Beat the no. 5 ranked overall player in MLB the Show today. The guy sucked. Probably just did nothing but play crappy opponents and racked up W's.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 23, 2009 -> 08:47 PM) I think the Padres just started licking their chops when they saw what Clayton did tonight. The Pirates is what the Padres usually face in the NL anyhow. I got no problem bashing the NL, but the Pirates showed that they are clearly one of the worst teams in baseball. A lot of teams in the NL are mediocre, but the Pirates are far worse than mediocre.
-
I'm glad we won, but lets not get too ahead of ourselves. It is the pirates and they look absolutely pitiful. They have two decent looking hitters in Nate McClouth and Andy LaRoche. Morgan doesn't look to bad either. But the rest of the hitters look awful. Plus, the offense isn't quite there. A total of 6 runs vs. 2 average pitchers. However, hopefully the W's lead to some momentum for us.

Swisher is currently PITCHING for the Yanks

Extremely streaky and afraid to swing the bat. That is a bad combo. -
Contreras got rocked. 5.2 IP, 8 H, 2 BB, 8 K, 7 R, 5 ER I think it's about time we try and see what he can do in a relief role.
-
One of Hudson's worse outings this year. 5 IP, 6 H, 5 BB, 4 K, 3 R, 3 ER Impressive that he only gave up 3 runs after allowing 11 base runners in 5 innings. Looks like he didn't have his command today.

Even though I hate him... I still want him!
-
I don't want Mitchell, so I'd be happy if the Twins take him. I'm sick and tired of athletes. I want baseball players.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 23, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) What is your love affair for Andy Phillips. He sucks. The only thing you accomplish by bringing him up, is making your problem at 3rd base a few years older. If we replace Fields with Beckham, I'm fine with that, but I don't see it happening until July at the earliest. With Phillips, he is a decent bench player who can actually play the game of baseball. Josh is completely clueless. It's embarrassing to watch him play. Even if Phillips isn't good, at least he is versatile.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) Nix has played the last 3 in a row and is 0 fer. He's played the last 4 out of 5 and is 1 for 11. He was 2-13 when he played 4 games in a row a week or so ago. The more he plays the worse he does . Let him actually play for a full week. He's shown more baseball know how than half the team so far.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) How about a Penguin with bloodlust and a license to kill? That's just badass. Also, f*** YOU JAKE PEAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So far, 6 IP, 2 H, 10 K, and no R. You're a great pitcher, I don't know why you're such a b**** about coming to the AL. San Diego don't want you no more Jake, the South Side wanted you. Enjoy pitching for either a team with no for see able future or the biggest chokers in all of sports.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:11 PM) He wasn't moving very well tonight either. He did look a little better running on the DP ball, but the first couple of AB, it appeared he wouldn't be able to play LF for quite a long time. As far as Nix, I understand the love he's getting because the others have been brutal, but as you said if he were on any other major league team, he'd be hitting 8th or 9th or in AAA. If the Sox had to send him through waivers, I don't think they would have any problem getting him through. Colorado got him through twice last year. With the way he's been swinging the bat, it really does make a lot of sense to put him on the 15 and wait until he is complete 100% to activate him again.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) Yeah, he's had good ABs compared to some of the rest of the jabronis, but there's no way he should be batting 2nd. It's getting scary with Quentin. He's just rolling over everything. Nix should see the field over Fields, if we are serious about at least be competitive. You could flip flop him and Ramirez in the order, but Nix has been making the pitcher work and usually puts the ball in play. If we gave him some consistent playing time, instead of this start one game, sit the next 2-3 crap, I'm positive we'd see a rise in average. I'm not sold on us calling up Beckham anytime soon, but if we do, 3B is his.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) No way do we give Andy Phillips playing time over Josh Fields. Not only it is implausible, but it's the wrong thing to do. We need him to work his crap out, and benching him for a 38 year old journeyman AAAA player isn't going to help. First off, he's 32 years old and would likely be a breath of fresh air compared to Fields. Second, Josh Fields sucks ass and is an embarrassment to have on this team. If you haven't realized it by now, Josh Fields is not a baseball player. Having him set the strikeout record isn't doing anything to help Fields.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) Isn't Nix below .200 now? Be careful what you wish for, he really can't hit either. He's been putting together good AB's and been hitting the ball well. Soon, those line drives he's been hitting at defenders will start to go where no defenders are at. Plus, he hasn't even had 40 AB's yet. Little too early to look at stats for him, especially batting average.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) Floyd was outstanding. I have no idea why Pittsburgh didn't play the infield in with Pods up when they scored the first run. He rarely hits the ball very hard and doesn't drive in runs. We take that one. Ramirez looked good too. The guy across the aisle scream at Josh Fields after he struck out and told him he sucked. His girlfriend scolded him. His response? "He does suck." Ramirez likely scores on that weakly hit grounder anyway.

I know we won, but a couple moves I'd like to see made. Option Fields to Charlotte, call up Andy Phillips. Trade Wilson Betemit to a national league team for any lefty relief pitcher. Have that lefty relief pitcher take Gobble's spot. I don't care what we do with Gobble, just get rid of him. Call up Kroeger. Make Nix the starter at 3B with him playing 2B vs. lefties with Phillips at 3B. Lineup: (vs R) 1. Podsednik, CF 2. Nix, 3B 3. Dye, RF (should be Thome, followed by Konerko, but Ozzie would never do something so logical like that) 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Quentin, LF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Ramirez, SS 9. Getz, 2B (vs. L) 1. Nix, 2B 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Dye, RF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Quentin, LF 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Phillips, 3B 9. Anderson, CF

Puh-lease. How can animals that are always wearing tuxedos have anything scary about them?
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) At least Beckham can give this offense a jolt. I think we should just promote him. He also doesn't seem to have the mentality to get down on himself if he initially struggles. I've always thought that the confidence thing was always blown out of proportion. Unless you're a mental midget, you know you'll have your struggles. The thing you gotta worry about is if the player presses too much and puts too much pressure on themselves.
-
Barons swept the double header, winning 6-1 in the second game. Danks with an all around good day, collecting 5 hits in 8 AB's. In the 2nd game, he want 3-4 with an RBI. Beckham went 1-4 with a K though. Shelby and Cook homored each.
-
Side note: Charlotte today was playing the Pirates AAA affiliate. That's a nice little coinkydink.
-
Would have liked to see the CG, but we got the W.
-
Screw you Jake Peavy. Seeing him just dominate the Cubs infuriates me more.
-
Dear Kenny Williams... Please demote Josh Fields and call up Andy Phillips. It's not even a matter of winning, just stop the embarrassment of having Fields out there everyday.
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 22, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) I still think we should give Fields some more time. So he can continue to show off to MLB teams how truly bad he is? Watch him play. You can tell he isn't a baseball player.
