Dunn not in the best shape of his life

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:19 PM) Yeah by that logic I should go ahead and pay the rent & electric bills for a couple kids, fill their cupboards too, just because I disagree with the way their crackhead parents choose to spend their money. Right. Brilliant logic here. So now you're comparing the White Sox front office and brain trust to crackhead parents. That makes perfect sense. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) Who in the hell would pay Glen Perkins $50 million? $50 mill may have been too much, but the point remains. He has been an absolutely dynamite reliever the last 3 years.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) I think you can reasonably assume that owners of one team with extra $$$ in their pockets don't cut checks to their rivals just because they can. Head, take it out of the sand. The only way anyone wants Dunn is if he's good, looks useful, and the only way anyone takes on ANY salary is because it would save them from giving up a prospect. Which is why I mentioned Belisario & Boggs, Paulino as well, we signed those guys because we did NOT want the savings (we could have put Rienzo and Webb in the pen, maybe Petricka too), we signed them because we want to flip a vet for a prospect. So if some team thought Dunn was worth $2-3M in savings of a halfway decent spect the Sox would want the spect. They added $1M to the Texas deal just to get Leury. They signed them because they feel those players help the Sox to compete this year. You continue to trumpet the idea that the Sox have known all along that they have no intentions of competing, and while they may not be the favorite, they absolutely will do everything in their power to compete. We did not believe they would be competitive in 2008, 2010, or 2012 and they went out and were competitive to the very end on all 3 of those seasons. And there will certainly be teams interested in taking on some money to have Dunn in their lineup the last 2 months. At the time he was traded, Soriano was hitting .254/.287/.467/.754. Dunn will almost certainly be hitting at or above that level. People also understand that his value comes against RHP, and with no commitment into next year, they will be far more willing to include some money. Desperation increases the amount that you are willing to pay for a service or good, which is how a typically conservative ownership group headed by Jerry Reinsdorf paid $4 million for 1 month of Manny Ramirez. At this juncture, you are virtually the only person on this entire board who believes the right move is to release Dunn prior to opening day. If there is a right/wrong, that should tell you everything you need to know. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) On the other hand, paying him $15 million to play like he's played is giving $15 million away anyway. I don't agree with releasing him, but I doubt he suddenly becomes the hitter the Sox thought they were getting this season. 2 out of the 3 seasons he's been with the team, he has been a negative WAR. If you think he's going to do that again and you have to pay him anyway, paying $15 million for a zero WAR is better than paying $15 million for one less than that. I don't necessarily disagree, nor have I ever disagreed with this, but there's no reason not to try and save some money. That means it's going to roll all the way into September and personally, I don't see any way Dunn is on the White Sox come September 1st. The guy does hit righties pretty well still and he can be relatively cheap at that point in the year. Why eat $15 million if you can even save $1.5 or $2 or $3 mill or whatever? By all accounts he's great in the clubhouse, they are going to need him if they are going to compete at all, and they'll likely end up saving some money at the end of the day anyways. There is absolutely 0 point in releasing him. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) LOL, brain power still didnt come back for you huh? The fact you think they can "dump" Adam Dunn just like that is hilarious to me. Can you please explain how the White Sox or any professional baseball team could just "dump" a player like Adam Dunn. He is going to say "Easy. Release him." because that's easy and teams are often so willing to simply just give away $15 million. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) Prove it. Are you trying to take away Oldsox's power to an opinion? Then you are taking away his freedom of speech. Unless there is something doing that, then I have no need. -

TUC sounds like he's a little sore from so many people pointing out that he's wrong. Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I guess that makes me insane for thinking that logic will prevail in this instance. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Maybe you should get a new friend. I have chosen my friends in life well, but thanks for your opinion. I have considered it and do not agree with it. -

All I want to add is that I love this board and can't wait for AFD to hit 80 homers this year. I'm friends with a Reds fan, and the only two things he likes about the Sox are Hawk (HE GONE) and Donkey. Boyzzz -
QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) Word is that Perkins came to the Twins and offered these numbers. What a nice guy. That's upper midwest generosity. What does he need $50 million for? He can get by perfectly fine on $20 mill, and he could certainly make more after that too.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) If he really isn't in shape, Sox should start season with Dunn on the DL. Can't keep him there forever, I know, but I'd rather see Tank or JDanks get extra AB's. Anybody, really. Not going to happen. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) I could get a direct quote from someone I know within the org and he wouldnt get it. Some people just ignore actual facts. I've gotten the impression all along that the Sox have wanted to move him and that frankly, even if he is good in the clubhouse, he wants to move on too. It's not that simple. He's going to be a good American and try his damnedest to be a good employee. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) Danks > Mitchell, Walker, Thompson, etc. ATM because he's the only one currently good enough to even play at AAA, much less in the Major Leagues. Jordan Danks has become a solid 4th OF candidate, cheap, under control, lefty stick, a little pop & experience. He's a potential piece for 2-3 years just as he is, until he hits his 2nd arb year. Dunn's future value here is nothing, and he's not bringing back anything either later on. Jordan Danks is a better piece for us than Dunn. All f***in day. Now I see I know exactly when you're trying to do. You think I'm some troll, like some big dumb monkey at the zoo. And you're standing there behind the glass pounding your chest laughing, thinking I'm going to go all apes*** and run around angry and fuming until eventually I either run out of energy and go lay down and go to sleep or some trainer comes in and pops me with a dart. But that's only half true, and when you eventually succeed in your goal of getting me to quit posting it just happens because I have to do that anyway & not because you've really done something special by egging me on. And now I'm going to go throw my s*** around but just you wait wite I'm not done with you OR Dunn yet. That motherf***er is going to get cut if I have my say in this here & knowing how Hahn reads my posts & takes me advice I know this is going to happen and if it doesn't goddamnit I'm going to find that guy and put rocks in his f***in pancakes. Except that you don't have a say, you aren't a gorilla, you aren't going to throw [actual] s***, and Dunn isn't going to get cut. Please don't put rocks in his pancakes though, Tim Raines used enough rocks for the entire franchise. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) Young and Houston were 12th and 19th in PFF's pass rushing productivity, respectively out of 37 4-3 DE that played half or more of their team's snaps. It's kind of like eFG% in basketball, where it is (disruptions/passing snaps), but with added weight for QB hits and sacks. Houston and Young have very high rates of hurries (top 5 in NFL) but converted less often on hits and sacks. That doesn't necessarily mean you could stick them on Team X and they would do the same thing. PFF's ratings aren't like WAR, which tries to capture a player's true contribution, independent of external factors like luck, ballpark, teammates, etc. That's much harder to do with football. It is descriptive of how productive a player was. Within that system, and with the players surrounding him. Mark Anderson killed it with the Patriots. Went to the Bills, in a simlilar style of play, and absolutely bombed. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Because then you are forced to dump a more valuable piece. This isn't rocket surgery here. Dunn's so f***ing bad that if there's even a legitimate 4th OF prospect behind him like Jordan Danks it's a block. But he's blocking PT from ADA & DV. And it's because the Sox are being stubborn and idiotic OR it's because they're aware of all of this & are only waiting to the end of ST to cut him, hoping someone comes along with either a proper return for ADA/DV or will give them a few scraps for Dunn. Jordan Danks has no value. The value of nothing can never be greater than the value of nothing. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) Oh and this too. I posted all kinds of stats in other threads but you just ask me to post them again. Balta even tried to get to me to ignore 1/3 of Dunn's Sox tenure and ADA's first half season, trying to compare the two, and I did that, which was obviously totally unfair, and statistically ADA still kicked his ass. I don't even care. Baseball reference is your best friend. Oh, and you tried to comp him to Thome and Thome at the end of his career also kicked his ass & no one wanted him, and the Sox passed at $1M while the Twins got him for a little over $2M IIRC. And Thome's numbers beat the s*** out of Dunn. The truth is that Dunn has been soooo f***ing abysmal that there is absolutely no way anyone can look at his Sox numbers and make an arugment that he should be playing over any younger piece which could be part of the future or be traded for a piece of the future. Even a s***ty ADA or DV brings back more & the only reason you treade either of those guys