His last AB today was so typical of him. Foul back (and be a bit tardy might I add) a hanging curve right over the plate and make it 2 strikes, and not even come close to hitting a 90 mph fastball right over the plate. By the time he swung, the ball was already in the catchers mit. I've seen enough, to be honest. I'd much rather see Nix out there everyday as he at least provides solid AB's.

I thought the finale was a good way to end it as well, after how the past two seasons weren't all that great. Also, I'm not buying the whole Kellerman as a congressman thing.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 15, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Offensively, yeah. His name is Bryce Harper Harper isn't a senior until 2011.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance at him in round 3, 4, or 5. We are starting to get really good at developing pitchers, and if we can fix his mechanics, we might have something with him. I'd like to see a video of him. Just saw some video, he's got some good movement on his fastball, but needs work on his mechanics. And he's a lefty. I wouldn't mind taking a risk on him.

I've been at stage 5 for a while, even though stage 2 never really goes away.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) To be honest, I don't think he has any value. If scouts know about his fastball weakness, then so would GMs that would be considering trading him. Some team would be willing to trade for him thinking they can possibly fix his swing. It'd be another failed prospect/major project for failed prospect/major project trade, similar to the Thornton trade.

QUOTE (JustWin @ May 15, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Quentin is 0-4. I didn't expect him to keep up the pace as last year, but damn, this is bad. His avg is falling fast. Pitchers and scouts have found out how to get Quentin out, fastballs inside and breaking stuff low and away. It's time for Q to make some more adjustments. It also doesn't help that right now he's trying to pull everything.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 15, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) Oh okay, I knew something had to be off. I had seen him slated most places as still being a top 15 pick. Thanks for pointing that out. Been a long week, haha. lol, yeah, it's been a long one alright. Only about 20 or so days left, I believe.

They have Grant Green going 3rd overall...

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 15, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) Nix is superior to Getz defensively at 2B, but he didn't look too good at 3B when he played there briefly a week or two ago. Getz could probably play 3B as well as Nix can but Nix is by far the best second baseman on the team. lol, Nix might indeed be the better defender, but Getz is an extremely good defender as well and has done nothing but make great plays at 2B. The slight defensive upgrade at 2B Nix might provide is not worth the defensive dropoff at 3B if we put Getz there. While Nix didn't look great playing 3B for the first time in a year and a total of 9 times in his career, he'd still be a better option at 3B as he has the much better arm.

I agree with ya. I wouldn't want this with either of our top 3 pick. 71 or later would be fine by me, but I see too much risk with this guy.

