Who has a stronger arm, Pods or Owens? It's a close one, but I give the nod to Pods.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 12:52 AM) Yeah, this is stuff I realized belatedly, but not at the time, I was so pissed off. I still wonder what would have happened had Dean been the Dem nominee in '04 though. I'm still wondering what would have happened if Jack Ryan didn't get busted for wanting kinky sex and having to withdraw from the senate election, which gave the seat to Obama. Jack Ryan was almost a virtual lock to win it, IIRC. I wonder, who would be president right now? McCain? Romney? Hilary?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Do you have ODS? I guess his metaphors are kinda crazy if you just cut it up into tidbits and distort everything he says. I knew your post was garbage when I clicked on the video and it was created by Media Matters. Honestly, what was the point of posting that?

What if Pods comes back, plays, hits .290 with a .350 OBP, steals 50+ bases and gets voted into the all-star game?

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) I think Allen is gonna force KW's hand the way Howard forced Thome out. Of course it was a lot easier to trade Thome back then compared to trying to trade one of Thome/Konerko. Allen still probably needs another half season at least after this year. Thome is a FA and he won't be returning. If Dye keeps hitting like he has the past 3 years, there's little reason why we shouldn't pick up his option.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) I think so. What I want to know---why the hell did the Reds pass on Beckham for another lefty 1B, in Alonso? They have Votto and Bruce for lefty power. I'm not saying Alonso is going to be a bust, but wow I think they blew it. So, thank you, Reds. Maybe they did what the Brewers did when they selected Matt Laporta. Basically drafting the guy as trade bait.

Manny considers return to CLE to end career

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) I know one thing for sure... with all of the power we have in the minors, I don't see a way Thome is here in 2010. I'm gonna miss him, but it'd be for the best. -

QUOTE (almagest @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) Or Dye. Dye has an option for around 10 million, and if he keeps hitting, there's no reason why we should pick it. He would move to DH, Quentin to RF. That would leave CF and LF for us to fill via FA/trade. -

With the contract Hafner has right now, there's no way they'd be able to get rid of him, unless he tears the cover off the ball this year, but if he does that, they wouldn't want to get rid of him. -
All MLB Players Forced to Wear 42 on Wednesday
BearSox replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Diamond Club
Selig is a hack... I can't wait until baseball gets a new commissioner. As for the 42 thing, it should be completely optional. Why don't we make a Babe Ruth day? No one has done more for baseball then him. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Since 2006. Homestands are either 5 or 10 days. Only one 10 game homestand this year for the Barons though. Why do they only do for AA then?
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) I noticed the AA schedule is pretty much all 5-game series throughout the season. Is this new for 2009, or have they done this before? I kinda like it. One time through everyone's rotation. Hm, I didn't realize that until you said something. I looked back on the previous schedules, and they didn't start doing that until 2006. It isn't like for any of Charlotte, Kanny, or W-S (they play primarily 4 game series). I wonder why they do that only for AA. Hmm, I don't know. The only thing I can think of is that it is widely considered that AA has the most talent, so they want to make it mainly 5 game series so scouts have more opportunity to look at players in a series.

You're the only one.... Hawk and Stoney are making a fantastic combo so far.

QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) sweet now i can wear my owens jersey again I hope this was a joke... why in the world would you buy an Owens jersey? You related to him?
-
This is just bogus. I knew he'd return to. Screw Owens. Take Nix off the DL and have Anderson play CF with Lillibridge as the backup.

I thought that each league had their own umpire crews... but today I noticed the Cubs have the same crew the Sox did over the weekend. Are there American and National league umpires still separated and this is just a rarity because this crew was already in town, or does the league not matter anymore?
-
Is it just me, or does Hawk sound even better now that Stone is announcing games with him? I love listening to Sox games now... Anyone else think the only reason DJ stayed with the White Sox as the radio man was because he was possibly guaranteed Hawks spot on the TV, whenever it might be when Hawk retires?
-
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) that is a very unlikely set of circumstances. I like it! Good job JD and PK! World Series MVP and the man who hit a granny in the Series. Sox heroes forever. JD was the WS MVP, PK was the ALCS MVP. It seems like JD and PK have become quite good friends as well. Special day for both them, one they will probably never forget (unless they do it again in 3-4 years... but I doubt that, lol).

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) He was drilled in the triceps yesterday by an inside fastball. And he has no pad or protection on his arm, Im sure it hurt like hell Hurt, yes... severe, by no means. We should see him back within the next day or two.
-
From all indications, we are still very high on Nix, and after he rehabs in Charlotte, we will probably make roster space for him. Either we get rid of MacDougal and go with 6 bullpen arms for a little bit, OR we send down Lillibridge, OR we place Getz on the DL not because he is hurt really bad but just to make room for Nix while we decide what to do.
-
does anyone know if Chris got injured or anything? I thought it was strange for the team to pinch run Lillibridge for Getz yesterday, and now today Lillibridge is starting....

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) I think he's saying he's tired of seeing people bash Obama and/or mock the liberal base just for the sake of doing it. I thought it was pretty witty... I was trying to come up with one involving them being Muslim, but I couldn't. I'm just not that creative.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) I love reading these threads. People luuuuuv to comment on media by taking their small sample size of experience (usually linked to) form their opinion doused in hostile media effect, and scream their opinions. That's the scary thing about modern political commentators, they are but the smallest step above average message board user, but they are getting paid to do their job. It terrifies me to think that someone might be lurking on soxtalk recruiting bearsox with a radio show, and frankly, he wouldn't seem all that out of place. Ah, one could only hope... Hell, I have had plans to create a website/blog in the future where I voice my opinions on sports and politics. Maybe one day when that site is created, I will get a link on drudge report for some reason, massively increase the amount of traffic on my website, have either Fox or the guys who run 560 the wind notice me, offer me a job as an analyst, and go from there! Likely will never happen, but one could only hope... and thanks to Barack Obama, I have realized that I can hope!!!!!!!!

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) Yeah, I love their OF, Scott-Jones-Markakis is the sex. I'm still not sold on Jones. I haven't been too impressed when I've seen him play and he needs to fix that strike out and no plate discipline problem before I consider him a future top player. However, he's got a ton of potential. Hell, even Pie still has a lot of potential. Most importantly though, Markakis is 99.9999% of the sex in the O's outfield. I'd possibly give not just one, but both of my nuts to have Markakis on this team. He's like an even awesomer version of Sweeney! I don't know, it seems like I have a fetish for lefty throwing and hitting outfielders. I love Sweeney, Ethier, and Markakis.

Josh Field's doesn't have all that pretty of a swing, but if he keeps getting hits (especially clutch ones) and getting on base, I don't care what his swing looks like! Also, outside of game 1, Crede has looked pitiful. He's played poor D, and he has ZERO bat speed. Either he's not fully healed yet, OR his back is still hurting him, OR he's just plain done as a MLB Caliber player.
