  1. What about JD? He's destined for 1B/DH anyway. Train him at 1B and have him play there while Delgado is injured, and when Delgado comes back, you put Dye in LF or RF, depending on which of Murphy or Church is doing worse.
  2. If only car jumping gave you a boost in batting average...
  3. Okay, I got three guys done for now. I might add one or two more tonight, as well as probably a couple more tomorrow.
  4. Diego Seastrunk, C, Rice - 5'11" 180 lbs. (Bats S | Throws R) Scouting Report Strengths: Is a true baseball player and puts the team ahead of him. Has a great amount of baseball know-how. Volunteered to move from 3B to C, and has shown very good raw ability behind the plate with a really strong arm. However, his ability to play 3B gives him added versatility. Has a very good approach from both sides of plate, and knows how to hit. Has gap to gap power and is a line drive hitter who uses the whole field. Has decent speed for a catcher. Negatives: Can he stick behind the plate? So far has had a very mediocre Junior campaign offensively. Puts the team ahead of himself and has just a great feel for the game. Has a very good approach at the plate as well, as some raw ability behind the plate. Might be a bit of a project, but a lot of upside with him. Also, he has a bit of a short, stocky frame you would expect out of a catcher. I'd be tempted to take him at 71, but there isn't much buzz about him, so if we could get him in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th, I'd be ecstatic. Worst case scenario, IMO, is a decent hitting backup C/3B.
  5. Trevor Coleman, C, Missouri - 6'1" 211 lbs. (Bats S | Throws R) Scouting Report Strengths: Good catch and throw skills, has a good arm, and a solid defender behind the plate. Is a patient hitter and can take a walk. Is also a switch hitter. Negatives: The bat is a big question mark. He has had only decent numbers offensively his previous 2 years, and this year, he's leaving a lot to be desired. Doesn't hit for much power, and has a low average. He seems to have a tendency to K too much at times as well. Plus, it looks like his struggles offensively have effected him defensively, as this year, he has poor defensive numbers. If we don't go catcher early, I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him in round 5 or 6. Best case scenario he offers a solid, switch hitting back up/situational player from behind the plate. He might decide to stay at Mizzou for another year to try and get his value back up though.
  6. I think I'm officially in the boat for A.J. Pollock at pick no. 23.
  7. He's got a lot of helium right now, and a lot of places I've seen have him going in the top 15.
  8. He got rocked against Nebraska over the weekend, and his stock has been falling steadily. Right now I have him projected anywhere from 30-70.
  9. Oops, just read he's a Boras client. Might as well scratch him off. One of these days, I'm gonna try and come up with a list of all the top prospects with Boras.
  10. Luke Bailey, C, HS Georgia (Bats R | Throws R) Scouting Report Strengths: 5 Tool Potential. Has good speed for a catcher, has a great arm, real good catch and throw skills, and very solid behind the plate. With the bat, he has very good power and has a natural swing. Negatives: Had/Has to have Tommy John Surgery and won't be ready to make his debut until next year. He can get a bit home run happy at times and lead to holes in his swing. Some question the amount of athletic ability he has. However, because of the need for TJ surgery, he might fall to us somewhere in the 2nd or maybe even later. However, there is still a chance a team that liked him originally will still take him in the 1st. At 38, I'd probably pass, depending on who else is there. However, at 61 or 71, he'd be very tempting. However, if he does fall, you have to worry about him deciding to go to college do to the fact he wasn't a 1st rounder.
