  1. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:54 AM) Since when do Sox fans care what's in the best interest of management? It's obvious why we're "so sensitive" about this issue: fans here are accustomed to attending games off 35th and Shields. This team is an important part of many peoples' lives, and usually the relocation of a team is never heralded by media/fans. How do Cleveland feel when they intially lost their football team? Or Washington with baseball in the late 70's? It's rather moronic to suggest moving the team if attendance doesn't spike 25%. Reinsdorf is a business savvy individual who knows the earning potential of his products. Removing baseball from this market will never happen. This team earns a playoff spot, attendance will surpass 2 million. He operates this team, at worst, to break even. JR won't relocate this organization. It's really that simple. You may be correct in that he will not relocate. But I would not blame him if our attendance does not improve 25% if we stay in the lead throughout the year and win the division. Not to mention, this team actually plays like a team, does not have any real prima donnas or roid-boys and in general is a very fundamentally sound team. I would be richer than Bill Gates if I had a penny for EVERY time I heard someone in Chicago say that all they want from their team is to compete hard every day/night. Well, that is exactly what the Sox do. So stop whining about the f***ing 94 strike or the white flag and show up. Or stop complaining when the Cub fans make fun of us because we f***ing deserve it.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:54 AM) Timeout buddy, you make it seem like fans aren't coming up. You say the payroll is linked to the attendance(which I agree with) and the attendance has been raised every year for what the last 3-4 years?? So what the hell does that tell you? And I believe, the payroll has increased marginally too every year (in accordance with attendance increase). I remember JR willing to increase payroll to get Bartolo and even to re-sign Maggs in the near past.
  3. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:53 AM) I agree . Everyone needs to stop getting offended about attendence threads. Its the f***ing truth! We need to support our 1st place team. 12,000 is f***ing pathetic. If you're going to make excuses about why you can't go, then don't get mad when Frank , paulie and garland are in different unis in the near future.
  4. QUOTE(Cy Garland @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:21 AM) You may not give a f***, but if you really cared about the long term success of this team, you would too. If there is one GUARANTEE about the Sox, it is that their payroll is directly proportional to the attendance and that is NOT going to change. And yes, higher payroll DOES NOT always equate to success, but with Kenny as our GM, I would love to see our team with a 100M payroll some day. As hard as he works, he would end our ineptness if he had that kind of payroll, no doubt in my mind. Higher payrolls do give you a better chance to win. The Pirates and Brewers and Royals have never won anything in the recent memory because of that very reason. So again, if you really cared about the Sox, you would give a f*** about the attendance. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we keep Frank here next year or not. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we sign Garland long term or not. Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we re-sign Paulie long terms or get a big bat to replace him or not Every extra ticket sold is the difference between whether we go finding the next Jimenez or Royce Clayton or Uribe instead of ARod or not. So STFU if you have no clue.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:18 AM) Ok, sorry about that, I actually didn't mean to do that. But honestly if you mean the sox should move then you deserve a big F YOU. Too bad if you do not like it, but as an owner, I know I would say :fyou to the Sox fans and move the team IF we cannot get at least a 25% improvement in attendance this year from last year if we continue to stay in 1st place throughout At some point, you have to make a business decision and say WTF is the point? If winning is not enough, nothing EVER will be. You may not the like the truth, but I would not blame JR one bit if he decided that was the way to go if we did not get better attendance this year. And again, why is everyone here so sensitive about this. This is not meant as a jab to any of the Sox fans here. It is clear (at least to me) that everyone is here is die hard and passionate and want to see the Sox succeed.

    Closer

What would have happened to this forum if Shingo had blown this one run lead today and we had lost the game? Ozzie showed lots of balls to put Shingo in there, trying to instill some confidence in his closer from last year. But what if it had backfired.....I bet this forum would have "asploded"
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:06 AM) If you mean move the team then...... :fyou :fyou :fyou Nice job posting me out of context ....why don't you post the entire post :rolly "I hope this improves. If we cannot improve attendance with what we have on the field this year, I seriously think JR should pack up and go somewhere else. WTF is the point?"
  8. I have always been a big proponent of the "where are the people" crowd? I hope this improves. If we cannot improve attendance with what we have on the field this year, I seriously think JR should pack up and go somewhere else. WTF is the point? I see the Mariners here in the NW getting great attendance despite coming off a horrible year and despite having no chance this year. And the NW folks are not even passionate about their sports. This just flat out sucks. And before I get the "you cannot say anything because you do not attend any games" comment, save it. I have heard it. My ideal dream scenario is that we fill it up this year to a point where we can make some more serious upgrades in the offseason and contend every year, with the increased revenues. With the Cubs destined to not do much this year with their injuries, what better time than now to make the move....
