  1. If we could give up a Pods and a prospect like Broadway, i would totally go for it. His numbers make him look like a leadoff candidate, he hit .302 with a .349 OBS, and a mediocre 15 SB, but he was also placed at 8th or 9th in the lineup so that he was under no pressure, I am not to sure how well he would adjust if forced into a larger role like a leadoff spot, i just dont see the sox taking him on and keeping anderson, pods, and dye, one would have to go with pods being the most likely. he has a lot of talent, but wasnt he hitting around .340 or something, and if he did and then finished at .302 i would be scared that he might be really streaky, which the sox should stay away from (personally i believe we need a guy that will consistently have a hit or two and can walk regularly) if not to much is asked for, it would be a great acquistion but def no mccarthy, sicne we will need all the arms we can within a year or two with the expiring contracts
  2. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 16, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Shoot, If I were the Mets I wouldn't even give up Pelfrey for Vazquez (I am very biased, I think Vazquez is a marginal, at best, pitcher). However, maybe they like the guy... Minaya is obsessed with Javy, so i think we could land pelfrey here, he would be ready in less than 2 years for the majors and seems to be a good pitcher in the future, add another prospect who is farther away from the majors and i would jump at this deal, like kwolf said Javy isnt all that great and to get guys like this back would be awesome and would set us up as contenders in the future with a strong pitching rotation
  3. QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) Are all those players you just listed considered to be the best players of our time. You are now comparing all those players to A-Rod. Talk about warped logic. I am done arguing with you DUDE. I have not once said that we should bring in only people that have won. This is about one player and A-Rod would take up a huge part of our budget and become the face of the team. i am pretty sure that disintegrates the chances of the sox trading forr him. his talent is great, but unless the yanks sent over around half of his contract then the sox prob wont have the money for him (just look at what they are doing to the praised rotation saying they wont go with the market price) Then the face of the team, just think about it, would Ozzie let that happen???? no way in hell, this is Ozzie's team and you would have to kill him to get it back (probably kill him by talking to much but thats beside the point) Ozzie wants this team to be his, and acts pretty immaturely towards harmless comments like Mccarthy's and just think of what he would do to ARod, that said i would love arod anytime because of his hall of fame talent but the downfalls of price, budget, and image is to great
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) The two guys we just got for Garcia are better than Tracey, Phillips, liotta, Broadway, mcullughtwhatever. The point is that we have a bunch of 3-5 type starters, which is good because some will dissappear, some will be surprises, and some will be just midd of the road, but we need those top of the line starters and danks etc would make me really happy, since we could go back to a cheaper version of the 2005 rotation within 3-4 years with guys like these like i said before "guys we had acquire" so that meant floyd or gonzalez, who i like but they both seemed to falter last year, and i would be estatic to get pelfrey and/or humber from the Mets for Vaz
  5. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Try and remember the one lesson we learned from '05: Championships are built around pitching, pitching and more pitching. People laughed at our offense going into that season - hell, I remember the comments after the Carlos Lee for Podsednik deal. But we won - because of pitching. And not only are good pitchers hard to find, but pitching prospects are more unpredictable than any other position - that is why you're smart to stock up on as many of them as you can to improve your odds. This was an opportunity to do just that. Think about this: if Buehrle can't regain his old form... if Contreras's back acts up again... it won't really matter whether we had Freddy or not. I applaud looking to the future instead of going for it all in just one season. Too many things can happen in one season. Kenny understands that. And at the end of the day, we still have enough pieces to win in '07. I am all for trading some guys like garcia for prospects, but i believe we have the depth and pieces for a run this year. If like you siad, beurhle or contreras gethurt, then one of those young guys we acquired may fill in, or we have tracey, phillips, haeger, liotta, etc to fill in some spot starts. THat 2005 team was built on pitching, so i dont see why we didnt go after a guy like danks or another top flite prospect who could lead the rotation with broadway, mccarthy, haegar, mccuollugh, etc backing them up. I understand Kenny's concern of losing Iguchi, Pods, Jermaine Dye, Mark B, (and maybe more) next offseason due to the inflated market, but if it means a playoff run this year and practically the whole first round of the draft next year then im cool, i want the Sox to compete when they have a chance, which is right now
  6. I would prefer to let Sweeney, Owens, and Fields develop for another year in the minors, and sign lofton. He proved he is still effective for a 100 games, hitting over .300 and had a ton of stolen bases. If we could get him for 1 year at 4 mill, i could see it happening. Pods is to expensive for a 4th outfielder, plus we have mack and ozuna and gload to play outfield so Pods is starting or traded. I would like to trade for a leadoff man that plays left or center but options are limited and the cost may be to great, but with the Garcia trade being so low, maybe the trade market isnt as expensive as we think
  7. "We were the only 90-win team that didn't make the playoffs this year," he said. "And we still feel like, if we'd gotten there, we had a hell of a chance. But I've got a responsibility, a responsibility not just for now but for tomorrow. And even if we win in 2007, in Chicago if we spend 2008-09-10 losing 100 games, believe me, you're the village idiot. It doesn't matter what you've done before." Thought this was weird, considering it seems like Kenny is willing for the team to go back to the streaks of finishing second in the division instead of winning a championship and sacrificing some years. Maybe it is just me, but that 2005 year was so special that I would rather have another one of those years right now and go through some redevelopment phases later than go through another streak of second place finishes without even having a chance to win a WS. I understand the need for prospects, as I felt willing to trade a starting pitcher or two to upragde the current roster, but we are built to win now, and to waste that oppurtunity seems ridiculous to me.
