Here's another report on him: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...p?content=trout I wouldn't mind grabbing him some point in the first 5. If he can turn out to be able to switch hit and hit effectively from both sides, hot damn. Needs some work on his swing though, from the couple of clips I've seen. Another toolsy prep outfielder I like is Brian Goodwin. He needs some work on his swing as well, but he reminds me a lot of Kenny Lofton. He supposedly is a very good defender, and has a good, and potentially plus arm in center. His swing is a bit slappy though, but he puts the ball in play and uses his great speed to his advantage. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...content=goodwin

Another OF I really like is Aaron Miller from Baylor. Here is a draft report on him: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...content=amiller He sounds like a perfect money ball player, but with our new approach to bringing in more patient hitters, this is probably the type of hitter we'd like to bring in. The only thing that scares me is how they say he becomes to passive at times, but that can be corrected, plus I really like his swing. From the little I have seen of him and what I have read about him, he sounds very similar to Andre Ethier, and I heart Ethier.

I like him and I think he could be a fast riser, and we could use some more OF depth in the system. At the very least, I think he could be a very solid 4th OF. I've heard anywhere from late first to early 3rd. I wouldn't want him with our first pick, but in the supplemental round out with one of 2nd rounders, I got no problem.
-
From what I have heard, it looks like teams are shying away from him and he will probably go in the mid 1st at the earliest. I guess a lot of teams aren't willing to risk a lot on him with his injury concerns.

I really think a requirement for all new stadiums to be built that there has to be a retractable roof. I love Milwaukee's stadium and how they have a clear roof so even when the roof is closed on an afternoon game, it still feels like an afternoon game.

Bummer, Hudson's debut for W-S was rained out. We'll have to wait until tomorrow.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 6, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) we should really and try to mobilize this - between us and the Red Sox fans, we're probably the most dedicated voting blocks out there... it's possible. Yankees and Cubs are up there as well.
-
I really love this idea. Having someone like Milledge voted into the all-star game would force MLB's hands in changing the system.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) Sugar Cane says hi. From what I've read, that only covers about 15% of Brazil's oil needs. Sure, it's a start, but how practical is it?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) Haha, Lillibridge has a f***ing lucky charm up his ass so far this season to keep getting into the lineup. With all the minor injuries, this is the worst lineup in the American League by far. In all fairness though, Lillibridge did have a good game yesterday. However, I agree with you. Also, why don't we put Nix in RF and have one of Pods or Lilli in CF, with Betemit at 3B. Nix has almost as much experience at 3B than he does in the OF, so why the hell not. With Grienke on the mound, we need as much O as possible.

I'd like to say, I seriesly started the whole seriesly thing.

Probably another one of Fathom's insiders. He's got about 12,000 of them strategically located around the world.

