Reid going after the Procedural Filibuster
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) Or "HateTammy." Of course, he'd get it changed to "LoveTammy" once a year. Is that Tammy Swanson Swanson, Tammy Swanson, or Tamara Swanson?

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) Nobody's coming now! We'd be dead last in attendance. Not to mention trying to build back up to where we even are has been shown to be really tough. This is a business, the sooner you realize that the more MLB makes sense. This is the same for most things in the world.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) If that's true, (and I tend to agree with you that it is!), then it's time to unload/rebuild. Try to find "takers" for Paulie, Adam, Jake, Rios, Beckham, Floyd, Thornton, etc., and build around Sale, Quintana, Viciedo, Ramirez, DeAza, and the rest of the young pitchers. Who's coming to the games then?

Reid going after the Procedural Filibuster
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) Anything the slows down the government's ability to make laws is a good thing. Getting rid of the Filibuster would be disastrous. Ron Swanson? I figured your alias would be Lagavulin_16 or "Turf and Turf."

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) True...but, what if they'd have "replaced" DeAza with Josh Hamilton? Would that have made the Sox contenders? Josh Hamilton is not the missing piece, especially with the way he hit down the stretch last year. The Sox need major improvements from multiple players/positions or major injuries to the Tiger offense to truly hope to compete.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) If they're better, they're better. IMO AJ Pierzynski is better than Tyler Flowers and Michael Bourne is better than Alejandro DeAza. Those are the two guys for whom I advocated. That's over $20m more for next year. And it most likely won't be the difference between playoffs or not.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) You could do that pretty much up and down the remaining free agents. It doesn't mean it makes sense.. False, if the Sox aren't making moves or spending cash needlessly than they aren't getting better. Lamar is onto something, if owners have the sole purpose to put the best product out onto the field regardless of price/reason, then fans have the sole purpose to spend as much as it's required to get those players to be able to sign. See? Simple.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) There is VERY little difference between not being able to spend money and not spending money. I guess I'm in the minority here; I believe that an owner's primary responsibilty is to put the best possible team on the field that he can. Period. We did that 2 years ago, it failed. The Sox are still spending quite a bit of money, but they aren't going to ruin the business part of it in order for a crappy shot at winning for a 1-2 year period anymore. They are in it for the long haul now, to win and make money.

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 11:35 AM) Your opinion please...let's say that (for whatever reason) the Angels offered Albert Pujols to the Sox for Paul Konerko, straight up, no financial incentives. Do you think Reinsdorf would okay the deal? No, because Pujols has a ridiculous contract that only 1 team was willing to offer.

Time to revisit the 2nd Amendment?
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) What an awful world they live in, where they don't have to fear getting killed by a gun. Those slaves to the state. The founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves if they only knew that democratically elected governments would someday reduce gun violence to nothing. I do find it funny that Duke is stating posters here as worshipper's of the state, while he takes the Constitution as the end all be all for gun ownership rights.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) That it is - I got a ticket for 73 in a 55 just a week ago. That's the worst, my one ticket is a 76 in a 55, when others were going 80+ around me.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
Seriously, fans overreact way too much. This loss hurts, but it isn't the end of the world (road Big Ten games are tough no matter what). This was a team that was all but forgotten going into this year, and Groce had us at the cusp of the top 10. Go a minimum 8-10 in the Big Ten and we'll be fine.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) That's exactly how they played tonight, I agree. We're a few games like this from the target appearing on Groce. I think he's a good coach, but this team hasn't played like it for a few games now. The reason we don't get calls is we are being manhandled. We are weak and it is hard for a ref to tell the difference between a foul and us just being p*****s. Hard nosed guys like Byrd get the benefit of the doubt and we don't play like that. In general, we will struggle to win games in which there are few shooting fouls called. This is as much on the players as it is Groce, they are weak mentally and have been since BW brought them in. Groce won't have any target on him unless they lose every single game the rest of the way, he's done too well so far and has recruited very well for the position the team was in. Our inside game is awful right now, we have no one who can box out.

Didn't play well at all tonight, too many guys just disappeared or played awful (Paul, DJ and Griffey). Purdue just has our number lately it seems.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 08:07 PM) Two words: Malcolm Hill. He's gonna be a stud in college IMO. Kid scored what, 110 points in 3 games? Can't wait to see what he can do at Illinois.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) I still think Nunn and Tate were recruited based on playing together rather then their individual games. Neither has been very impressive this season. Especially when Jabari was out, neither stepped up like the should have. Not really true at all, Tate wasn't offered a scholly until after DJax turned us down.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 07:53 PM) Rebounding is going to shoot the Illini in the foot the rest of the season in a big way I think. Hopefully losing Griffey and adding another legit big guy recruit will help shore that up next year and going forward. I've got high hopes for Maverick Morgan, he's tearing it up this season.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) I saw about 30 high school games in the past week, got paid for it all, and how is Dayton recruiting Chicago talent better than Illinois? Kendall Pollard (Simeon) and Kyle Davis (Morgan Park) are both great. Pollard was really impressive. Um, better!? I've heard good things about Pollard, but Illinois got arguably two better players in Nunn and Tate (Tate is arguable, but fills a huge position of need). Groce is clearly going to make strides recruiting Chicago, we've got a pretty damn good class coming in and he did that in a short amount of time.
