  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) According to fangraphs, the Sox have the worst catching situation in baseball. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-positi...nkings-catcher/ I saw that and do not disagree whatsoever.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) It could be Nieto, but I think it's more likely they're trying to just keep him in the system and send him to AA. He hasn't played above A-ball. We shall see, but I'll go Gimenez for now. Who are you DFA'ing or 60-day DLing then? I'm 99.9% sure it's Nieto at this point.
  3. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 11:12 AM) Down to Giminez and Nieto for the backup spot. Who's it going to be? Nieto.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:43 AM) No I believe it was Rahm's team that came up with the projection and the actual has been a small percentage, not to mention the extreme corruption and bribery that went on when selecting the vendor. Meanwhile Colorado is making as much off of Marijuana taxes each month as they are on liquor taxes. They are projecting about 70 million in revenue this year. Just sayin I don't know what the marijuana sin tax percentage is, but I think as more and more states move to (and do) legalize consumption, you'll also see diminishing marginal returns on taxes. I'm guessing Colorado itself saw quite the influx of new citizens due entirely to the legalization of marijuana. Washington is probably similar, but it's so far isolated that it makes more sense for people to move to Colorado as opposed to Washington. Right now, if marijuana were legalized in Illinois, you'd likely see a similar uptick in population.
  5. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 07:23 PM) NO. Flowers may be the only viable option. My problem is with Robin 's quote that "he has done a good job and he is picking up offensively. " He strikes out more than any catcher in baseball based on at bats and he has done the same so far in spring training. Well, considering Ventura sees almost all of his sidework and doesn't base every judgment he makes based on game situations during Spring Training, while also likely seeking counsel from those who may know as much or more than him regarding the judgment of hitters, I'm going to take his word before yours. Also, strike outs are still outs. So are ground outs, so are fly outs. Outs are outs. Get over it.
  6. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) Can we just close this stupid thread already? This issue has been beaten to death. This is a good idea as nothing positive will further come from this thread.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 19, 2014 -> 07:56 AM) ANYONE but Quinn IMO. This guy is a bonehead, typical IL politician. I'm pretty sick of most IL politicians, from the inept alderman all the way up to govs we continuously elect time after time. For a state with taxes up the ass, fees on top of fees for everything, money generating red light cameras, they're one of the worst states in the union when it comes to credit rating and debt...and there is no excuse for it all of those things considered. If anything, IL should be one of the richest states in the union. Not that it's terribly relevant, but these were ruled unconstitutional in South Dakota based on a statute that states the notice must be given to you in person by an issuing officer.
  8. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) And Danish if he sticks as a starter. He's like 2-3 years away at the very, very earliest.
  9. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 03:39 PM) Aww look see what you guys are causing with your Dunn loving bulls***? Come on now. What's this really about? Can't you all see what's really important here? QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) These two posts (or really, images) really put into perspective how psychotically obsessed you are with Adam Dunn. The mere fact that you are calling people stupid, both directly and indirectly, is enough for suspension, but that you would go this far to defame and foul a respectable man's reputation, someone who most on here realize is not going anywhere, despite your thousands of attempts to convince otherwise (of which no one believed or listened to because of numerous logical reasons, none of which were you willing to listen), really goes to show how far off the deep end you really are. Please, rather than drawing more pictures of Adam Dunn and coming up with these fake and terrible Microsoft Paint letters, take your time off to get some freaking help.
  10. QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) You gentlemen can argue the point that he was not a good fit for the White Sox. I disagree, because he could have provided a left handed veteran bat, in a lineup sorely lacking one. However, that was not the reason given for the almost unanimous rejection of my suggestion that Hahn try to acquire him. The argument made was that he was not capable of playing at the Major League level, given his absence from the game, for such an extended period of time. He may sustain another injury, and he may never be able to stay on the field. However, I think that he is proving that he is now healthy, and as I stated yesterday, that he has not forgotten how to play baseball. That was all that I tried to say in my original posts. The notion that he would be unable to regain any semblance of a decent player, appears to have less credence, with each passing day. Of course it's too early to say, but the fact that it does seem plausible that he will be able to perform, makes the suggestion that I was foolish for even suggesting it, not very credible. And, as I said, the World Champion Red Sox seem to agree with me, and not all of the naysayers. Lillian, I haven't forgotten how to play baseball. I haven't played organized baseball in like 10 years. No, it's too goddamn early to call for anything. It's now March 19th and the China doll known as Grady Sizemore hasn't broken yet. If he doesn't, then congratulations are in order to you for predicting the lottery.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) Which, then leads me to predict that Tabata just goes straight to the Twins :'( Trading history with the Pirates, and they were willing to take Pressley as pretty much the main piece for Morneau. I could give or take Tabata. In today's game, he seems like the prototypical "different" option, the .725 OPS, high OBP, steal bases kind of player that teams want. The problem I see is that, in 1500+ plate appearances, he's yet to really improve as a ball player in the majors. And be careful who you're calling a good defender. Even the fans think he's mediocre (or worse).
  12. I don't even know what the 25 man roster is going to look like on March 30th of 2014. I definitely don't know what it's going to look like on August 1st of 2014. I am absolutely dumbfounded as to what it's going to be on April 1st of 2015. I know this is meant as a fun exercise, but frankly I'd be impressed by anybody that got 50% of the 2016 roster correct. 2 years ago, there's no way anybody could have predicted that Garcia, Eaton, Davidson, and Abreu would be in the opening day lineup, or that Chris Sale would be coming off back to back incredibly seasons, or that some guy named Jose Quintana was going to take a spot in the rotation, or that Philip Humber would be out of the league.
