  1. From what I've heard about Phegley, there are still question marks as to if he can actually stay behind the plate. But he's shown he's been able to hit. However, which conference is has tougher opponents, the Big 10 or ACC?
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 20, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Colin Powell Needs to Run With This Idea: Powell is as much of a republican as you are.
  3. IIRC, someone here said or posted an article stating he doesn't have much stuff.
  4. Rich Poythress, 1B, Georgia - (Bats R | Throws R) (^Gordon Beckham left, Rich Poythress right^) Scouting Report Strengths: Big powerful hitter with power to all fields. Has hit for a high average in college ball. Knows the strike zone and draws walks. Is considered a safe pick. Negatives: Lack of bat speed leaves questions about his ability to hit for average at the next level. Is mediocre defensively without much arm strength. Is he only a one dimensional player? Has not hit Friday starters all that well and has cooled down since his great start. Player Comparison Ryan Shealy My Take A college teammate of Gordon Beckham, Poythress would be more of a luxury pick at this time. We have Allen and potentially Viciedo as 1B/DH types, and there's no answer as to when Paul Konerko will no longer be wearing a White Sox uniform. I wouldn't even be tempted to touch him with pick no. 23. However, if he falls to 38, it'd be hard to pass him up. Also, his swing seems similer to Beckham's.
  5. I only have time for 1 profile today, and I'm gonna knock that out in a couple minutes... but, if I have time this weekend, I plan on doing a mock draft. It'll be tougher this year since outside of the top 5 or so, there's not gonna be a huge difference between the players taken at 10 overall and 20 overall like there was last year, but I'll try my best. I'll give you guys a sneak preview though... Bit of a surprise, I have Strasburg going no. 1 overall! Shocker, I know.
  6. He's clearly the no. 1 college catching prospect right now, and it seems he can come off the board anywhere from 20-40. Here is a good scouting report on him with a little video: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...content=sanchez
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Rice has been a pitching farm-house and your right, off the top of my head I can't think of a ton of positional players going early in the draft out of Rice. That said, he's done a good job handling Rice's pitching staff. The question is how involved Seastrunk is in calling pitches and stuff since at the collegiate level, 98% of the time the calls come from the dugout. He is a project at the catcher position. I think the reason for his hitting struggles this year (he had a great offensive year last year) is that he has been spending and focusing most of his time on catching. However, he seems like the type that will have no problem learning.
  8. Nice! So, what happens when their current contracts run out? Arbitration?
  9. The thing is though, Obama could have not allowed the CIA and Panetta show what type of lying fool Pelosi is. Maybe it wasn't orchestrated, per se, but rather they might have seen it as an opening to finally get Pelosi out as the speaker.
  10. On a somewhat related note, I hope we can keep Rick Hahn here as long as possible. However, he's a top candidate for any future open GM spots, and unless KW takes a powder, Hahn won't be getting the White Sox GM spot any time soon.
  11. Anyone think this whole Pelosi thing has been orchestrated by Obama? I think Obama wants her out, and his guy in.
  12. Well, one thing is for sure, she should have her kids taken away. Not only was she having sex with them in the back seat, she was drunk and there was marijuana and open containers all over. What a waste of a human being she is.
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 20, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) Fields has an option remaining. He does? Good, then it shouldn't be a tough decision whether or not to send him down if he keeps sucking it up.