  11. Since Pods hasn't been terrible in his second go around with us, I see Pods getting the majority of starts in CF and as leadoff hitter.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 18, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) I'm planning on doing a lot of profiles tomorrow. Here are the guys I will be focusing on: C Luke Bailey, HS Georgia C Austin Maddox, HS Florida C Trevor Coleman, Missouri C Wil Myers, HS North Carolina C Diego Seastrunk, Rice C Max Stassi, HS California C Steve Baron, HS Florida 1B/C Tommy Joseph, HS Arizona 1B Rich Poythress, Georgia 1B Ben Paulsen, Clemson 3B Bobby Borchering, HS Florida 3B Matt Davidson, HS California OF Jason Kipnis, Arizona St. OF Brian Goodwin, HS North Carolina OF Jared Mitchell, LSU OF Kentrail Davis, Tennessee OF/P Slade Heathcott, HS Texas SP Kyle Heckathorn, Kennesaw St. SP Chad Jenkins, Kennesaw St. SP Brad Boxberger, USC SP Zach Wheeler, HS Georgia SP Andy Oliver, Oklahoma St. RP Joe Kelly, UC Riverside RP Jason Stoffel, Arizona Also, someone needs to add Schuster to the links on the 2nd post of the page. Okay, after I get some lunch in me, I'm gonna crack out as many of these as I can. I'm gonna do the bolded ones first.
  13. If anything, a more serious contender for Walker's job would be Chris Chambliss (if you haven't noticed, he's Charlotte's manager).
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ May 19, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Dick Howser was a great hitting coach with the Yankees in the late 70s. Check out his stats: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/howsedi01.shtml Rudy Jaramillo, the hitting coach of the Rangers, never played in the majors. Damn you, beat me by 2 minutes.
  15. Rudy Jaramillo never made the majors...
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 19, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Its down to $399. I dont get it. You are getting by far the most advanced and sophisticated gaming system, blu-ray player capabilities, internet search ability, PS store, music/video/picture storage etc...And, they are finally carrying some good exclusive series as well. Maybe it's the economy or X-Box fanboys refusing to make a switch or the Wii carving out a larger niche than expected, but I bought my PS3 when it was still $599 and I don't regret it for a second. agreed completely. I bought mine after christmas, and everything all together cost me around 1000 bucks (controllers, 2 games HDMI cord, as well as the system and taxes). I could probably get all the same stuff now for around 600 bucks, but I dont regret the extra money spent at all. The PS3 has by far exceeded my expectations.
  17. if the offense fails to show up again, things could get ugly tonight with the fans booing the s*** out of the players... but we seem to play well when Buehrle's in the bump, so there's hope.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 18, 2009 -> 01:58 AM) Great (but kinda sad) story about a pitcher who threw 21 shutout innings in 26 hours to help his team to the NIAA World Series. Over his coaches objections the pitcher, Bryan fuller, went out to pitch knowing that this could be his last chance to ever pitch at a competitive level. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=4171780 The article said he wasn't even a starter as well.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ May 18, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) Getting ugly for Jordan Danks. Last 8 AB's--7 K's. Beckham 0-8 since his return. That's Josh Fields-esque
  20. I'm planning on doing a lot of profiles tomorrow.   21. QUOTE (Cali @ May 18, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) 47 K 5 BB Nice. 47 K's in 35 IP. And a WHIP easily below 1. Oh, and an ERA of 1.70
  22. You're about 900 votes behind the leader... Got some work to do! You got some rough competition!
  23. Hudson's final line: 8 IP - 5 H - 4 R - 2 ER - 0 BB - 8 K - 1 HR Not bad. Got the L though. The 2 other unearned runs that came in were actually a result of a throwing error by Hudson. Surprised they had him go 8 innings.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) Hudson's numbers really remind me of McCarthy, for some reason. Hudson, in my opinion, is a better pitching prospect than Poreda. I've been saying Hudson is the best starting pitching prospect we have for a while. Something about him screams no. 2 or 3 starter to me. I've only seen a little of him, but what I have seen, I really liked.
  25. Through 4, Hudson has 5 K's, 0 BB's. Given up 2 runs, 1 earned, and 3 hits. The 1 ER came on a HR. The unearned run was a result of a passed ball by Adam Ricks. Winston Salem is down 2-0 right now.
