For those who don't know Scott Schoenweis has gone on the 15-day DL with inflamation of the elbow. This was always the risk with both E-LO & SS given their history. That will effectively push SS into the 2nd 1/2 for the next start. Hopefully Diaz can hold down the fort until then. Cotts is pitching well, & Vic D made a couple of appearances of late. He cost the SOX 1.4 mil so hopefully he can fill Wunsh's shoes. Jamie Burke has been a nice breathe of fresh air. I'm glad the Koch trade afforded us to keep in on. SOMEONE PLEASE TEACH THESE BAFFOONS HOW TO CALL FOR THE BALL !!! Dump :puke Jackson at the Amtrak station. Please.

I'll stick with the current scoring system in the 2nd half. It takes more time & effort to tabulate +/- so it's not worth it. But I'm not ignoring negative play altogether. Jon Garland blew his chance for a win in that Marlin game & that one play cost him the Arm of the Game. It was pitching a nice ball game up to that point & even though his 27 score over 7 ip, is worthy of an AoG he lost it on that play. I'm going to do the same thing for hitters as well. If you make bone-head dumb F errors in the field that cost the team runs & leads I don't care if you score 200 pts in a night you are going to lose the award!

OZZIE is hilarious! Before the game they asked him what do you hope for from Rauch today. The Oz said I hope he shows up before the game & I hope he sticks around for the game. OZ is never going to let Jon live that down

Clinton is famous for saying "It's the economy stupid". Well I don't have to tell you that IT workers make up a pretty big part of that economy. Fact: IDC survey suggests that by 2007, 23% of the IT workload will be overseas. Up from 5% in 2003. Bush: Doesn't favor legislation to protect jobs but does favor establishing a permanent R&D tax credit for businesses who employ Americans in R&D jobs. Kerry: Doesn't favor legislation to protect jobs. Believes that govt should seek American workers over foreign workers whenever possible. Companies should have to notify customers when they ship call centers overseas. I think it's clear which president might actually do something to stem the tide.

I hear this argument all the time in terms of democracy & it so short-sighted. In terms of women's sufferage it was their right to peaceful protest that brought the injustice to the minds of the majority & turn the tide. It helped that war killed off part of the male population but the fact remains is that this movement is a clear sign of democracy in action. The same can be said about civil rights for blacks. Protests raised awareness & turn the tide of the majority. How did this happen? Because the majority of the nation believed in God given inalienable rights but never thought about which persons in America were not being honored by those rights. The protests brought the awareness to the nation & the movement spread like wild-fire because the majority understood the injustice & accepted the cause. In both these cases the extension or justification of rights for a group of people did not overtly threaten any rights of the majority. These cases are about groups being accepted into the majority. That happened through awareness & support. The legislation was a foregone conclusion once the movement had taken hold. In otherwords by the time govt weighed in on the subject, the majority had already supported the decision. That is in stark contrast to Roe v Wade, & the other activist rulings that led to God being taken out of the schools. There was no activist movement. There was simply a group of people dictating policy to America. With respect to the death penalty again the majority of Americans are in favor of it. I know it's hyprocritical with respect to pro-life but they see the victims of crime much more so than the cause itself.

Who's good conscience? Yours? God forbid if any president should appoint judges that might actually reflect the majority opinion of the nation. God forbid if democracy should actually have a voice amongst freedom. On every one of those issues the majority of Americans side with Bush. Of all of them abortion remains the biggest social issue in the country today. The majority of Americans do not favor abortion on demand as it exists in the nation today. The majority of Americans are appauled that abortion is a multi-billion dollar market in the nation today. The majority of Americans favor a ban against partial birth abortions. Basically you're argument comes down to this: A vote for Bush is a vote for democracy A vote for Kerry is a vote against democracy You decide. I tend to favor democracy when I vote & I do agree that the next term is an important one in that regards.

As an avid SOX fan it's hard to do the evaluations when they play so poorly. I still have no idea why KW continues to keep Politte & Jackson on the team. Koch makes them look good. The nice thing about the evaluation system is that it makes use of the game log data so I can do it any time. When they place this bad, this is the last place I want to be. I am surrounded by cub fans so this because my slient period of the season. :puke

When I mentioned it won't go away, I meant in the media. Doh! Two things I want to address. Some of you refuse to accept that the NT takes greater precedence than the OT. That's fine many people like to ignore reality so why should this be any different for religious reality? There are passages in the NT from Jesus himself that refute passages in the OT. It's a fact. Jesus takes greater precedence over any other figure in the Bible. That's also a fact. Passages relating to Jesus clearly define marriage between one woman & one man. Those of you who keep referring to St. Paul in the Bible as declaring marriage between non-believers, or marriage amongst polygamists is simply wrong. He never says that. He says it is best for believers to not marry non-believers & he clearly indicates that marriage is between one man & one woman. He does not encourage marriage in any sense because he does not believe it is helpful to serve two masters. Okay now that the ridiculous references to the Bible are put away, let's get down to the real heart of the matter. What is democracy? Simply put it's majority rules. It means the majority has the right to define what is & what is not acceptable in society. What is freedom? Simply put it's minority rules. It means the the minority right has the right to define for themselves what is & what is not acceptable in society. In the US we respect both democracy & freedom. Taken to the extreme on either side they can not co-exist. Therefore there co-existence is dependent on compromise. You may not like it, you may think it's unjustified .. but that's the reality of the relationship between the two. With respect to gay marriage democracy says no & freedom says yes. That's basically where the issue stands. In the US since we believe strongly in both a compromise is required. That compromise is civil unions. It doesn't mean that it's an end all & it doesn't mean the debate ends. It simply means at this time it's the best compromise on the issue. The debate continues, facts get collected over time & both sides continue to battle the issue. That's this history of this great nation & wish we could turn back to those times. Unfortunately we live in an America today where compromise is no longer the norm but the exception. Everything is so polar. Each side has to be 100% right all of the time. It's ridiculous & this thread is an example of that. When I published the facts I read in the paper that were recently published I focused on one very sad notice: only one state had moved towards civil union. Yet, as I looked at all the comments following that post not one bothered to make reference to it. Instead we had the polarized debate take off again. So in a micro sense this thread is a slice of America itself. Our culture was rooted in compromise wrapped in capitalism. Now it's become polarized. Neither side willing to bend because they have to be right all the time. The mere implication that someone might have a better idea no matter how weird it seems at the time is no longer accepted or desired. The nation could learn a thing or two by studying Vermont.

