I just wondered because my sister had a couple of surgeries on her hip and has had repeated foot problems.

I agree 110% with all replies in this thread. I just thought it was my lack of impartial vision in regards to Konerko and firstbasemen in general that was making me something that was not there. I, too, wish Konerko could stay away from the injury bug for a full year to see what he is truely capable of producing. I have been wondering what is causing Konerko's repetative foot injuries, I wonder if his hip disorder and the foot injuries are related.

The subject of firstbasemen (and in specific PK) came up on another board. I have a few questions for people on this board to see what the opinion is here. On the other board, the going theory (thought, what ever the f*** you want to call it) was that Konerko is a below average firstbaseman - defensively and offensively. Another going theory there is that defense is meaningless for a firstbaseman. Here are my questions for all of you: 1) How important is defensive ability for a firstbaseman? 2) What is your opinion on Konerko and his recently signed contract? I wanted to get other opinions because I know I am a big fan of Konerko and because of that, I can't be impartial. In regards to question one, I think defense for a firstbaseman is important because of guarding the line and being able to dig out rushed (or just bad) throws from the shortstop and thirdbaseman. Also, a firstbaseman, IMO, needs a good arm (strength and aim) to pull off double plays and to throw out someone at home.

Pauly was also playing with at least one injury (possibly two depending on how accurate reports were that were in the media). I just wish he could stay healthy for an entire year, it seems like he either is injured in the beginning of the year (foot in 2000, hand in 2001) or at the end (2002). I think roman just has it in for PK because PK and Thomas play the same positions. (Please keep in mind I am not say PK is the greatest, but he isn't as bad as some Sox fans make him out to be.)

Where exactly would you put Giambi if we got him? Konerko is locked up in his 3 yr deal and if Thomas comes back, the DH position is covered. Since Maggs is covered by contract, wouldn't the Yanks have to talk to KW, not Maggs (not that having to speak to KW makes me feel better)?

It looks like all the good people are here - cwsox, hsc, psycho, both zachs... when will Corg show up? I probably missed someone, but it is great to have the gang all here and on a board where I can post more than one message an hr (one of the reasons I don't post all that often at the mlb site).

My Lord, that sounds about as ridiculous as ridiculous can get on a message board. I remember BigFrank77, he was rather vulgar, crude and had a poor handle on the English language. I hope Corg posts it, I could use a good laugh.

What was the story behind that one - I've seen snippits of it at the "other" site, but never did find out what that was all about...

The Ottawa Senators have a defenseman (I think that's his position) who is 7'1 - he's a really good for such a tall guy, but his height has caused him some problems.
