The starting pitcher the White Sox WILL acquire
BearSox replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 27, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Haren would be great! Unfortanatley i can see Haren being their version of Mark Buerhle. The guy you build a new rotation around. Now if they want to infuse young pitching into their system, trading Haren is the way to go. As of right now a Richard/Poreda combo would be hard for any GM to pass up. Why wouldn't Webb be "their version of Mark Buehrle?" He came up with them, has been their ace for the past 4 years or so, and is kind of like their face of the franchise along with Upton. -

Poreda and Richard would definitely be involved for Haren. The Diamondbacks are one team that would actually probably really interested in Allen as they really don't have anyone for 1B now or in the future. Maybe they would be interested in BA as well as Young has been sucking and they lack OF's on the major league team right now. -

Getting Haren would be pure awesomeness. I'd love to get him. When he has that splitter working for him, watch out. -
Birmingham getting shutdown pretty good. Only 1 hit, but they still got 1 run.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) The question is...can he still shoot the 3 like he did when he helped the Heat to that title? Actually... yes. -
Brad Boxberger, SP, Southern Cal - 6'2" 200 lbs.(Throws R | Bats R) Scouting Report Strengths: Has really improved this year and has 4 solid pitches. Possesses a low-mid 90's fastball with solid movement in to right handed hitters and has been able to keep the velocity late in games this year. Has a good hard tight slider and also a good curve. Also has an average change. Has a solid pitchers body and good poise on the mound. Negatives: Command is inconsistent and does not have great stamina. Will he be able to remain in the rotation or will he have to move to the pen? Player Comparison A lesser version of Chad Billingsly My Take Solid starting pitching prospect. Wouldn't take him with 23 and probably wouldn't take him with 38, but at 61 or 71, he's a very intriguing option. While he does have question marks on being able to stay in the rotation and if he can control his pitches, he has 4 solid pitches that can be effective. Seems like a high risk-high reward type of pick.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) The Peavy trade happened and Jake turned it down. KW does not work behind the scenes, he works wherever the f*** he wants to, so long as it makes the White Sox better. Damn you and your Ryan Sweeney tracker.

Jason Kipnis, OF/2B, Arizona St. - 6'0" 180 lbs. (Bats L | Throws R) Scouting Report Strengths: Is versatile and can play all 3 OF spots and even 2B. Has an extremely good eye and is a walk/OBP machine. Uses the whole field and has improved his swing since 2008. Has some pop and has above average speed with the ability to steal a few bases. Good feel in the OF and gets good reads, and has decent arm strength. Fantastic numbers against really good competition these past two years. Was drafted last year in the 4th round by San Diego. Is a real baseball player, has a great feel for the game, and plays hard, making the most of what he's got. Negatives: Might not be able to stick in CF and doesn't profile to hit for enough power for the corner spots. Doesn't have any really great tools and doesn't seem to impress some scouts. Is he an everyday player or 4th OF? Will his bat be able to translate to wood? Scouting Report Links http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...?content=kipnis http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=522 (This was a really good scouting report) http://www.minorleagueball.com/2009/4/22/8...ege-hitters-for Statistics 2009 - .380 AVG | 14 HR | 65 RBI | 200 AB | 76 H | 18 2B | 4 3B | 45 BB | 26 SO | 21 SB | 4 CS | .496 OBP | .720 SLG 2007 & 2008 - http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/K/Jason-Kipnis.shtml Bio http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-base...is_jason00.html Video http://mlb.mlb.com/media/player/mp_tpl_3_1...amp;bypass=true (Draft Video from last year) (Just a little interview from last year, no game footage) Projected Draft Slot Between rounds 2-4 Player Comparison Can't think of a good one right now. If I had to say though, a left handed version of Marco Scutaro who plays the OF and maybe even 2B. My Take A local product who is from Glenbrook North High School. He profiles to be at the very least a solid situational player or 4th OF. From what I have read, he doesn't seem to have really raised his value much since last year. Some scouts still feel he hasn't improved while others think he's a lock for round 2. Personally, depending on what we do with our first 3 picks, I wouldn't mind bringing in Kipnis at either pick 71 or with our 3rd rounder. Seems like a really solid player who fits what we are looking for.

Already? What, did they start at 10?

