Rogowski! How was his year in charlotte? and if it was good is he ready to contribute at all at the big league level?
-
I'm not even going to put down RBIs .312 avg, 35 runs, 8 sb
-
.286 18 hrs 79 rbi i hope he can make up for Pods if he struggles again, it always seemed to me that guch hit much better with pods on base, but i could be wrong
-
Many good points in this article, and for all of those people who keep saying that the White Sox are playing as a small market team just be quiet, there payroll will still be around a 100 mill which should be going farther than it is now but thx to the cubs and giants it seems much smaller than it is

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Floyd wouldn't be anywhere near our rotation if he's going to put up an ERA close to 6. Hopefully the Sox can turn him around like they have with numerous other pitchers, otherwise Haegar gets the job and Gavin starts the year in AAA. I'd at least give Floyd a chance to show what he can do for us, before writing him off though. A lot of people were doing that with Thornton when we acquired him, calling him a guy with absolutely no control. The Sox are doin anything but writing Floyd off for the 5th spot, its basically his to lose from the comments that coop has made, and KW seems to also be very high on him, i havent heard to much on what they think about Haeger, so for some reason i dont think he'll be on the roster come opening day, but i do see him making a huge contribution later in the season if one of the starters struggles or gets injured

I believe that the Sox will probably offer a good deal to MB, but not the outrageous types being handed out to mediocre pitchers, he'll walk from us and the Cards and land a deal like Zito most likely, and really i cant argue with that descision if he goes in that direction, if you were in his shoes, wouldnt you accept the most money to support your family for the future? the only reason i see him staying is if he has another down year and the offer from other teams really isnt that much better than the Sox's plus, with all of these young guys with such large ceilings we may just find a guy who surprises everbody and replaces him with pretty good numbers (and about 15 mill or more cheaper) and then we could use that money on deals like the one we gave to JD a couple of years back, anyone remember the Mags fiasco? i believe we came out on top on that one

I dont see Konerko having enough power in his later years or the endurance to keep going for 500 hrs, that said i expect him to be a good power hitter until he is 34 or 35 years old when his body will breakdown (not that i want it to because he is such a classy guy) .301 44 HR 111RBI good-great player, not HOF material in my eyes

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) LF Jerry Owens 2B Pedro Lopez RF Ryan Sweeney DH Josh Fields 1B Casey Rogowski CF Brian Anderson 3B Micah Schnurstein C Chris Stewart SS Robert Valido is this for Charlotte?
-
If i was KW, I will take the same approach with MB as he did with Konerko, make him deliver that season, and honor him if he does, or if he falters again then offer him a fair contract (which would still be bloated by this market), of course there is the risk of him signing elsewhere, but signing him now is a risk that we could get stuck with a huge contract and a player who lost the ability to get guys out. I would wait and sign him later
-
Baldelli would command more than that, the DRays are trying to make a statement lately that they wont trade their talent unless there is a huge deal in their favor, they want some young major league ready players not just prospects now, they finally have the hitting to win now and realize that keeping all of the guys longterm will be tricky and expensive so young starting pitching like BMAc is wat they are after... visquel isnt even worth those two guys, id have rather signed Alex Gonzalez, visquel doesnt really fit into our plans of building for now and the future by trading a possible leadoff man for a 50 yearold vet Pods Iguchi Thome Konerko Dye Crede AJ Cintron Anderson Uribe will start depending on the court matters, i just dont see KW dealing alot more right now, but i can see him making a minor move for the bench or something like that again
-
THis prediction is hard for me, since nobody really knows how ozzie will use hall, only vs lefties in place of AJ, or also parttime in the DH role, but he has had great success against righties so ill go with: .280 avg, 11 HR, 34 RBIs

QUOTE(U can putitontheboarrrrd...YES @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) Any chance the sox would want to pickup someone like Ronnie Belliard and try him out at SS just in case Juan doesnt play? i dont see the sox spending a lot of money on the free agent market now, there just inst enough talent out there to justify the money needed to sign the guys that said, i would love a deal to get erick aybar from the Angels for some young guys that we can afford to lose, maybe a broadway and some other prospects, Aybar is stuck behind cabrera and brandon wood so maybe KW could find a fit with them now anybody know about other prospect shortstops ready to play in the bigs?
-
Haeger is def underrated, with some more work and training he could turn into a very dependable pitcher who has a chance to rack up a ton of wins, I would almost rather see him than Floyd in our rotation next year, but i do worry about Hall and AJ dealing with the knuckler
-
Uribe hasnt been effective the past couple of years in hte lineup, but his defense has been amazing. Without him the sox will have a harder time competing unless they make another move to replace him since cintrons defense isnt close to his. THe system seems pretty bare right now with a replacement for him, maybe we can pry a shortstop from the Angels?
-
Steps to Success 1) Trade Buerhle to mets for pelfrey, humber, milledge, and maybe a throw in like wright or reyes 2)Sign Weaver, trade him for his brother and Howie Kendrick with another throw in like E. Santana 3) Trade Pods and our sucky Class A teams to Tampa for Rocko and Crawford 4)WHite Sox= WS champs for next 5 years

QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) I am glad you like the bullpen. I think you are going to be seeing a lot of it. Face it, Buehrle is a pitcher who relies on his control. He doesn't blow anyone away with speed. And there were some stretches last year he wasn't doing that; stretches like the one from the all-star game to the end of the season. If Kenny could have sold him, he would have. The problem is that there were not as many GMs in the league as enthusiastic about Mark Buehrle as you might suspect. What I don't get is that if you are going to deal McCarthy, why not do it last year when you could have gotten a guy that might have won you the pennant. I had to sit and listen to how McCarthy was untouchable last season. How he was the next ace of the staff. I tell ya what, from where I was sitting, he didn't look like the next Cy Young to me. and if u went thru with that trade for soriano, u would be arguing how the sox let go of a guy with a good future for half a season of another guy, plus u only got 2 picks in return for him and who knows, maybe you he wouldnt have helped that much anyways, i would much rather have BMac than Soriano (from that trade atleast) and i have faith in KW to bring another championship contending team to the field this year

haha sry Rock, didnt even see u put that future rotation up, and its the same!

