  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) It was a broken bat, but far from a bloop. Keep talking s*** about him. Keep saying he's not a baseball player. It seems to be working the past 2 days. I really want him to succeed, I have always been a Fields fan, dating all the way to when I first came and even before that. But this year he hasn't shown me anything to have any faith in him doing anything at the MLB level.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) Corky has hit better than he has in 6 years. I really don't know what everyone expects. I'd much prefer having Lucy up. Neither will hit, but at least Lucy will play better D and actually be in shape. I really don't see any difference between Hall and Miller, except that Miller has a better arm.
  3. I was just waiting for a pitcher to finally throw a breaking ball to Pods when he did that step up thing.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Awful...I hate that we switched up the lineup after yesterday's explosion. We have Thursday off. What type of baseball fan are you? You haven't realized that lefty batters can't hit lefty pitchers?
  5. I missed Fields' single. Was it a broken bat, hang with'em for the pitcher, or was it an actual ball hit with some authority by Fields?
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) Cause he's not a good hitter? From what he's shown this year, he's been giving great AB's and have been hitting a lot of balls hard. It's a shame because he's had 36 sporadic AB's that have resulted in only 7 hits has him labeled as a bad hitter right now. Give him some time.
  7. Pods still has a weak arm, but you can tell he's been working on it since we got rid of him after 07. His throws have been on a line this year, with some accuracy.
  8. 3 assists by Pods this year???? Fields almost blew it with a terrible tag.
  9. Smoak, the guy I really liked a lot last year, has been mashing this year. .324 BA, 6 HR, 25 RBI, 8 2B, 31 BB, 29 K, .443 OBP, .500 SLG, .943 OPS. Considering that Blalock is a FA after the year and not that good anymore, and Chris Davis simply isn't good, we could see Smoak up later this year with a good shot at starting at 1B for the Rangers next year. Also, Julio Borbon has been on the fast track to the majors. The Rangers have a really nice looking offense setting up for next year and the future. And, it's not like their offense is all that bad now.
  10. What Reddy said. Take as long as possible to heal. Having a healthy Q for the future is the most important thing for this club.
  11. When was the last time a pitcher threw Pods a breaking pitch? I can't recall.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) With all due respect, so what? He hit a ball really hard. In Chicago it would have been a homer. You have to start somewhere, and to have Fields squaring up and hitting the ball hard is a good thing for him and team, which is the most important thing. I know you have a thing against Fields, but the team really has no REAL substitute for him until Dayan Viciedo is ready, which could be next year. I don't want to hear Beckham, because the team themselves have said he isn't ready, nor Nix, because he is hitting worse than Josh. B freaking S. Anyone with any baseball knowledge at all will tell you that Nix has looked about 100x better than Fields has at bat. Nix has had what, not even 40 AB's? And he already has the same amount of homers as Fields. Nix has had sparatic AB's, and still looks a whole ton better than Fields. He still K'd 3 times yesterday and had another weak AB. So what, he ran into a couple. Talk to me when he shows any resemblance of a baseball player and I might reconsider my opinion of him.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2009 -> 08:15 AM) Those two middle inning AB swings by Josh last night were as hard as he has hit balls all year, especially the double off of the RC field wall. Hopefully the RBI single on Sunday loosened him up a bit. His first hit was the hardest hit ball he hit for a while. He was looking fastball, got it, and actually hit it. That second hit though, that's a pitch Fields has always handled. Speier really sucks, he has nothing. I don't remember him being so bad in Toronto.
  14. Rockin Robin was there tonight as well! I'd love to get him on our coaching staff one day.
  15. QUOTE (onedude @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) wow...abreu with no homers on the season...wtf If he played for the Yankees still, he'd have double digits by now.
  16. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) Tons of players struggle in cold weather. Alexei doesn't need help adjusting to the cold weather; he needs help staying confident and putting his struggles behind him. He needs to stop getting pull and home run happy. The first month or so, all he tried to do was pull the ball 20 rows deep into the left field bleachers. That's never good for any hitter.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) He just sucks in Anaheim. Except when its October during the ALCS.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) I love how this is exactly what half the board suggested even before the season started. I've been saying it for a long ass time. Even when he is going bad, he still won't K a lot, will put the ball in play, and has great speed to put pressure on the D.
  19. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) It's sure not as high as if he were at short Who gives a s***? Are we trying to trade Beckham? You do what's best for the team, and right now best case scenario is to have Alexei play SS and Beckham at 2B or 3B.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) I don't think being demoted has ever helped anybody's confidence. If you are too fragile being able to handle getting demoted because you suck and you need to get better, you shouldn't be anywhere near a MLB team. However, he did contemplate retirement at the age of 24.
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) I've mentioned this before, I would hate to see Beckham move to third. He should be playing short, second at the very least. I would love to see him at short and Alexei in center but I don't think that will happen. Right now, Alexei offers the most complete package at SS, if he can get his act together. Personally, I don't care where Beckham plays as long as he provides the offensive production we are expecting from him. All that stuff about him play 3B would diminish his value is BS. If you can hit you can hit. Michael Young provided great offensive production from the SS spot. Now that he plays 3B, do you think his value just plummeted and he doesn't have as much value anymore? Give me a break.
  22. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) Yea I think the Navy Blue hats with stars and stripes logos they had last year were better than these red ones. That may have been the 4th of July though. I'd prefer if they kept the hats as the same color they usually are, but just change the logo on the front and back to the red, white, and blue.
  23. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t=#entry1568014 I remembered this because this was the first negative thing I'd ever read about Evan Longoria. You're a great poster, but none of us need to be saying such a talented player is not going to pan out after such a small sample size in one season. Fields showed in 2007 some of the things he is capable of, and he lost all year last year due to lingering injuries. He had an excellent ST and now that he's healthy he has been a lot better in the field than he'd shown coming into this season. Fields deserves a lengthy leash because it could end up paying off big. Plus Viciedo isn't ready, and apparently Beckham isn't a 3B. Retherford doesn't need to be rushed either. I made that prediction before he ever came to the majors. I only saw Longoria on a few occasions, and I wasn't a huge fan of his approach, and he had a minor flaw in his swing. However, the Longoria I saw last year and already this year is nothing like the Longoria I saw in 06 and 07. I love his new approach up there and he's not nearly as open as he was before, and he's fixed the slight flaw in his swing. It was a crazy guess over a year ago before Longo was playing in the MLB. Completely different than this situation. However, nice find though. I'm sorry, but Fields hasn't shown me anything to believe he has the ability to make the adjustments needed. No question he's got the talent. I just don't think he's got the baseball know how to use that talent.
  24. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Why are people talking about shutting down Q for the season before he's even had a DL stint?! He hasn't seemed healthy since the first two weeks of the season, and with this year going down the drain, it might be wise to just let him take as long as possible to get to 100%. No need to bring him back when he is 95% only to have him re-injury himself. Q's future to this team is much important to risk on this season.
  25. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) Unfortunately for us, he'll be our starting third baseman for at least the next 2 months. I don't know about that. With the way Beckham has been raking lately, we could see him up here. Today, 3-4 with 5 RBI. He's got his BA over .300 now. Plus, all his hits were spread out. His single was up the middle, his homer was to right-center, and his double was to left-center. I love to see that. Hopefully that means he's going with the pitches and not trying to pull everything.