more would be because the FO thinks they're just going to get worse this season. You don't trade either of those guys for Dunn. I disagree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) Come back to the right side SS2k5 I'm much happier agreeing with you. Same to your wite, just admit it, we're all better off if Dunn is just gone. You bought a microwave that cooks too hot for $150. You hang on to it, because you need a microwave and it's yours already. You know you can put up with it for another 6 months or so. Suddenly, someone is willing to give you $30 because "screw it, a microwave that cooks to hot is better than no microwave at all." You want to get a new microwave, or you've learned how to cook, or whatever other lazy analogy you want to come up with. Multiply this by 100,000, and it's the exact same scenario. If you already have it, you may as well keep it. Again, yelling on Soxtalk is going to do nothing to make the Sox get rid of him or whatever, and most of us here happen to like Dunn, appreciate the work he puts it, realize he has been a disappointment as a free agent, but want to get something - even saving money - out of him. There is a some value there. You are pretty much steering your own boat here bud. At some point in time, rather than a leader or a voice of reason, you become the crazy bearded dude on the corner yelling about Jesus. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) Great so if he's a platoon option then maybe the Sox would only have to eat 85% of that deal & can save a little over $2M. Excellent. Even better. Cubs got a better prospect than anything I'd hope for Dunn, so maybe we could even get a guy with a pulse. If so, wonderful, just absolutely wonderful. You know you have a strong argument when all you get in response consistently is a compete overlooking of facts, stats, truth, etc. and pictures of Steve Martin & tweets from SS2k5. Sorry, I am having a hard time finding these facts you are using. Pointing out that Adam Dunn has a beard, is left handed, was an investor in the Dallas Buyer's Club, and strike out are facts I am already aware of. Please, inform me of these facts that prove he is a bad hitter. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) Because Soriano is still somewhat useful and Z was an Ozzie project. Cubs still ate about $39M of the $46M remaining and they'd been trying to do this deal for a long time. Cubs ate $15.5M of the $18M owed to him. In total the Cubs ate about 85% of Soriano's deal and 86% of Zambrano's deal. If the Sox ate 85% of Dunn's deal they'd eat $12.75M leaving the acquiring team paying $2.25M. Which is probably a little much for Dunn, maybe $1.5M is more likely, meaning the Sox would eat 90%, 4% more than Z and 5% more than Zambrano. So yeah you win nothing and your candy s*** I will have you know mixes very poorly with overrated imported beer. And Morgan Freeman doesn't drink that crap, he drinks Miller High Life Light with me & reads me stories while I drift off to sleep. Adam Dunn hits right handed pitching. He's useless to you because you fail to understand that point, which really makes me question whether or not you had a bad encounter with Adam Dunn at some point in your life and this is your idea of getting back at him when in reality, he's never going to see this. Your best bet is to go to the stadium and boo him, which plenty of other people already do, and then he hits a home run and gives the Sox a lead only to see Lindstrom give it up in the 8th and then Konerko or Viciedo or whoever strikes out in the 9th to end the game. Steve Martin is ironing a f***ing cat. Your argument is still invalid. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) Any thoughts on what division race will be the most compelling to watch this season? My money's on the AL West with 3 legit contenders and the Mariners, who won't suck either. AL East. Every single team in that division can win or finish last.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 13, 2014 -> 09:29 PM) Agree. I'd much rather not have to hate the guy anymore. Here, good riddance. On any other team, good luck. The signing made great sense at the time. Given his career accomplishments the pay wasn't at all out of sight. The draft pick cost wasn't even worth talking about. Knowing his game it was reasonable to assume a regression during the contract at some point, probably Year 4, but not a severe one. Didn't work out, too bad so sad, cut the cord, send him elsewhere and play the younger controllable types, because even if they are not seen by the FO as being part of the 2016 team and beyond, they could at least bring back something that hopefully will be assuming they have quality seasons. And betting on Dunn for a quality season, salary relief, anything at all is completely foolish. Even the Cubs understand this, dumping off Zambrano and Soriano just to get them out of the clubhouse and off the field taking up playing time and out of the minds of the fanbase. Turn the f***ing page already. I can almost hear Bob Seger singing it now as we all wave tearful goodbyes full of joy watching that gigantic unfortunate mistake finally GTFO of here. The Cubs saved about $7 million in the Soriano trade and $2.5 million on Carlos Zambrano.
