QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) I'm not giving up....this game is our's for the takin' In his division, the whole seSon's been there for the takin'. Sox just haven't.

Hawk's giving up. Again. Like we all are. Again.

The board only allows 10 choices, so I had to pick between having 10-0 and 0-10 as choices. I refuse to even think of 0-10 as an option, whereas thinking a pipe dream of 10-0 is fun. On that note, I'm going to pick 6-4. Split in Boston, win each of the 2 other series.

Who here is happy Uribe's not on the team anymore?
bobryansson replied to whitesoxgt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Because of the talk of Uribe, memories of '05, and, particularly, the "last out" video, I immediately went to YouTube and watched the Sox intro and the '05 Series highlights. Brought tears to my eyes... -

Born in 1960, I'm not the oldest poster here, nor the youngest (or even close), nor do I have the most or fewest posts. I have been watching the Sox since the mid-60's. There were some incredibly painful stretches. I try to explain to my kids, who have only known them for the last 10+ years, how painful. They have no idea, without experiencing it. Sox fans don't revel in the futility as some others do. I don't know about this as a turning point, because, as has been noted several times, there have been a ton of them. I do want to jump on the bandwagon to say that it is incredibly enjoyable to even consider contending nearly all the time. Having young talent in the program and having experienced talent signed for years fills me with hope. Hope was not a description of how things looked for the Sox when I was the age my kids (21, 18, and 14) are now. The turning point was the joining or JR, KW, and Ozzie. -

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) You could say that for the last 3 or 4 years. It's a symptom of the Dyethomenerko middle of the order. These guys give away late at-bats constantly and have for years. It's become the character of the team. It's why we don't rally. And it's the reason, when people yammer about their statistical productivity, that they're not telling the whole story. These guys are a sleepy, slumpy mass of inertia. I agree. Said the same thing, not as well, for the last couple years. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) Nice move by Jeff Cox to send TCQ on a shallow Bloomquist. Ouch. Thanks, I'd somehow put that one out of my mind. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Alexei was pretty bad defensively the 2nd half of last season also. To me, though, he didn't seem unmotivated and to have been so mentally out of he game. Physical mistakes, yes. -

If one of my kids had been doing well, pretty intelligent and busting his butt and looking sharp one year, then the next year seemed unmotivated and made numerous mental mistakes, I'd have to wonder what other issues were having an influence in his life. -

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) We can't f***ing pitch Thornton in every f***ing game. Somebody else has to step up. I'm glad we wasted all that money on Rios so we have nobody reliable in the bullpen next year. C'mon. You know that, first, lots of money will come off the books so KW won't be limited because of Rios, and, second, there won't necessarily be anybody better available. -

On Rios- No real errors, just the play that was his where Q interfered. Offensively, some numbers in his past that indcate potential. Not tearing it up at all, but not our worst performer or even remotely close since he's been here. Some hard hit balls. Maybe not a favorite, but certainly an improvement for which the Sox gave up nothing but money. Why the hatred? It's JR's money and it doesn't seem like there's anyone better on whom to spend it. Again, why the hatred? -

We need the rest of the team, as AJ does, to have their head totally in the game. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 03:52 PM) For all the Rios bashing about his offense, its hard to count how many runs hes saved on defense. Its not just the plays he has made, but Im pretty sure they are playing Dye closer to the RF line because Rios can cover more ground in the middle. I believe at least 2 balls down the line that JD barely got to would have fallen with our previous defensive alignments. Good observation. I'd not noticed, but I think you're right. -
