Come on Peavy!!! You and Jay Cutlerz can be bestest friends in Chicago!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) Bet. If he declines, so be it. But big, big ups to Kenny and co for going for it. And please god let this put to rest once and for f***ing all that the White Sox are a cheap organization or that Kenny doesn't care or whatever dumb s*** we've heard around here in the past. Well, I think a big part of the factoring on Kenny's mind is that we will be riding our selves of Contreras, Thome, and possibly Dye's contract next season, freeing up a lot of money.

I'm just so stoked at how much better our rotation will be with Peavy in it. Even if Floyd does turn out to be a 1 year wonder, we still have our top 3 in the rotation set until at least 2011.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) Just woke up 5 minutes ago. I turn to ESPN news and see the Peavy breaking news. I almost croaked. I'm not about to read through 36 pages. Can somebody just answer me is the only obstacle in this trade being completed is Peavy agreeing to it? That is the only obstacle.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Last year, according to BA, he was 88-92, so it's nice to see the improvement in velocity. But still at 92-94, I don't consider him a power pitcher. He has got a lot of Kevin Slowey in him, IMO. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/S/Kevin-Slowey.shtml Similar peripheral numbers. Hudson's K numbers in the minors have been much more impressive.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) I think Hudson could be very good in the future, but he still doesn't have overwhelming stuff to make me think he can be a stud. To me, he is more of the Twins type pitcher who succeeds with command and first-pitch strike and then in the majors does a solid, but not great job. I am all for giving him up, especially if it means we can keep Allen, Flowers, Danks and Beckham. ? From what I've seen and read, he's got a very good fastball that sits in the 92-94 mph range with very good movement, and has a nasty slider as his out pitch. He's a power pitcher, not a finesse pitcher.

QUOTE (daa84 @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) if we don't give up any of our position prospects ....i'll be pretty excited....unless its Poreda, Richard, Hudson and Infante...... Part of me thinks hudson could be in the deal, which is why its PTBNL because he, like beckham was drafted last year and can't be traded until 1 year after the draft, correct? Correct.

QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) Anybody think they are waiting for the game to announce that the deal is done? Would add some dramatic flair, not sure how packed the place is going to be for a day game however. Doubt there would be a lot of fans in the first place. Weekday afternoon games usually don't draw well. However, with the Peavy trade and waiting for him to decide, there could be a few more walk ups than usual. However, I wouldn't expect it to be packed.
-
Its looking more and more that he has to move to the pen. Looks like he doesn't have the arm to be able to stay as a starter. Getting him even in the 2nd round at pick 71 would still be nice.
-
As long as Hudson isn't one of the two other pitchers, I'll Jizz in my pants.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) They are nimrods for thinking that would even be considered. Poreda is clearly the centerpiece of the deal for them.
-
QUOTE (daa84 @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) pure speculation here.....but i wouldn't at all be surprised if the two mystery players are a guy who is major league ready but with limited upside (Nix, Getz, Anderson, Lillibridge) and a youngster in the low minors who is very raw with big upside (Infante) I'm guessing we gave San Diego a list of 5-10 players and they get to choose 2 of them. I'm just hoping none of Hudson, Viciedo, Beckham, Flowers, or Danks are on that list.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) *slowly unzips pants* why unzip?
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) I can live with those guys leaving, but I really want to keep Hudson. I agree about Hudson. You'd hate to lose someone like him, even in a trade for Peavy. One guy I forgot about, what about Shelby?
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) Escobar, Morel, Gilmore.... Edit: Actually, I remember reading about Gilmore after the Vazquez trade and he reminded me a lot of Vitters. I forgot about Escobar. He's very toolsy I've heard, and he can stick at SS. Perhaps he is one of the PTBNL.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Seriously, the Padres could be interested in Lillibridge as a final piece of the package (to go along with a big time PTBNL). That'd just be a win-win right there. Gain Peavy and officially never see Lillibridge playing CF and batting 2nd for the Sox ever again?
-
Really sad news. Lets hope there was no foul play.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) Yep, the whole PTBNL scares me. If you think about it, the Padres desperately need a middle infielder. I wouldn't lose a second of sleep if it's JorDanks in the trade, and really wouldn't mind selling high on Flowers. Maybe Getz? But if he was part of it, he probably wouldn't be listed as a PTBNL. Who are some MI prospects we have besides Beckham? Does Retherford count? What about Kuhn? He seems like a very Getz like player from what I've read.
-
I just hope none of the other 2 players are any of Flowers, Hudson, Beckham, or Danks. I could see one of them being either Carter and the other being Allen.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) Can somebody explain to me the love affair with Jordan Danks? I'm not trying to be a smartass here. His college stats certainly weren't mind-blowing. And haven't we learned with guys like Chris Young and Josh Fields that guys who K that much at the minor level are destined to suck at the ML level (and I'm officially off the Chris Young bandwagon. He f***in' blows). Because we want to keep the Danks family happy. We want John here a long time, and we don't want to piss them off. Why do you think Jordan signed with us in the first place?
-
Thanks! Much appreciation!
-
However, if Poythress does rake in the minors, he is someone you could turn around and trade for someone. Similar to what the Brewers did with Laporta, and what I think the Reds are doing with Yonder. However, Yonder and Laporta were a lot better prospects than Poythress.
-
Yeah, I expect at least a couple of guys that were pegged for round 2 going in the middle of round 1, and guys expected to go in the middle of round 1 go round 2.
-
Yep, I've been hearing that as well. But I think if he's still there at 38, you have to put him into consideration.
