  1. McLouth wasn't the greatest player, but he was the Pirates best player, and they traded him for practically nothing. And now their replacing him with a rookie who has a career .285 BA in the minors and doesn't hit for much power, and will likely have a bad K:BB ratio in the majors. The Pirates are still a joke of an organization.
  2. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) Join a real conference. We got some tough teams in our conference. JCA, Carmel Mundaline, Marion (outside of last year) is usually tough, Naz is alright (I still don't know how we lost to them though), St. Viator and St. Pats are decent some years, and plus, we have to compete in 8A for State. So it's no cake walk by any means, but yeah, not on the same level as the CCL.
  3. If the inverted W is the reason for so many injuries, why aren't more and more pitchers who use the inverted W getting injured? Why aren't pitching coaches trying to change Prior's mechanics? The inverted W is what a lot of pitchers do, and in fact, players are usually taught to throw like that early on. I'm not buying that it was mechanics that caused his injuries. I firmly believe it has been a combination of steroids and getting off the juice (this would explain the loss in body mass and the random freak injuries) and that his arm wasn't destined to pitch a long time (this would explain why he can't throw more than 5 pitches now without blowing out his arm).
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) Not at all impressed with the haul the Pirates got. Great move by the Braves and I do wonder quietly what the Sox were thinking? I'd have spun Poreda and he'd have been a better prospect than any of the one guys the Braves dealt. Morton isn't that impressive, IIRC, the Sox had a shot at him and opted for some other guys in the Javy trade. I think we are probably saving Poreda for a trade involving a pitcher. I'd love to have McLouth though. He'd add another lefty bat with some pop that this lineup needs in the future.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 01:22 AM) Marist kid? Yes... I'm sure it wasn't tough to find out, just 1 google search would give you your answer. Oh, you're from Palos Heights, so you should know all about the awesomeness of the Marist Football Program.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) Yet you don't talk to the guy that posts here that works for a freakin Division 1 program in recruiting.... You do? For Iowa?
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:42 PM) Fixed. For now on, I'll only accept Baseball/Football. I can't and shouldn't limit myself to just 1.
  8. Once players get off the juice, they usually become less durable and have a lot more freak injuries. So for players in the 90's, they never got off the juice.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:38 PM) Football? You're a lineman right? I seem to remember you posting a video or something in the past. This is as good of a D2 program as you'll find. Yeah, football. I posted my HS highlight tape on talkbears.com. In that highlight tape, you'll see a lot of Seiler. If I do wind up at GVSU, I'll make sure to find you and share my extreme baseball knowledge, that you love so much, with you.
  10. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) If thats the case do you move lexi back to 2b and put slayer at ss or vice versa. Alexies arm at second is a big boost for turnin that dp With Alexei's defensive potential at SS, you keep him there. He's made som magnificant plays this year, and hopefully he'll only improve. From what I've read, Gordo has a pretty strong arm.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) Our #1 RB is a versatile runner. I'd compare him to a Thomas Jones. Not a tank, but not a speedster either. I'm sure Seiler will be utilized in the offense somehow if he's as slick as you say. We run lot's of stretch plays with lineman pulling, so it may suit him. If I don't get the D-I scholarship I'm hoping for (going to JuCo next year), you could very well see me going to GVSU in a year or two.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:30 PM) You know how I feel about Getz. Like the kid, he's a ballplayer, grinder, etc.. but unless Alexei moves to CF or gets traded (which I don't see neither happening as of yet or for the forseeable future) you put the most talented/upside man at 2B but is Gordo miles away. (Getz has very limited tools, or upside but is a very solid ballplayer) Nix is not the future (hellova glove, might learn with the stick, does have upside, but probably won't find it here) If Fields does figure it out then it's a very nice problem to have. I think Getz will be traded. I love him, wish him the best, but there's no real spot for him here, if we decide to MI will be Alexei and Slayer. Getz can only really play 2B as his arm isn't good enough for SS, 3B, or the OF. Nix fits the backup infielder much better. A stud at 2B, and he could become pretty damn good at SS or 3B as well with more practice in spring training.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) Wait for BearSox's comment about Michael Young. Hey, that's a damn good comparison when I am making the point you put the best team out on the field, regardless of position.
  14. In all fairness, after BA's first two AB's today, I can't blame Ozzie for putting Wise in.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) Ya, I go to GVSU. I've heard about Seiler. He'll have a very hard time getting playing time here though. Our returning RB is a stud going into his junior season and we also got a legit freshman coming in who will likely be backing him up. I'll definitely keep an eye out for Seiler though. They have him listed as a RB. He'll probably red-shirt this year. Yeah, he'll likely redshirt and the earliest he'll make an impact in the run game is his sophomore season, but he could contribute in the return game and on special teams. He's a football player, tough as nails (although I have some funny stories about him during games). If the other RB you're talking about is a power runner, that'll be perfect for you guys, cause Seiler's knickname is "Slick" for a reason.
  16. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) I agree, but my predictions never come through. Those lineups call for a pretty quiet offseason, I bet Kenny will be active. Signing Holliday wouldn't be a quiet offseason. My 2010 lineup: 1. Figgins, 3B 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Quentin, RF 4. Holliday, LF 5. Thome, DH 6. Konerko, 1B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Beckham, 2B 9. Danks, CF Let the young guys develop low in the order first.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) If that's true (3,000 SS agents), then someone somewhere is trying to do something... I'll leave that nebulous and right there. Frankly, BearSox, if it's needed, it shouldn't be questioned. Period. I highly doubt it's needed. I think its just because of how big of an ego Barry has.
  18. Hey SoxFan1, you go to GVSU? If you're gonna be there for the next couple of years, watch out for a RB/WR/KR/PR on the football team, Billy Seiler. Not the biggest guy, but he's fast as hell, extremely strong for his size, and no one works harder than him. He'll make an impact for the Lakers.
  19. There's no way KW and Ozzie go into next year with no lefty bat for the middle of the lineup. Also, if we do sign Holliday, we'd probably prefer to save the 6 million or so and go with Thome instead. But it's such a tough decision, because Dye has been so good for us.
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) Hahn can deal with Boras. Thats how they did it for the last few years with Crede. Agreed. I'm sick and tired of seeing players and thinking "Hey, they might be a good fit" only to see that they are Boras clients. I can understand not drafting Boras guys in the 1st or signing the big time Boras FA's that want to make a new record for a contract, but the other guys, there's no reason why we shouldn't just send Hahn out to do the negotiating.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) Dewayne Wise is a better defensive CFer than Nate McClouth (atleast in regards to what he did last year). Take that into consideration. McLouth is alright out there, and that's good enough considering his bat.
  22. I don't care anymore... I really want him in LF now.
  23. after watching our CF play tonight, I'm saddened that we didn't go after him.
  24. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) It didn't bother me as much, I like Aaron Poreda and all of you guys will too. I have a feeling Poreda will never pitch one pitch with the White Sox.
  25. Nice, Gordon mostly at 3B and getting some time in the middle infield with Fields backing up the corners. I think we'll see Fields traded very soon though. Hopefully we can get something from a NL team for Betemit. He's surely gonna garner some interest from the NL.
