Sox @ Angels 5-25-09 - Danks vs. Santana
BearSox replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:18 PM) Fields isn't even a Major Leaguer. I can't believe how bad he looks at the plate. It amazes me how many people here don't realize that Josh simply doesn't have "it." I'm all for letting young players develop and go through the growing pains with them. However, Fields just sucks, and after almost 2 months, it's obvious to me he just isn't gonna hack it. Maybe some other team can get through to him, but I don't see that happening with us. -

I can't help but feel I jinxed Q about my comment the only way BA will get playing time is if Q goes in the DL for an extended period of time. Oh well, hopefully it's nothing too serious. It might not even be a bad thing to shut him down for the rest of the year. Let him get 100% for the winter, and work with him extensively on his swing and mechanics throughout the off period. -

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) Wow... 1/4 of the season is plenty of time to judge a player, especially a player entering his 4th year of MLB experience (granted two of the times were cups of coffee). He hasn't made any positive adjustments, and it's clear he's clueless at bat. The guy is a bust. His success in 07 was seemingly a first time around the league thing. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) I'd love to see Podsednik run up on a veteran pitcher, someone with balls. He'd hit the dirt on the next pitch. I'm confident Pedro Martinez would put one in his ear. It's not a terrible move if you do it once in a while and slap the ball. Pods is now doing it every single swing, and he's trying to drive the ball when he does it. Doesn't make much sense. -

QUOTE (tommy @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) Let me add that we only trade for Figgins if we are still contending. If not, then yes, have Fields play the summer see if he can turn it around, I'm not calling him a bust just yet. Not sure of Figgins' contract status, he would do us great this year tho. He's a FA after this year. The Angels won't trade him because they will likely be back in contention, and we won't trade for him. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Let's say hypothetically that the Sox Sign Figgins...then what do we do with Viciedo (assuming Fields is out of the picture, which is a silly assumption granted). Say then we move Viciedo to OF...we wind up with Anderson and Danks fighting for a spot, and Anderson's about to be an arbitration guy, which means he'll be a bit more expensive than you want to pay for a bench guy...and although we keep benching him, Anderson's playing like a starter right now. If nothing else...signing a guy like Figgins would need to be coupled to another couple of smart moves, because I don't like selling low on Fields and Anderson by letting Anderson walk for nothing and sending Fields to AAA. IMO, best case scenario with Fields is that we send him down to Charlotte for most of this year, he hits (unless AAA pitchers are smart and throw him nothing but fastballs), and when we call him up for the 40 man, he hits a little better. Than, in the offseason, some team trades one of their failed prospects for our failed prospect, a la Matt Thornton for Joe Borchard. As for Anderson, I'm not convinced he's anything more than a 4th OF. However, he should get a lot of playing time this year for at least the next 2 months. Sadly, the only way that'll happen on this team is if either Dye is traded or if Quentin gets shut down for the rest of the season because of his heel, or both. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 25, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) So a guy with a .300 on base percentage who is getting picked off on almost a daily basis along with other base running mistakes is our best option. Really? Have you seen our other options? -

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) Why not give Fields the opportunity to play through the summer and see what happens so we don't end up with another Brian Anderson situation? It's not like we're one or two pieces away. We suck in a sucky division. Let's see what we have and go from there. Beckham homers! Fields sucks. It's been two months, and it's quite evident he'll never make it as a ball player, at least not with us. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) In all seriousness...where would he play? Depends on where Gordon winds up, but I could see him most likely at either 3B or in CF/LF. -

Actually, I'd say Pods has been doing his best job leading off for us since 2005. And as the other poster stated, Pods is sadly the best option we have for a leadoff hitter. I'd be shocked if Chone Figgins isn't wearing a white sox uni next year. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 25, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Poreda's #13 on the Prospect Hot Sheet. Not sure if that's been posted. Also, that Santana trade is looking worse and worse for the Twins...Smith hasn't distinguished himself with his first two big trades. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...009/268168.html Trading Garza and Bartlett for Young was one of the worst moves made by a GM in the past 3 years, IMO.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) Interesting. According to The Sporting News: 31. Chicago Cubs A.J. Pollock, Notre Dame, 2B/OF Versatile athlete continues to lead the Irish. There's a difference between being a baseball player who's a good athlete, and a good athlete who plays baseball.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 25, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Sorry, but this a crazy idea. You trade a HR hiting, RBI producer, high average player that also plays pretty good defense for a mediocre pitcher? No way. Once again we don't value our own players enough What Balta said.

Anyone see that home run by Tex the other day? WTF? There is no way that ball should have even come close to leaving the park, let alone around 10 rows up. That ball has to be juiced up.

Looked like to me Viciedo was a late inning replacement.

I think my major beef is having him bat anywhere higher than 7th. Ideally, he'd be batting 8th. -
Does Peavy end up with White Sox before the trade deadline?

QUOTE (WCSox @ May 24, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) Is it possible that Peavy told Towers that he's not waiving his NTC to go to the Yankees, before he and Cashman could agree to terms? If that were the case, why wouldn't Peavy just say to Towers that he's not willing to waive his NTC to any AL team? -

I highly doubt a trade was completed and we didn't hear about it. Now a days, especially with a team as big as the Yankees, you hear about everything. Plus, is it possible the Yankees wanted to keep their players and bring in Sabathia who they felt was as good, if not better? -
Swisher is currently PITCHING for the Yanks
BearSox replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in The Diamond Club
Okay, how about this, a three way deal: Yankees Get: Betemit, Nunez, Marquez White Sox Get: Sweeney, Gonzalez, De Los Santos, Kanokea Teixeria Athletics Get: Swisher This way, everything goes back to how it's suppossed to be, and everyone's happy (except maybe the A's, however he was really a big time fan favorite over there). -

QUOTE (Brian @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) And when he leaves this team, a lot of people will realize how undervalued he was. Only because we have no one to replace him with. Otherwise, he stinks. -

Could Beckham be the 3B of the future? Fields - stinks Viciedo - still a big question mark. Not only can he stick at third, but can he hit? Gilmore - a lot of questions with him, but looks like his D leaves a lot to be desired Morel - good defensively, but can he be an everyday player? Retherford - still not sold on him. Hitting good in the minors is one thing, but the majors is another. -
My ideal draft as of now: 23 - OF A.J. Pollock, Notre Dame 38 - C Tony Sanchez, Boston College 61 - OF Aaron Miller, Baylor 71 - P Kendall Volz, Baylor The Rest - A ton of pitching with a couple more OF, C, and corner infielders thrown in there for the flavor.

BearSox replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WCSox @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) Given that Peavy has a NTC, he has to "sign off" on the deal to make it happen. Are you saying that Cashman would've rather paid Sabathia $160 million (or paid Burnett $82 million) than traded a couple of prospects to the Padres for Peavy and the $70 million or so that he was left on his deal at the time? At the very least, I'd take Peavy over Burnett in a heartbeat. I don't believe the Yankees and Padres ever came to terms on a trade for Peavy. -

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 24, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Should this ship keep heading south I would love to see AJ gone by the deadline. He's been the most overrated player on this team for awhile. Agreed. Hopefully he can start hitting to the point where he might regain some value. Any playoff contenders need a C? I guess that might be more of a thing if said team loses a catcher at some point within the next month or so. When is Posada suppossed to come back? Hell, even when Posada comes back, they could use another C. So, maybe the Yankees could be a team interested in him.