  9. Who wrote this? Can someone send this to Kotex boy? Hell, all of us should send it to him....
  10. Iguchi reminds me a lot of Ichiro....nothing fancy. In fact some of his mechanics may look horrible to the naked eye....but he puts the bat on the ball, rarely chases bad pitches and when he makes contact he tries to steer the ball into the gap or over the infielder Very good pick up Kenny
  11. What is with all of this "nation" crap now? Red Sox nation last year and now I just heard on BBTN the words "Cub Nation" while referring to Kerry's boo boo
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ May 3, 2005 -> 01:50 AM) If you've ever seen the episode of South Park where Cartman saw the Buttheads and lost his sense of humor because they were so funny, that's what my reaction would be if the Cubs fired Baker during this season. This doesn't mean that I don't doubt your prediction, I mean it would be the biggest 180 from the Cubs fans stroking his shlong to him being fired... with that said I don't think they'll fire him this year, they'll let him use the injury excuse one more time.... even though the Sox haven't used it, and the Cardinals won't use it with Issringhausen (sp?) Replace Dusty in there for Sosa and that post still makes sense
  13. If not Clemens, how about this guy as another pitcher really worth looking into Jason Schmidt with the Giants. They should be out of it and they will be dumping their AARP team. On a similar note, if he is healthy and has shown to be productive, how about Moises Alou for LF....move Pods to CF to take over from the inconsistent Rowand Let Carl play RF until he breaks an arm or something....then move Dye or Rowand there
  14. Ok, I know it does not belong here, but it is an off-day...move it if you must
  15. I would love to get someone like Arthur Rhodes so we can send Cotts sorry ass down where it belongs so that he can fix his problems
  16. They surely are getting antsy there on the "other" side of town http://www.firedustybaker.com/
  17. If Crede goes back to being Cruddy for the rest of the time between now and A/S break, you have to at least call to find out if the Nats would be willing to trade Vinny Castilla and see whether they would pay some of his salary too for a mid level prospect He is batting 0.333 currently with 3 HR, 16 RBI, 6 BBs and a 0.388 OBP, before I get the "He can only it in Coors field" response
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Ok -- let's give them Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson, along with Jon Garland, for a half a season of Roger Clemens. Awesome. :headshake I would not give up that much. Give them one of our OF'ers (they are easy to find eslewhere) + any pitcher except BMac in the minors they want. The goal is to win it all....and with our luck we never know when we will even be in the playoffs again. The horrors of 2000 and not doing much at the deadline are still alive with me. Go for the jugular damn it. Clemens would be kick ass. Our answer to Schilling and Randy.
  19. I have a wild card....when you get into the playoffs, you have to beat the best team out there. And one way to beat them is getting someone they badly need. If you look at the Yankees and Bo Sox, they both need pitching IMO. Their pitchers have injury issues or are geting up in age (Kevin Brown, David Wells, Curt Schilling, Randy Johnson, Mussina, Jared Wright etc) The one pitcher that will definitely be on the market will be Roger Clemens. If he goes back to the Yankees, we are focked because I just do not see us being able to beat the Yankees then, and if we are serious about a World Series win, we HAVE to stop them from getting Clemens. We have more to offer than the Yanks or Bo Sox. I would get Clemens, put the Count into the Bull pen and we are set for the playoffs. We improve our BP too that way.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 2, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) I have a feeling that KW would go after Nomar(if healthy and the Flubs are out of it, as we know they will be). Seems like a KW move. He likes to get name players and Nomar at SS would show(the average fans) that the Sox are forreal about going after it all. Guarentee it wouldn't cost us McCarthy either. If Nomah comes back healthy and starts producing that would be an awesome move A solid Nomah would make this line up really solid for the playoffs Pods (LF) Iguchi (2B) Frank (DH) Paulie (1B) Everett (RF) Nomah (SS) Dye/Rowand (CF) Crede (3B) AJ Pierz ©
  21. I was thinking of this exact thing yesterday, and here are my biggest fears. When Frank comes back, yes we should get some O back. We should then play Carl in RF and play Dye/Rowand using match ups that favor them. However, my concern is that IF we do get to the series we will lose Kong or Frank for every game played in the NL park. That is a huge drop off in production.
  22. I still wish though that we had actually traded Maggs last year before he got injured (I know it was difficult given we were still in it when he got injured) .... we could have got a hell of a prospect for him and still done what we did No problems though....
  23. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:21 AM) He has said he doesn't look at stats. Now i don't know how true this is but i know he has said it. Yeah I read Ozzie saying that somewhere too that he is not a big stat guy.
  24. To the ignorant poster who said JG's success has a lot to do with the fact that he is our #5 and hence facing the other team's #5, here are some facts you are ignoring: Jon's ERA is less than 2. So it is not like he is getting lit up for runs, and still winning becoz the opponent pitcher is also getting lit up. He has 2 CG shut outs....which is a great reflection of not only his ERA but also of the fact that he is keeping our BP fresh for when they are needed. He has not faced only the 5th starters in all of his 5 wins.