  13. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) I'll simplify it so you can understand. Flowers struck out more than any catcher in baseball last year based on number /AB. 6 out of 26 is a small sampling and it is only the mid-point of Spring training, but it is also against a range of ML to Class A pitchers. On a team that needs offense, he may be headed for a worst season this year. So you'd prefer they start either a guy who was even worse than him in the majors or a guy who has never played a game above A+? It's not a good option, but Tyler Flowers is absolutely the Sox best option at this point. I wish it weren't so, but it is, so there's no time to dwell. (I was wrong on this front too, but it is what it is)
  14. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Just cut ties with Beckham already and put Semien in there At this point, that's not going to happen.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) http://grantland.com/features/chicago-cubs...x-theo-epstein/ Cubs slobknobbin. That exploiting of hitters and pitchers sounds well and nice, but acquiring good pitchers isn't that easy. So basically, because baseball got smart to these guys skating around the rules and changed them up to make them more fair for the rest of baseball, it's not Theo and Jed's fault that the Cubs haven't won. Meanwhile, the White Sox went from being old, broken down, and expensive to being a young, energetic team on the rise in 1 offseason. Sounds like Theo and Jed were playing The Show and the difficulty just went from Rookie to Hall of Fame.
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) Letroy Guion and Julius Peppers are the only players that came from other teams. They've drafted and signed incredibly well, but having #12 back there has been a huge part of that. Greg Jennings signed a huge free agent contract with the Vikings. He put up 68/804/4 in his first season in Minnesota, 15 games. Jarrett Boykin was an injury replacement who played in all 16 games but only started 8. On the year, he put up a 49/681/3. That's your Aaron Rodgers effect.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) I read Schefter's piece (jerk move, I know but I read it on my phone and can't find where he stored it) on the Broncos and their cap. Makes you really mad at how poorly the bears have drafted. For all of this "spending spree" they are still in fine shape with 31 players on their rookie contracts on the team. Meanwhile...the Bears. No matter how good our FA signings and re-signings continue to perform, this team is screwed until we get a draft pick worth a damn. The Broncos have been one of the best drafting teams in the league, plus having Manning and then hitting on Von Miller makes it a lot easier to build. When you have impact talents like that, it makes the jobs of everyone else on the team a lot easier. The same thing can be said about the Packers, Seahawks, 49ers, Patriots, whoever, you name them.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 09:39 AM) Politics are a giant circle jerk. The older I get the more I realize it's a giant ruse by both sides. They just try to sabotage each other without any regard for the people who elected them. I feel the same. On the local level, it's typically much better and much less corrupt - obviously, depending upon where you live (because saying that on a Chicago board is hilarious) - and I feel you can both get your message across and get more done for the people that will actually matter and be affected by the decision.
  19. Is there something wrong about caring more about money? As if it makes a person selfish? Maybe in Melo's case because he has made so much to this point in his career, but there are a lot of circumstances involved too. If it's best for both he and La La, then he's not wrong in staying. If they want to go to Chicago, they're not wrong in doing that either.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 18, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) They would like him to fail in such a way that it leaves a political environment that resembles the post-Bush one And this is what's wrong about the political system in the US. You are not wrong, but it's sad that Republicans want the leader of the country to fail so they can have some sort of quasi-celebration saying "We told you so, we're right, you're wrong!" so that a Republican official can be elected President only to have the Democrats go through the same charade.
  21. QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 10:48 PM) I'm so glad that you remembered my strong advocacy for the White Sox to sign him. Well, the World Champion Red Sox seem to be just as crazy as I am. And then there is this: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/grady-...ent_id=69512448 He is the same age as Cano and Shin Soo Choo, and consider the money and the contracts they were given. Sizemore may turn out to be the best bargain of the off season. I understand that it's early, and there is a very small sample size, but he is demonstrating that he is healthy, and that he hasn't forgotten how to play baseball. Lillian, if Sizemore does this all year, or s***, even into July, then feel free to feed us all the crow you want. Bringing up why the Sox were wrong in not signing Sizemore on March 17th is more than premature.
  22. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 09:41 PM) In 350 AB's last season, as a rookie, he hit .303. With his defensive ability, if he hits .250, he is a prize. That was with a .356 BABIP, and that .303 was still quite empty (21 XBHs, 5/7 SB/CS, 3.9% BB%). If he hits .250, it's likely going to be about a .250/.300/.325 line, and he could be ultimately be a much worse hitter than that too. His line in Detroit last year was .259/.306/.348. Yes, he's good defensively, but, as was pointed out, he has no bat. We'll also have to see how he ultimately grades out on defense. My guess is going to be that he grades well but is ultimately overrated defensively. People will say he's the best or one of the two best defensive shortstops, and I think that's going to be extremely debatable, but ultimately we'll see.
  23. QUOTE (DashFan @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 04:28 PM) What do you think the chances are that Rick is looking to the draft as a target to get us a catcher? Any guys in there that could have an impact in the MLB soon enough? Come the draft, you take the best player available, and that is likely going to be a pitcher at this point.
  24. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) If you notice, unlike wite I can make a zillion different analogies & none of them ever have to involve washing machines. Poor washing machines, why won't you just leave them alone?!?!?! Yes, because comparing the White Sox front office to that of crackhead parents is a logical and well thought out analogy.
  25. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) Yes. BTW Jesus loves everyone..... EXCEPT FOR YOU!!!! Jesus loves Adam Dunn.
