I don't think anyone cares that he had a gun (or rather owned a gun)... I think people do care however that this guy hates America, supports people who have/want to do very bad things to this country, was walking around a park with a loaded and very deadly assault rifle, and on top of it all resisted arrest. I love it how people defend this piece of crap human being, saying he has all the rights to run around with a loaded AK-47, while supporting terrorist organizations.

My ideal (and somewhat realistic, IMO) situation would be for the Sox to acquire Figgins (not quite sure for what yet though), and make him the leadoff hitter. I'd have a platoon of Fields and Getz, so when Getz plays, Figgins would be at 3B, and when Fields plays, Figgins at 2B. I'd also have Figgins periodically play CF, giving one of either Swisher or Konerko (shift Swisher to 1B) a day off. Lineup: 1. Figgins, 2B/3B 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Quentin, LF 4. Thome, DH 5. Dye, RF 6. Konerko, 1B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Swisher, CF 9. Fields/Getz, 3B/2B I'd put Thome in front of Dye to spread out the righties a bit more, and to provide some more OBP in front of Dye and Konerko (assuming PK comes back to life and is not just fooling us right now). Thoughts on this lineup?

Broadway, only because I don't think Poreda is ready. I'd rather see Poreda in a bullpen type role and possibly take Ramirez's spot in the pen.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) I think Jeter deserved it in 2006. Morneau had Castillo with a .358 OBP, Punto with a .352 OBP, Mauer with a .429 OBP, and Cuddyer with a .362 OBP. Anyone could get RBI's with that on base percentage in front of you. While I agree he didn't deserve the MVP, I don't think we should fault the guy for having guys who can get on base in front of him.

Kansas City might be pretty dangerous in a few years...

I remember reading something where Moustakas will likely have to be moved from SS. -

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) I want Casey Blake. He can hit well in the clutch, plays very good D and seems like a good clubhouse guy. I would rather no see Fields and his shotty D and I think he has been messed up mentally since last year (not sure how but I think it has happened). If the Sox are too be consistent next season offensively, we can't have .220 hitters in the lineup. As long as we have a solid offense around him, we can handle developing him, and he would provide a lot more power then your usual .220 hitter. I believe Fields can be a guy who hits .250-.260, with 30+ homers year in and year out. And the only way he will ever get there is by actually getting a chance to face ML pitching every day.

I personally wouldn't mind taking a chance on McPherson. Perhaps have him and Fields in a platoon at 3rd?

I'm glad the team took their stupid pills today... Seriously, 0-2 to Cust, and you throw a cookie fastball over the meat of the plate about belly-button height? WTF were you thinking Dotel?

QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) When we traded Mr. Change-up for Koch I thought wow we got a hard throwing stud reliever. Man, was I soo wrong Koch was a stud, but Beane screwed us once again on that one, as it turned out Koch had some strange illness which pretty much ruined his ML career. I wouldn't say that was a bad trade by us, but rather a screw job by Beane. Besides, Foulke was overrated, IMO, and we did get Cotts out of the deal, and he was a key part of the 05 pen, so it's all cool.

MLB replay could be in place by end of August

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) Sweeney looks like he could have been our CF'er for a season or two, but when he moved to the corner, he becomes a soft hitting corner OF'er which usually means he's on the bench. I am still a believer in that Sweeney will develop his power. Everyone knows he has it, he just doesn't seem to want to use it, yet. Also, I hate the arguement that if you play a certain position you must hit for power.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) You can cut your boner for Sweeney off any day now and to answer your question, the Sox would look a hell of a lot better at this moment in time with Gio Gonzalez in the rotation rather than Lance Broadway (although I think Gio would get lit the f*** up in the Cell, he is a better option than Broadway). However, the Sox would be in 2nd place by about 5-6 games if they had Sweeney in CF all season rather than Nick Swisher, and the clubhouse wouldn't be nearly as entertaining. Furthermore, the Sox have Swisher nearly as long as the A's have Sweeney, and Swisher's a superior player to Sweeney, and KW has been one of the best GMs in baseball at finding starting pitchers who teams have either thrown to the way side or undervalue and has turned them into good starting pitchers (like 4 of the 5 starters in the White Sox rotation at the beginning of the year). I'm not worried about KW trying to find another starter in the least. So, in my right mind as I'm completely sober and just getting ready for work, would gladly take Swisher and Broadway, and I have every reason in the world to justify such a decision. Did you not see where I said "right now." Anyone can make the long term arguement. But right now, Gio would look damn good, due to the fact any blind person can see that he is the better pitcher then Broadway (even though he did pitch decent today). And with Paulie finally hitting again and Griffey in CF, Swisher is more of a side option right now. Also, to say Swisher is a superior player then Sweeney is just plain ubsurd. You can make the arguement, but to state it as fact is crazy. You have a guy who has always been a decent but not great hitter (although he does walk a lot which makes him a god to some people) vs. a guy who has been hovering around .300 his rookie season and playing much better D with a lot of offensive potential. And the "clubhouse" stuff is so very overrated. When he was on the A's being a "super grinder" and great clubhouse guy, that never won them a World Series title, let alone an American League Champion title. And if we had Sweeney in CF over Swisher all season, I have a hard time seeing how it would have made us worse off. Unless ofcourse you believe Swisher's pressence turned what look to be a very mediocre staff into an above average one. And I love how you say I can cut off my boner for Sweeney anytime, when you are down on all fours for Swisher. It's no secret that I have always been a big Sweeney fan, but right now Gio is the guy we miss most from this deal as he would be a godsend right now.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Richard isnt better than Broadway up here, sorry. Thornton must be hurt. Dont we have better relievers down there than Richard? Why call up a starter who doesn't pitch in relief when we need a reliever. I think saying Richard is his replacement is premature, unless Thornton (or maybe Ramirez???) is hurt and they want another lefty. Could we see the return of Mac?

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) He gets smacked around the entire year in the minors, gets called-up and gets it done in his first ML start this year. I don't understand why he was called up in the first place with the way he was throwing this year, but I'm happy he pitched well. It's a bid odd isn't it? Can't even throw well in AAA and comes up and tosses the ball pretty well. I know it was only one start, but still. I think a big reason for that might be that the org. has him working on something specific in the minors. Either working on a certain pitch and using it for the majority of the game or perhaps working a certain spot of the plate. I find it tough to believe he can dominate for the first two months and then be dog s***.
-
Oh no, not Richard again... This guy has nothing except that he is a lefty who works fast with a bit of a hitch in his delivery. Why send Broadway down after he gives you a decent (but not great) start, better then anything Richard has shown this season?

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) Not a real surprise. Good to see the Sox locked it down. Aside from Poreda and Allen, there wasn't a whole lot to check in on every day. Becks and Danks will be fun to monitor. We'll have to wait until next year though... I'd be surprised if they got 10 games in, if any, before rookie ball is over.

I think I just puked a little in my mouth after thinking of having Uribe for two more years at 5 million per year. It might sound crazy, but utility infielders are a dime a dozen. Sure, some might not be as good defensively or as fat as Juan, but a lot can at least match him in hitting and cost way less.

Would anyone else love a platoon of Getz and Grudz at 2B next year? -

I don't think there is anyone in their right mind that would choose Swisher and Broadway over Sweeney and Gio right now. Gio would look awfully good filling in as the 5th starter for Contreras...