  14. Nice outing for Poreda, and glad to see Gilmore doing well. Imagine how scary Birmingham is gonna be once Beckham gets going.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 20, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) I didn't say he was good. I doubt if he ever will be any more than average. He is not worse than Betemit though. I'd say the loss in defense will be much obliqued if Betemit can hit above .250 and provide good AB's.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) Everyone talks about Fields playing solid defense, but if you watch the games closely you'll see that his 3B positioning is awful and that in fact he's flat out mediocre. I don't know if anyone has any defensive metrics (as I am not good at those) which would back what my eyes are telling me but I haven't been impressed at all. I'll also admit I was very spoiled. I think a short stint in AAA is what the doctor ordered and during that time you go with a combo of Nix/Betemeit. They couldn't hit anyworse and your saving Fields in a sense. But I think Fields gets a little bit longer before the Sox go that route and I don't have a problem with that. At this point his trade value is pretty low to the point that all you can do is trade him for another failed prospect (something I'm not opposed to). I'm pretty sure Fields is out of options, so he would likely have to pass through waivers and accept assignment to Charlotte if we went that route. Also, anyone find it ridiculous that we have Dye 3rd, Thome 4th, and PK 5th? Is it just me, or does it make too much sense to put Thome 3rd, PK 4th, and Dye 5th, with Quentin 6th? Konerko's been our best hitter this year, so why not try and capitalize on that? Think whatever you want of Thome, he's still getting on base at a great clip, and with the way we've been playing, we need to maximize our scoring oppurtunities. Dye did homer yesterday, but he's been in a bit of a funk, but we also need someone to protect Paulie as well. Soon pitchers are just gonna unintentianally intentianally walk Konerko to face AJ or Alexei instead.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 20, 2009 -> 05:23 AM) There is absolutely no way I'm taking either Anderson out of the lineup or Quentin out of the 3 hole on a regular basis. I don't know why you would. Until Quentin gets healthy and starts actually hitting the ball again, there's no reason for him batting 3rd. As for Anderson, right now, like it or not, Podsednik is our best option as leadoff hitter. You use Anderson as late inning defensive replacement, and starting CF vs. lefties (in that case, Nix than leads off).
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Wasn't Sauer an ASU go or am I confusing him for someone else? I swear I've seen him pitch a couple times against the Titans. No, you're right, he was a Sun Devil. That was my mistake. I was thinking of Ryan Strauss, who we picked 1 round ahead of Sauer.
  19. Bobby Borchering, 3B, HS Florida - 6'4" 200 lbs. (Bats S | Throws R) Scouting Report Strengths: Has great bat speed and really good power from both sides of the plate. Also has a really strong arm and decent running speed. Is a real good athlete as well. Loads of potential. Negatives: Is a project defensively and might not be able to stick at 3B (a move to 1B or LF could be necessary). Still has some holes in his swing. Scouting Report Links http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...tent=borchering http://redsoxprospects57174.yuku.com/srepl...ng-Reports.html http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerp...e.aspx?ID=49194 http://teamonebaseball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=636282 Statistics http://baseball.uaallamerica.com/pub/athle...obby-Borchering (2007 or 2008) From baseballamerica (2009) Bio http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerp...e.aspx?ID=49194 http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/...tory?id=3879911 http://baseball.uaallamerica.com/pub/athle...obby-Borchering Video Projected Draft Slot Mid-Late 1st Rounder Player Comparison Chipper Jones My Take Very tempting player to pass up if he's there at 23. It is tough to ignore a young 3B with his hitting ability and power from both sides of the plate. Is a bit of a project, but a ton of upside if we go this route.
  20. I like Getz and Fields, and want them to succeed, but at this point, it's idiotic to trot them out there everyday. It's basically setting them up for failure. I don't know what you can do with Fields if he doesn't show some life within in the next couple of weeks or so, but if Getz continues to struggle, there's a spot for him on Charlotte.
  21. Just noticed that Viciedo has 3 stolen bases on the year... Big boy seems to have at least some athletic ability.
  22. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 19, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) What's the book on Sauer? Does his stuff stand a chance? I'd say his name does.. IIRC, he was drafted last year out of Florida St (In like the 13 round or something like that). I think he was their saturday starter. He was really solid for them, but nothing spectacular. If I had to guess, I'd say he probably profiles to another no. 4 or 5 pitcher at best.
  23. FINALLY!!!!! Hopefully we see a lot more of Nix and Betemit in the upcoming weeks. Lets sacrifice some D with Betemit at 3B, and have Nix play 2B. Also, I wouldn't mind putting Dye in the 5 spot. Right now, a lineup of the following gives us the best chance to win, IMO: 1. Podsednik, CF 2. Nix, 2B 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Quentin, LF 7. Betemit, 3B 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Ramirez, SS None-the-less, it was refreshing to see a win, even if it was just 1 win.
  24. I say the official point to see if we are contenders or pretenders in June 15. If we are still sucking by then, blow it up. If we start to look good, keep in tact and go for the division crown. However, as others have said in the past, the worst thing the ball club can do right now is hang around somewhere in the middle where they're bad, but not bad enough to give up hope.