This issue just won't go away. It's like an infestation or virus. I was reading on Law.com about some new stats, studies, & challenges that definitely make this a major issue on the Nov election ballot: - 37 states have passed a DOMA or like IL have a law that restricts marriage to the union of a man & a woman. Ohio was the latest to pass one shortly after Judge in MA declared it legal in that state. MA is the only state in which a judge has made a definitive ruling that the state's constitution does not prevent same sex marriages. - The mayor of SF is issuing marriage licenses to gays, but the state of CA is not recognizing them. On a recent proposition by CA voters 61% are against gay marriage. - Vermont is the only state that has passed a civil union law. But that law pertains only to same sex couples. It's not general to where it extends beyond sexual relationships. - Nation-wide better than 67% of Americans polled are against gay marriages. The number one reason is that they view it an immoral. - Most states have 400 benefits & privledges for married couples & the Fed has about 1000. Personally I'm in support of civil unions because I feel it's the decision that best respects democracy & justice. Since the majority of Americans view marriage as something that is both highly sacred & moral I don't think the govt should dictate a re-definition of that. The majority of Americans still consider gay & lebian lifestyles as degenerate & immoral. So I accept the need for married persons to want to separate themselves in this distinction. On the other side I believe there is injustice not just for gays & lesbians but all persons who seek to form civil unions that may or may not have anything to do with sexual relations. So that's why I believe civil unions should be defined as broad as possible so that the injustice ends w/out the need to challenge the moral opinions of the majority. In the near future I think the liberal acceptance of gays will be challenged both by science & technology. There are studies going on in the UK & the USA researching the impact of chemical inbalance during the pregnancy toward not just sexual preference but gender behavior. There is data being compiled on 1000's of cases of gays unhappy with their childhood or lack of manhood because of their upbringing. Presently there is not enough data to conclude anything one way or the other. But that will change over the next 5-10 yrs. The reason I believe that it will become more difficult is because the world is moving slowly towards a state represented in the movie GATTACCA. The premise for this movie is that mankind has an obligation to strive for genetic perfection. In that world gays will not be accepted. It's kind of scary because what Hitler tried to accomplish by force & failed capitalism will succeed. Instead of primitive ethnic cleansing we'll have genetic cleansing.

Something to be said about the Lefty, Righty matchups on the SOX: CWS vs LH: 941 OPS, 778 OPS vs CWS vs RH:797 OPS, 745 OPS vs NYY vs LH: 871 OPS, 730 OPS vs NYY vs RH: 790 OPS, 730 OPS vs BOS vs LH: 801 OPS, 723 OPS vs BOS vs RH: 809 OPS, 702 OPS vs OAK vs LH: 786 OPS, 793 OPS vs OAK vs RH: 790 OPS, 705 OPS vs MIN vs LH: 739 OPS, 731 OPS vs MIN vs RH: 761 OPS, 759 OPS vs ANA vs LH: 732 OPS, 759 OPS vs ANA vs RH: 771 OPS, 751 OPS vs Among contenders we are #2 vs RH, & #1 vs LH. I would say that places a greater emphasis on pitching & defense in trade talk. We are now the weakest pitching-wise amongst contenders.

Mr Cub fan, Thank you for kind words at depicting me as the best pitcher on my former team the CWS. Though I always felt Mark Buehrle deserved that honor I won't argue with you. You are after all a Cub fan. I look forward to competing against your team no less than 6 times in Sept & hope that I can live up to your billing of me. I know my former CWS fans will be rooting for me. Sincerely, Willaim Koch -
The Marlins face the cub 6 times in Sept. Billy make us proud!

As long as we have EL CABELLO who just loves to BASH the cubs on the field, I have no doubt we will win the Chi-Town series again. Lee's contract of 15/2 is worth it for that glory alone. -
A cub fan that lives near me brought this up. As you know Wood is going to come off the DL before the break. That leaves Rusch the odd man out. This cub fan covets Adkins or Cotts. He proposes a straight up deal. Rusch for Adkins or Cotts plus ml. Should the SOX take a chance on this? Is this fan asking too much or too little? IMHO it's a tough one to call. Rusch was drafted as a high prospect & I believe was even #1 in the Mets org at one time. But is past history is a downer. Money wise he's a very low risk & a LH. The cub fan obviously is looking to shore up their bullpen.