Decided to take today off, and do some draft reports. Here are the guys I'm hoping to get done... OF Jason Kipnis, Arizona St. SP Kyle Heckathorn, Kennesaw St. SP Chad Jenkins, Kennesaw St. SP Brad Boxberger, Southern Cal RP Joe Kelly, UC Riverside RP Jason Stoffel, Arizona Also, does anyone know if Brian Goodwin is a Boras client or not? I thought he was, but I can't find anything now to give me a definitive answer. EDIT: Finally found the answer to my question, he is a Boras client, and a UNC commit, so there a legit chance Goodwin falls in the draft and goes to UNC (Boras said something like he really feels that Goodwin will go to UNC afterall). I'm likely not gonna do a draft report on him anymore. And, I see Tate has been talked about as someone who is falling as well. UNC bringing in a damn good recruiting class if they can get those guys to come in.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 27, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I thought their house of horrors out west was Oakland? The whole west was their house of horrors.
-
QUOTE (onedude @ May 26, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) I don't see it either, at least no advantage, and he's moving when the ball is out of the pitchers hands. No he's not. He starts to move when the pitcher is in the process of throwing. No one waits until the ball is out of the pitchers hand to start their swing.
-
The thing I don't get is why didn't pitchers start throwing him breaking balls until yesterday.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 27, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) I'd say Sabean is the second worst GM in the Majors behind Ed Wade. What Sabean has done to that organization is a fireable offense. He has no right fielding that offensive team and putting it behind a pitching staff as good as he has. Nothing has been going right for the whole city of San Francisco for a while now.

Going back in time, this article is hilarious
BearSox replied to Steve9347's topic in The Diamond Club
I'm a believer that Carlos Lee will always be a loser. He's a good hitter, but I hate the way he plays the game. When we got rid of him was one of the happiest days I've had a Sox fan. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) And he's done it pitching at a launching pad. I was hesitant of Oswalt but I have taken a bit more of a look and he's not as bad of an option, assuming you can get him for a bit less than Peavy. That's the way I kind of feel right now. Obviously, most people would prefer Peavy. But Oswalt would give us that power righty we have been missing since Contreras/Garcia of 2005. The Astros have one of the worst farm systems in baseball, IIRC, so they could be looking for help in several directions. Obviously Poreda would be a part of the deal, but they could definitely use someone like Getz at 2B. Retherford could be a decent option for them. Shelby would be intriguing for them. Allen, not so much since they have Berkman and Lee. If we could get the deal done for Poreda, Shelby, Getz/Retherford, and one of the pitchers in our system not named Hudson, I'd be all for that.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 27, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) Hypothetically, if we could get Oswalt for Shelby, Cook, Retherford, and Omogrosso. Would you do it? In a heartbeat. Not a fan of Shelby, Cook isn't anything special, Retherford is a nice story but I question his potential. Omogrosso is interesting from what I've heard, but likely a bullpen arm. You do that deal in a heartbeat and run home laughing.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) Frankly, it's a deal I don't make. I think we'd be overpaying as written, even if Poreda is just a Matt Thornton clone. If we were desperate for pitching, which we're not, and we had a glut of highly performing Middle Infielders, I could see us making that move based around Alexei, but not with the other 2 added in. Lower guys. One other thing to keep in mind when Considering Alexei...we have another Cuban whose decision to sign with us likely involved the presence of 2 other Cubans in our organization. I agree. I like Cain, but I'm not sold on him being a great option for us. I'd much rather see us get Oswalt at a similar package that we offered Peavy then us giving up Alexei and our top two pitching prospects for Cain.

Hate the Sotomayer nomination for several reasons, but that should be no surprise for anyone who's come to know me on here. Nice, according to her, white males can't interpret the laws and consitution like a latino female. Yeah, that makes sense.

lol, maybe. I wouldn't be oppossed to it. -
I'm not so sure how interested they are in Allen. I guess it depends on how far away they think Villanova is and/or if they think one of Allen or Villanova can play LF. I'd offer them Allen, Fields, Getz/Nix, and Carter, and go from there. Definitely not enough, but then again, it is Sabean.
-
well then, he needs to find the best treatment and keep experimenting with different things until he finds the right thing to keep the pain controlled.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 27, 2009 -> 12:35 AM) Jordan's BABIP has to be well over .400. That's simply not going to last. Will see where he is a month or so from now. Why can't you accept the fact that he is the greatest player ever?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Well we can't judge him by what he hits in the majors, according to you anyway, we can't judge him by the fact no one wanted him, anything else that goes contra to your argument that you want to disqualify for Nix? I can't believe I am actually arguing with you again. I am an idiot. Judge him by how he plays, career minor league stats, and previous accolades... not by what his stats say after 40 AB's in 2009 or that he got overlooked after 2008. Considering Nix was a former 1st round pick and highly touted prospect with pretty good career minor league numbers, and with the way he has looked thus far, I'd say it's pretty erroneous to call him a bad baseball player.
