As we all talk/talked about Beckham learning 3rd, then 2nd, it is based on the overwhelming assumption that he knows SS. -

I know it's been beaten to death in other threads, but Ramirez played better at 2nd as a rookie. Beckham is a SS. Yet... -

On DirecTV, I can only watch the Cleveland feed. They do a good job. Not very colorful, but good insight. They like AJ and are recognizing GF getting squeezed. -

"The Lost World Series celebration Tape"
bobryansson replied to IamPabloOzuna's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I live in Colorado and had tickets for game #6 at The Cell... But I still remember how incredibly joyful it was winning the Series in 4... Wife, 3 kids all hugging and yelling and jumping... wish my dad could have been there. He'd grown up in Bridgeport, right by Nativity and lived his whole life without a Series championship. How 'bout another in 2010? Seems like 5 years is about right, not too greedy. -
I've been down to the last 3 spring training camps, but can't make it his year. That's sad.

(Where it now says "Kannapolis (low A)," it previously said "Hafta." I'd used that word in a post and it seems it was a noob thing. Thank you to whomever changed it.)

QUOTE (JoeBatterz @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) You have to go with Buehrle and not even think about it. Let Peavy have a year with the team and see him perform as a #1 and then we can discuss this again next winter. Yes. (By the way, to the board admins- Can I please get the "hafta" off my profile thing at the left? It's been over a year and I've said nothing, but it's been like a small pebble in my shoe the whole time. I thought maybe there'd be some time or number of posts required, but it seems not. Thanks!)

Andruw Jones in the Best Shape in a Decade?
bobryansson replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) Good to hear, but there seems to be a glut of positive spin Sox stories out there. Danks circulation problem...check. Linebrink ready to go...check. Jones in great shape (no need for another DH)...check. Rios's swing is perfect after five swings...check. It's all good for now, and I'm looking forward to this season, but I'm not buying into all of the hype. I'll believe the hype when translates to wins in April. I think that I heard a friend of mine tell another guy that he heard from a guy on the inside that Ozzie has been taking English and charm school lessons so that we can better understand him in his SoxFest interview. So we're good now. -
It is all about balance. There's nothing wrong with paying some extra $$$ for character and leadership. Fan favorites are favorites for a reason, some if it history and some of it the character and leadership that I mentioned before. Fan favorites also put some people in the seats and some dollars in the coffers. I like PK a lot. It's his number and name I wear to every Sox game in Chicago and Glendale and wore for every postseason game in 2005 and 2008. Balance that with the team's budget and with his skills and age, which have decreased in value over the last couple years, and then decide if it is a fit. That's KW's job, with some input from Ozzie. FWIW, I think KW, Ozzie and I both see value in PK's leadership and character. I, personally, don't think he'll price himself out of reach. At least I hope not... Paulie, are you listening?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Good, this answers the Flowers question. Get some more practice in buddy. Although I don't want us to sign a DH before ST, I'm all for that idea instead of a blockbuster deal. We have some good trading chips at the high levels and I'd hate to use them prematurely. Let's see where the weakneses are on this team during April/May and then possibly use the prospects to ensure a title push. I agree.

My dad grew up close to the park and lived his entire life between White Sox World Series championships. I was genetically a White Sox fan even though I grew up in Rockford (which is pretty Cubs-heavy). I'm in Colorado now, but my kids are still Sox fans through and through. The Rockies are fun as a distant second, though. Coors Field is beautiful. Anyway, my dad was blind so the two of us couldn't go to games until I was old enough to navigate us from the bus station downtown to the train to the park. My mom would drop us off at the bus station in Rockford and then we'd be on our own. Dad knew the city really well from growing up there. I'd guess I was, maybe, 9 or 10 and I'd read street and bus and train signs and, somehow, we always made it. I remember the first glimpse of the field. It was a night game, we came up the steps from the concourse, and the lights and the green and the colors of the uniform all just took my breath away. I stopped at the top step and my dad asked what was wrong and I tried to describe it to him. He said that it was just as good listening and smelling, that he could feel the vibrations in the stadium from the crowd and from Nancy on the organ. I don't remember the date or the opponent, but we lost. It was a moment of magic I can replay in my mind, probably 40 years later.

The article starts out talking of AJ being under consideration for the Sox' overall MVP through his 5 years here, which, of course, included his contributions to the world Series run in 2005. (I do think his getting to first on ruled-dropped third strike totally turned the Angels series in the Sox direction.) I guess I can't think of anyone who, through the whole duration, would strikingly deserve it more than AJ. Anyone disagree?

Danks and Floyd "highly unlikely" to be dealt
bobryansson replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Danks and Floyd to the Cubs for Bradley, I'm sure. -
QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) I'd welcome him back. I thought he was damn near our MVP this year. Hittin homers (?!!?), batting .300, hustling. Not the greatest outfielder but neither was Dye. But geez the idea of a blank in the 1-hole starting next season? Please God, not again... Pods at $7,500,000.00 per year for 2 years? You must be kidding,... or... something.

Garfien reports Sox might "revisit" a Thome return
bobryansson replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) If the price is right I'd welcome back Thome to DH as well. I'd sit him against lefties though and give Flowers those at bats, assuming he's here all year. I agree with all the others that agree with this. -
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Boers and Berstein are talking about how Pods wanted a 2 year 15 million dollar deal. Wow, I laughed when it was rumored $10mil over 2yrs. I seriously LOL'd at 2/15. I mean, this is America and it's good to dream, but...