Draft Profile, Brett Jackson-CF, Cal Berkley
BearSox replied to bighurt4life's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 15, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) It is widely believed that Ken Williams attended at least one of Jackson's games in person. The Sox apparently like his tools a lot, although he hasn't played as good as scouts thought he would this season and that makes him no longer a lock to go in the first round. Still, he's a pretty toolsy player with great athletism who fits into what the Sox seem to be preaching. I wouldn't be at all shocked if the Sox went his way. I still think Trout and Pollack are better fits, but you could make a far worse selection than Brett Jackson. The biggest thing is he still has had problem making contact and high strikeout rates from college players tend to be a pretty good indicator that a player will ultimately struggle to make it in the major leagues. He's striking out around 28% of the time, which is a pretty high strikeout rate for a top collegiate draft pick. For example, Josh Fields (yep, our Josh Fields) was said to have a pretty high strike-out rate in college and that was 18.5% of the time. Bottom line, I wouldn't touch him until the 2nd round, anything earlier is too risky for a guy that still has a lot of flaws in his game. Raw tools are good, but you shouldn't take projects too early, imo, especially with more complete players on the board with similar upside. Pretty much summed it up. -
I loke Volz as a potential starter or short reliever. Also, another guy I can't help but be intrigued by is Bobby Borchering. I can't help but find a switch hitting high school 3B with his power and hitting ability to be a very tempting pick.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Beckham at 3rd base would really negate his offensive numbers from a position standpoint. The best possible way for the Sox to have a strong team up the middle is with Alexei in CF and Beckham at SS. Nix should not be in our 3 year plan though. All I can say is, who gives a crap. Do you think the Rangers care that now instead of having an elite hitting SS, they now have a very good hitting 3B? Unless we are planning on trading Beckham, it really doesn't matter if he has to play LF, as long as it results us putting the best team on the field. If Alexei fails, then we have Beckham to replace him. But if Alexei improves his approach at bat, he would be the best option at SS, as his range is matched by few short stops. And Fields is already balancing on the line of becomming a bust, and Viciedo seems like he's still quite a ways away and might be in line for a position change as I've heard his D is far from spectacular.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 15, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) I like this lineup, except I would move Getz to third and let Nix play 2B. That would make no sense, as while they are both very good defensively at 2B, Nix is much better suited to play 3B than Getz is.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 15, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Why is it Nix can be moved all over the Field but Ramirez is entrenched at short? Has Ramirez been all that great out there? He played a good third last year and is suppossed to be a good centerfielder. Is his psyche that weak? It's the wise move to let Ramirez develop at SS. He's the best defender we have at SS, and his future is there. He's still a project and still needs to develop. We're not going to throw all of the upside he potentially brings because of a rough start to the season offensively. Nix on the other hand needs to show he can play all these different spots to keep a roster spot. His ability to play good D at 2B and possibly 3B and SS as well only increases his value to the team.

Question for Greg Walker haters...

QUOTE (qwerty @ May 15, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) He did. Hamilton got rid of his toe tap at the beginning of his swing, roughly ten days into the season hamilton went to jarimillo to help him get back his old swing. Oops. Yep, I still remember seeing him for the first time this seeing and not realizing it was him until they said his name. It's all part of the learning process for him. Sadly, instead of already having gone through this, all those years of drug abuse set him back. -
When is it time to move Konerko up to the four spot?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2009 -> 07:42 AM) Cook didn't play for B-Ham, system-wide filler guy Javier Colina DH'd instead. Adding fuel to the fire of Cook going to Charlotte rumors. Can Cook play CF at all? If so, yeah, he'll be the likely call up.
-
From what I've seen of him, he's not much of a player, but he should be good in AAA and with Charlotte, and I'm all for anything to make that Charlotte team better. He's got a long powerful swing, similar to Prince's, but he is just no where near as good of a baseball player that Prince is. I'd have no problem with it. IIRC, he was once a highly touted prospect. Also, has he had weight problems? He's gained a ton of weight since he first came into the league. He's gained almost 40 pounds since coming into the league in 2001.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 15, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) This will give us a couple of games to try Lillibridge in right field. Actually, odds are it'll be Nix.

From what I've heard, Hamilton changed his stroke on his own omission after he had that rough 2nd half last year. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) 5/2/3 innings with 3 runs given up. If he had given up 3 runs in 6 innings it would have been a 4.5 ERA, so in this case he had a little less, thus if you do the math, his ERA was actually 4.76. I'm such a retard. Instead of putting 5 and 2/3 or .667, I was putting in 5.2 like a f***ing idiot. I feel really stupid now.

The thing is, this is a very serious and risky procedure to undergo chemotherapy. If it was a very safe medicine they were refusing to give the child, that'd be different. The child is 13, so it's not like he doesn't know what he's doing. From the article, it seemed both parents and the child all agreed to not undergo the procedures, and so I feel the government has no right to force him to go into chemo. Also, what about the first amendment?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) And there's another key point...the difference with an abortion is that the fetus is relying on the mother's body for life. After birth, the child is no longer doing so. That's key to the entire court decision...its always different, I know, but in this case it's important. So after the mother pops out the baby, the baby doesn't need the mother anymore? What defines a human being? Is the fact that the baby (oh sorry, I mean fetus) grows and is biologically a human being not enough?
