer.
  21. I guess they have no plans on bringing back Burrell... Besides Victorino, who they won't trade, and the other untouchables, they don't have much that I'd want.
  22. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Not sure how holding your hands high and forward helps a guy get his bat through the zone faster. Seems like an approach that would make it very difficult to have a compact swing. And you like upper-cut swings as a batting style eh? It would be interesting to see how many batting coaches in baseball today advocate that approach. Wait, what exactly is Cole doing with his top hand? From what I picked up in the post, it sounded like Cole was really turning his top hand over during his swing. Is he doing something different? Also, I completely advocate upper-cut swings. I'm not saying go crazy with it, but a slight upper-cut could put your bat and the ball on the same level. The only batting coach anyone needs is Ted Williams.
  23. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 10:54 AM) PA actually brought this point up in another thread. He said that his grandmother and her sister would really benefit from having some sort of legal union between them. The truth is, I think we need to get away from this idea of government sanctioned "marriage" as we would think about religious "marriage." The government really has no right to say what legal aged consenting adults you may enter into a contract with. So, by your point of view, would it be okay for a brother and sister to have children, even though their kids would very much likely be deformed?
  24. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) Oh Please, When will people like you stop making predictions as if you know everything? It doesn't take a baseball expert to see that Richard quite simply does not have the stuff to make it as more then a very mediocre-bad starting pitcher.