2009 rotation Danks Floyd Gonzalez Broadway Haeger (Not Necessarily in that order) That looks pretty solid to me, with guys not making it and other guys unexpectedly coming around, i think we would have a rotation pretty close to this (Floyd prob most likely not to make it tho) Our bullpen will only get stronger until then, as they are all young and good hard throwers basically Kenny set us up for a monster pitching staff, and maybe he believes he can trade some excess pitching that we'll probably have for some good position players LF---- Owens CF--- Anderson RF--- Sweeney SS--- A. Gonzalez (or Robert Valido) 2B--- Pedro Lopez 3B--- Fields 1B--- Rogowski DH--- Konerko not to bad of a lineup there, with only ss and 2b looking weak to me (owens will be better than pods, jsut give him some time, hes actually really athletic and just started focusing on baseball full time a couple of years ago) but this looks like a minnesota lineup to me, and how many WS have they won recently?
-
Danks and Masset will be good, but the farm system is so empty with position players that we can not afford to sacrifice 2007 for the future, i like what we have gotten in return (even tho we should get more, like hurley) but besides fields and sweeney, the system just doesnt have alot to offer if K-Dub wants to compete after 07, he is going to need players with Dye, Iguchi type of production since they may be leaving, and who syays replacements from FA will pan out or cost much cheaper. I know we need pitching, and Kenny might be looking at a Minnesota type future with lots of young guys who just play really well, but how many playoffs series have they won? I want the Sox to be able to compete for the division, or wildcard spot, but i want them to be able to win a championship too PS--- THx alot Cubbies, f***ers messed this f***ing market up

Heath Phillips! Our savior finally has a chance to start for us!

QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) If you don't like Wilson, then come up with a better alternative. If KW doesn't address this HUGE HOLE, I'll be very disappointed. im sure K-Dub will find another steal like the sisco deal, hes great at those and im sure he knows that the bench is pretty heavy lefthanded, look for inhouse solutions (even tho i would prefer to keep them at AAA for more ABs) or a small trade that will add the necessary player BUT THE MAIN KEY TO SUCCESS RELIES ON THE STARTING PITCHING AND THE BULLPEN, we scored plenty of runs last year (atleast compared to 05) and the pitching really let us down, we need Beurhle, Contreras, and Javy to step it up and pitch consistently (good not consistently bad), if more guys step up like Thorton in the 'pen we will be just fine

QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) Trade for Melky Cabrera, switch hitter who can play all three outfield positions. um your talking young pitching for him, we dont have that much depth and kenny is trying to stockpile it, not saying i dont want melky but its probably not going to happen
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) It's really not of concern. There's dead weight on the 40-man. Sean Tracey, Dewon Day, Paulino Reynoso, Pedro Lopez, Andy Gonzalez, Casey Rogowski. None are likely to ever make an impact on the big league roster. If the Sox want to upgrade, they'll have no problem letting one of these go... im pretty sure that some of those guys will turn out to be decent big leaguers, atleast tracey and rogowski seem to be promising, but tracey and ozzie had those fudes and we have PK and Thome ahead of Rogo, so he might not have a future with the team (i dont know how many years he has left in the minors) so i wouldnt mind seeing them traded for some prospects at positions that will be open later on, for example second base, the pirates seem to be shopping this kid around who seems to have a good future but is stuck behind freddie gonzalez, instead of dumping these guys i wouldnt mind trading a couple for guys that could actually help fill holes for us later on

QUOTE(forrestg @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) Matt thornton did well as a starter in the minors pitching 28 inning with 35 strikeouts allowing only 8 walks.. Seattle never started him although they were desperate for starters. it was stated in a Mark gonzales article that he would like the opportunity.I would love to start again. They're having a heck of a time getting [brandon] McCarthy in the rotation right now. He had a great career as a starter in the minors. That's something I don't worry about. If they came to me down the road to see if [i'd] want to start, I'd be more than willing. I'd love to. ... I threw about 28 innings [in the minors], struck out 35 and walked eight, but I never got a start in the majors again. It blew my mind, especially with the way their starters [seattle's] struggled." Maybe the #5 starter isn't a lock for Brandon. Have we seen all the contenders does Matt have enough? i dont see him starting this year, since we are pretty well set up as of now, if we made a move with a starting pitcher and got some great bullpen relief in return, then he might have a shot, otherwise i see him having a chance in 2008 or beyond to start, but his performance from the 'pen was amzing last year and his velocity has been better out of there anyways so look at him more as a setup man than starter

The Sox seem to need another bench player who could fill in if Anderson and co. fail to produce or get injured, and i was looking at an mlb.com article and it mentioned how Bernie Williams would be available if the Yanks keep Melky Cabrera, and immediately i was intrigued since its Bernie, but i doubted his stats from last year, well he hit .281, with 12 homers in 420 ABs, and committed only one error, i know he is aging and his defense prob isnt great or even above average now, but he would bring experience and a dependable batter onto the bench, plus maybe some swagger that i thought the team was missing last year, if he would come at a reasonable price i think the sox should atleast consider him over Owens or terrero