QUOTE (Cali @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) How bout you switch that around. Let's keep Richard in long relief where he's awful, instead of in the rotation where he's GOD awful.... Poreda's been starting in the minors lets keep it that way... I agree. Richard simply isn't that good and has been rocked this season as well. I'd much rather take my chances with Poreda.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Crap, meant to say if Wednesday isn't postponed (heard there's a good chance of it). If Contreras bombs again, Richard would move into rotation and Poreda would take over for long relief. Where does Contreras go? Bullpen, DFA? Personally, I think in the pen, Contreras can be a decent middle man. I don't think his arm can handle starting anymore, but an inning or two every couple of days could be just what the doctor ordered. It seems to me whenever he starts, he starts out with solid stuff, but quickly fades and loses effectiveness on his pitches and control.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) The sun, the tides, the wind, geothermal forces and rivers all say "hi". I was more so referring to an alternative to gas for cars and such.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 4, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) You cant be 100% sustainable simply by drilling off-shore and I believe our long term best interests are alternative fuel sources. So, I am against it. Still, no one knows when we will find an alternative fuel source, and like you said, wouldn't it be better if we didn't have to rely on other countries for such important resources?
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 4, 2009 -> 08:47 AM) I'd find a way to put a tariff on imported goods made by companies that leave the US. Find a way to lock them in. I'm probably in the minority that I believe in "America First". We should be a self sustaining country and not have to rely on goods brought in from over seas. Or at lease as self-sustaining as possible. What is your position on drilling off shore than?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:13 AM) Yeah, it just killed this team in 2007 and the subsequent 2008 season. This should be the last year on the Sox for anyone associated with 2005 besides for Buehrle and Konerko (due to contract). Dye and Jenks don't look like they'll fit in for 2009 (10 million plus would be too much for either). KW's moves last offseason sure made it seem like he was focused on the 2010-2011-2012 Sox season instead of the 2009, so he should stick to the plan if things don't pan out the first 4 months. BTW, according to Baseball America, Birmingham is the 2nd most exciting minor league team in the country this year. Just an interesting tidbit I heard yesterday. I think we'll see one of Dye or Thome back next year. I'm all for the youth movement, but we still need to put a competitive team out there and I'm not very fond of a lineup that consists of basically Q and PK in the middle of the lineup. Dye will be expensive, and it probably wouldn't make a ton of sense to restructure his contract and keep him for another 2 seasons. I guess if we let Dye go and bring back Thome on a cheap one year deal, that'd be the cheapest option. But I don't think it would be the best option from a baseball standpoint. As for Jenks, I'm all for trading him, and I'd prefer to do it sooner than later. Come June and July, if we are around 3rd place and aren't looking like serious contenders, I'd be all for trading him. Mainly because I think we can get the most value from him at the deadline when a team that is in contention needs a bullpen arm badly (kind of like the Mets last year). I like Jenks, but he's just gonna cost too much and there's some serious health concerns, IMO. I'm not expecting a Ugerith Urbina package for him, but I think we could get a pretty nice package for Jenks.
-
Lets hope he keeps it up. I've been a big fan of his since I saw his scouting video. He's got some really good movement on a low-mid 90's fastball, and from what I've read, he's got a sick slider that he can actually locate. That 30:2 K:BB is sick as hell.
-
I like Wilson Betemit and thought he would add some good depth and versatility... but I'm with Fathom on this one. Why the hell did we trade for him if we aren't gonna use him. So far in most of the the games he's played in (which seems like 3), he's hit. I don't get it... maybe he's assosiated with BA too much.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 3, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) So you want to move the guy from 2nd who is hitting, so you can keep the guy at SS who is hitting like crap. How about we move Ramirez to CF as he will be there when Beckham comes up next year. Nix can field the ball with the best of them, he doesnt hit all that well. Hence why he was released by the Rockies. Right now Ramirez is the best SS on the MLB club, and I'm not sure anyone is sold of Beckham's ability to play SS. Plus, he is actually starting to hit now. Getz was said to be able to play the OF last year as well, and Nix showed he has some GG caliber D at second. Plus, he had the best approach and AB's of anyone on the team tonight... however, with the lineup we put out there tonight, that's like being the tallest midget. Right now I'd rather keep Ramirez at SS and see how Getz does in CF rather than Ramirez in CF with Getz/Lillibridge/Nix at SS.
-
Fields looked beyond pitiful tonight and should be no where near the 2 hole. Betemit has been swinging decently and should get a few games in at a position he might be able to actually play. Why don't we try and see if Getz can play some CF instead? I really like what I saw out of Nix today, and if Getz can play CF even some-what decent, we have our answer there for the rest of the season... 1. Getz, CF 2. Nix, 2B 3. Quentin, LF 4. Thome, DH 5. Dye, RF 6. Konerko, 1B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Fields, 3B 9. Ramirez, SS

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) nevermind. He already started that "you need speed at the top of the order" awful baseball cliche. Many people believe in that... Morgan is worse for much different reasons. At least he has that he played the game at a high level going for him, which is more than what a lot of other announcers can say. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Ankiel is a boras client. So that pretty much ends any speculation. That only matters if we plan on keeping him after the year. -

With any kind of luck, this lineup will convince Kenny to trade for someone like Ankiel.
