Also, I just wanted everyone to know that I wasn't implying this to one side or the other, but rather all of them. If there was a Filibuster catch all, I would have posted there, but since not, I decided to post it in here.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) Not every ballplayer can be as heaven sent as Ryan Sweeney. lol, you got that right.

I think that list was created around 2006... however, I don't think the numbers have gone done much.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) Fields' swing was short and quick in ST. If you remember, he was pulling everything into LF, which was a concern. As the spring continued, his swing got a lot bigger and this forced him to hit almost everything to RF and RCF. The last 2 weeks, his triples and his homer and solid strokes have all come in this direction. He has to be more quick and direct to the ball or he'll end up a very below-average 3B both defensively AND offensively. Most troubling is the "swing and a miss" routine on 84 to 98 MPH fastballs right down the pike. His homer was a solid swing, but any true power hitter would have pulled it or it hit it dead center. He's been playing well, but you summed it pretty well. He is late on almost everything, and the swing and miss routine is definitely the most troubling and aggravating. If you can't hit a 90 mph fastball right down the middle, you shouldn't be in the majors.

I read this and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.... ------------------------------------------------------ Is it the NBA or NFL? 36 have been accused of spousal abuse 7 have been arrested for fraud 19 have been accused of writing bad checks 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses 3 have done time for assault 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges 8 have been arrested for shoplifting 21 currently are defendants in lawsuits, 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year Can you guess which organization this is? Give up yet? Neither, it’s the 435 members of the United States Congress; the same group of Idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) I believe that he was drafted by us as a draft-and-follow player (whatever the hell that means) the previous season. FYI, he is the brother of Nationals 1B Eli Marrero Eli is actually his uncle, but his brother is top prospect Christopher Marrero, who is also a 1B in the Nationals system.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) Ha! It will still affect his hitting until he heals. Ha! You don't know that. The tip of the middle finger on your bottom hand has not been ever proven to affect hitting. It might be uncomfortable to grip the bat at first, but is definitely something you could play through. I know this is an unfair comparison considering Getz isn't 1/1000th of the player Gehrig was, but Lou Gehrig was able to play multiple broken fingers during his great streak of games played. It'll probably be uncomfortable, but if Getz can handle a little pain, it shouldn't have a great impact on his bat. It's the throwing the ball part that will cause a lot of trouble becuase when you release it, the last part of your hand to leave the ball is the tip of your middle finger. And that is exactly where Getz's injury is.

I think we'll see Nix on the big league club soon enough, whether or not Getz goes on the DL or not. I could see Owens getting DFA'd, Nix taking his spot, and Lillibridge staying on as the backup CF.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) I had same type of injury as Getz, and it takes a week to feel comfortable again when gripping the bat and throwing the ball. It's not even close to being the same type of injury that Konerko had. This is the type of thing which should heal quickly. Yeah, it's the throwing part that I think would hold him back. As for gripping a bat, it might be uncomfortable, but that's something you can play through, I'd think. Plus, it's his bottom hand that has the broken finger.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Ha! BS, just ask PK how a broken finger can affect your batting. Ha! PK didn't have a broken finger. He had a bone bruise on his hand. Completely different.

Lets get one thing straight... the dude is pretty ugly. But he's a good ball player, and that's all that matters... but seriously, that face is not easy on the eyes.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) Time to promote Infante and challenge him Practically that whole Kanny rotation needs to be challenged some more. They are just basically dominating.
-
Hopefully Getz can play through it. The biggest concern with this is throwing the ball. I don't see how it should affect his bat or swing that much. Lou Gehrig played through numerous broken fingers, but as a first baseman, he rarely ever had to throw the ball. I hope to see Getz play through it, but I can see how that can really affect him throwing the ball, and if that's the case, he'll have to go on the DL.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) Good point about needing the 1b back-up. Oh, and I would have played him either at 3rd base today or find a way to play him at 2nd base. If Getz is out an extended period, we're going to have to get some offense from that position. I really think Betemit needs more playing time at 3B. He had that rough two game stretch against TB where he struck out like 6 times, but he also had a couple solid base hits in that span as well. Whenever we face a pitcher who throws harder than 92-94, Betemit should be starting. From watching Fields this year, he has consistently been late on almost everything, and he still struggles to hit even 91 mph fastballs right over that plate.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Same reason why Lillibridge made the team. Don't want to make the Vazquez and Swisher trades look like salary dumps. They want to try and show at least 1 player in each trade return contribute to the big league team. Um actually Lillibridge made the team because we needed someone who can backup the MI. If Nix never got injured, I'd bet Lillibridge would have never started the season on the 25 man roster.

You know, we thought Wise was bad.... Owens is about 20x worse. It'd be a breath of fresh air to have Wise out there instead of Owens. Hopefully we DFA Owens and call up Prancer. Prancer sucks as well, but he's a ton better as a baseball player.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) Owens misplays a flyball, and Quentin had to bail him out. Please pull that f***er off the field immediately. Agreed. Put Betemit at 2B and Lillibridge in center. Is Broadway in town? If so, I have a feeling we might see him pitch tonight with Buehrle throwing nothing but floating slow balls.
-
Hopefully we DFA Owens after this game. I'd take him out of the game right now for this pathetic show of defense he has displayed. I'd rather take my chances with Prancer.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) Frankly I don't care that they didn't let him speak and things like that don't even register on my radar. Do you really think the Republicans don't do the same kind of thing, on an issue as highly policitized as this? (I said this in another thread) Give me an example in the past 10 years of Republicans doing that, and I'll accept your point.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) He was scratched did they give a reason?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) That's just freaking ridiculous to have to play Owens, especially against a lefty. The Swisher trade becomes more of a joke with every passing day. BTW, why was Getz scratched? Which Swisher trade? Cause I think its tough to match the stupidity of the original Swisher trade.
-
Why did we give our best player from yesterday and a guy who has been seeing the ball really well a day off? Did Getz play too good? Also, yesterday the pitcher was lefty as well, so you can't use that excuse. Nice to see Fields drive the ball for once

Why do you refuse to mention that the dirty dems refused to let him speak? Please tell me why they would refuse to let him speak.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Why do you consider him brilliant? Because you agree with him and not the other scientists who say otherwise? He's actually got facts on his side, and he knows more about this subject than anyone else I have ever heard talking about "global warming" either in support or against it. Also, why don't you mention how the dirty dems actually banned him from testifying? Oh I know, because he's some radical nutjob because he doesn't believe in the crap Gore has been peddling.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) I think lostfan's sig sums it up best. Good day sir. Oh good comeback. You insult me by calling me immoral, and then just run off when I challenge you and your views of morality. I'll stop here just out of respect for this forum.
