My daughter who just graduated from UI sampled almost every combination. Freshman year on campus private dorm with a HS friend Sophmore year off campus apartment with same friend Junior year apartment by herself Senior year with eight guys in a nine bedroom, six bathroom house. Three gay guys, five straight, and her. Easily the best situation for her.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) I think once some of you guys sort of find your way in your chosen professions and settle into your adult lives a little you won't miss college quite as much... I still love the classroom, which is why I went back. And after my M.A. I will either audit classes or find a PhD program that works within my schedule.
  3. The basic idea of the article is low cost of living with minimal government services and restrictions results in massive growth, which keeps building the economy.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Gosh, I'm so impressed...an article in a "magazine" locked behind a paywall. Now that's how you sell me on a state being the future! Seriously though, UT Austin finally is hiring for what I do...so yeah, i'm jumping on that ad. Interesting, I read the whole article on-line. I wonder how long they leave it up free or if it was a mistake.
  5. The state isn't as ultra-conservative as you may think. Cities like San Antonio and Austin are actually very liberal, as is almost the entire border region. There is much discussion as to when, not if, the state flips to Dem again. The usual answer is 2-5 years. I wouldn't be surprised after the next election to have a Dem governor and senator.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Why do you people not link your contacts with your Google account? I don't know how many Facebook posts I've seen where people say "new phone, text me your number". For me it means I would have 1000+ contacts, with over 900 I will never contact again. Between previous jobs and Boy Scouts Google just loads too many. Worst still is any link with Facebook.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) Even if Dunn is gone, what is the argument for having Paulie at 1B/DH over moving Viciedo there and upgrading in the OF? Loyalty. Fan favorite. Tradition. Probably not the best baseball decision.
  8. 200 replies. No wonder the media loves him
  9. Has anyone done a study on minor league rankings and post season success? I'd be interested in the years before an appearance.
  10. If you make every decision based on the average, you will get average results.
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) 14...Too soon? Yeah. Let's see 35 isn't available 79

QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Zotero. Zotero. You will forget EasyBib as mere child's play. I used it a couple years ago and it seemed much better for on line sources but mine are almost all print journals. Has it gotten better?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 28, 2013 -> 11:23 AM) Hey if some girl is finding out I only have one nut i'm already in a good spot.

Registered fall the spring semester. Grad classes are a bit more hectic for registration. Only 15 spots in one section per class. Registration opened at midnight, already ten of fifteen spots were taken.
  16. I have actually taken the time to tailor the ads I see everywhere. We'll see if it works. I've wanted to tell the ad generator that I bought a truck, so stop the Tundra, Silverado, F150, Ram 1500 ads and give me something new.
  17. I got into Lou Reed way late. In fact it was my son that turned me on to Velvet Underground. Which basically says I had no taste in music in the 1970s and a pretty cool kid who knows great rock. RIP

I am a big fan of http://www.easybib.com/ yes, I can do my own citations, but this usually makes it easier and will be even better when more people use it and more citations are added. I also enjoy living in a college town for cheap entertainment, cheap beer, and a certain vibe you can't get anywhere else.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) The vast majority of people lose massive amounts of money on health care. They pay in way more than they take out. That is the entire idea. Most of us give away money. And some cheat the system by never paying. Which if I can say is one aspect of this that I find so interesting. Liberals are demanding that people be responsible for their medical bills by having insurance. Conservatives are demanding that people be allowed to not carry insurance and receive free services. Doesn't it seem like that should be reversed?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 27, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) I see forcing someone to buy something as exactly that. If you are forced to buy something you will have it and receive the benefits from it. If you are required to give something away, you no longer have the benefit. I'm not seeing that as exactly the same. If I am forced to give you my clothing, you then have it and I don't. If you are forced to buy your own clothing, I have mine and you have yours. But we aren't talking about a $5 t-shirt. We are talking about giving away services that run into the thousands of dollars.
  21. Umpires, and the decisions they make, are as much a part of the game as anything else.
  22. Hyperbole to make my point. To argue with greg, the examples will continue to be more and more extreme. It's the only way to keep the argument going.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) I don't think I've changed a single setting in my home router (cisco valet 2nd gen) since I set it up about two years ago now. It does get reset now and then since both it and the cable modem are on a switched outlet and the modem acts up sometimes. Same here. I want it to work without me touching a thing, same as my electric, water, and tv. I don't have to shut down my main breaker and restart all my electric. I don't have to shut off my water occasionally. Just work.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) Prepare to open up the app store whenever you are facing a problem. I remember getting a package in the mail and opening up the app store to see about a knife. Yep, that happened True. I no longer can track how many days I have worn a set of contact lenses on a calendar, it takes my phone and an app.
  25. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) He was awful after 05. The fact that he just gave up a few years ago rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, Greg or no Greg. True. But I've seen it here for years, the more one or two people champion a certain unpopular point of view, the further to the other side the group gets. "He wasn't too bad" in the face of "he was pretty good" eventually becomes "he was the worst manager of all time" in reply to "Revolutionized managing". It gives us something to do.