  8. I would much rather give up on a Garcia or Vaz to Texas, but to get a player like Michael Young would fill major holes for our team. We would lose some speed, as he only had 7 steals last year, but his line was .314/.356/.459 had over 100 RBI, over 50 doubles, and plays pretty solid defense. Maybe we could include Uribe (sicne we would have no need for him) and try and get some young pitching in return The lineup would be incredible: Young- SS Iguchi- 2B Thome- DH Konerko- 1B Dye- RF Crede- 3B AJ- C (Anderson, Owens, Sweeney, Fields, Mackowiak)- CF or LF (Anderson, Owens, Sweeney, Fields, Mackowiak)- CF or LF Plus financially it makes sense for us, the Rangers would take on around 15 mill compared to Young's 3.5 if we could get taht extra prospect in the deal then we are in a spot to compete heavily this year and give us more flexibility for years to come
  9. We should get more than this in return...Rowand was my hero with his defense and attitude, but I cringed every time he whiffed horribly (116 times) during that season and saw his offensive production take a huge dip, and what we need is bullpen depth, a upgrade at leadoff or shortstop, and some more talent in the farm system, this trade seems like a waste of an oppurtunity to address our bigger needs
  10. The shortage of pitching is no real surprise, since it seems that teams are always looking for more pitching depth, but what really is surprising me are the contracts being offered so freely to bad players. Just look at Adam Eaton, how many starts did he have last year? 13? and he has been injured frequently thruout his career...and Philly gives him a 3 year deal worth 24 mill? just insane ...this is why K DUB will wait and get the best, most desperate offer, because guys like Eaton are getting huge inflated contracts Kenny should be whipping some ass this offseason with the bargaining chips he has
  11. cant wait for some venezualen players to be signed, any time you can add depth to your farm system without costing players or ridiculous money its a good move, if anything he could be trade bait later
  12. I would prefer to trade Vazquez for Mike Pelfrey, atleast as a core for a trade, Pelfrey has loads of talent and seemed to be breezing through the minors, plus vasquez was never very high in my book Out of all of our starters Javy is the easiest to give up on in my mind, and I believe that we should still do a Garcia for Santana + Aybar core deal, I dont want to trade Crede this year since we have him under control for 2 more years and i believe fields isnt quite ready yet but will be with another year of polishing, plus aybar is crazy talented and they have brandon wood ahead of him so they could be willing to let aybar go---> but we may have to give something else up for that deal to happen since both are highly touted by a lot of teams
  13. I could see ARod putting up huge numbers for us with a bit less pressure on him, plus i really would like him at shortstop not thrid base. For all you Fields haters, he has a great future and his defense has improved mightily. His offensive potential is ridiculous, and the only downfall i see with him is that he has only focused on baseball for the past few years- and this prob is more of an upside since he has been so good so far, and just needs maybe one year down at AAA to be fully ready. If we could get this trade, by all means go for it. But Crede is still improving every year and with him under control for 2 more years the sox wont be pressed to trade him yet, and we should get something great for Garcia with the market like it is. Personally, I believe that this rumor is only a rumor, and will not happen.
  14. well, i dont know to much about their prospects, or who they have to offer, but like i said its a start to a trade maybe
  15. How about Beurhle and Uribe for Eckstein and Wainright? We really need that proven leadoff man, which Eckstein fills nicely, plus he's a great guy who hustles everyday and seems to have an impact on the whole team. Beurhle will be a free agent and would most likey want to sign wither with us or the Cards, so why not get something back in return? Wainwright seems to me to have some good stuff and we would have him under contract for a long time. It seems pretty fair to me, but I dont know if the Cards would go for it, but with todays market for pitching and their need for it maybe it would work. Other players may be included to, this is just basically a core for a trade. Thoughts?
