  1. Only if Harris was traded. Which is very possible if the sox do get Renteria
  2. It must have been the voices.
  3. They mentioned it [i could have sworn] around 12:15, 12:20 pm, and Boers started talking about Jaret Wright. It's afeter 2 pm so I guess not. Unless I was hearing things, or maybe he'll be on Telander's show. Sorry
  4. They mentioned that KW will be stopping by / calling in in the 12 segment. Didn't say what Kw will be talking about. I'm not sure if the Score on 670 AM can be accessed via the internet. But I'm sure someone can give a running commentary/ recap for the out of town folks
  5. I think it's a pretty sure thing that no one else will get a $15 mill a yr deal, besides Beltran. I think that's the "collusion rate", with teams saying anything above that is too much. And his unreal playoff run notwithstanding, he's not worth more than $15 + mill a yr. for the next decade. If any of the long term contracts have shown the owners, anything can happen to make huge contract an albatross, where even the best players [manny, arod, etc] wind up being unaffordable for a team
  6. Seeing how only two guys [Tejada and Vlad?] have gotten $15 mill + deals the last few years, I'd be surprised if Beltran got much more than that. Even from the Yanks
  7. Ozzie wasn't all that impressed by Marte last year. Seeing how he is only a setup man [the 'Marte as closer' experiment has been and gone], the sox shouldn't say no to any deal involving him. It doesn't hurt to listen. I'm not saying some deal couldn't be worked out. But for Marte I'd like more than a 1 yr rental
  8. the article mentioned the Astros "offer" believed to be $13 mill/ yr over 6, 7 yrs.

Crede isn't using this as a crutch, nor is he making excuses. The Sox coaches have pointed the flaw out to him and he's finally realized this has negatively impacted his swing. But if Crede still doesn't improve after being "fixed", then the sox may need to move in another direction.
  10. Thanks. Drew and Adrian Beltre are the Jaret Wright of position player FA's. The light may have finally kicked on, as well as good health. But a long term deal is risky. It'll be interesting to see what team signs Drew. Maybe a team like Pitt. will take a chance on him, seeing him as the guy to build around. It would be cheaper then getting a "sure thing" like Beltran. yet risky for a low budget team to put all their cash into one guy.
  11. At that price, Beltran would be doable for the Sox. At 15+ mill, no.
  12. i don't think Hudson is pushing himself on the block. He wants to push the A's to get a deal on the table before the season starts. Like he said, he doesn't want to have all the distractions like Giambi and Tejada went through all season long. Hudson then can "I'll talk about a contract after the season" to all the media instead of fielding 1001 questions during the year. But, Hudson is likely to be dealt as the A's don't seem to want to give him a long term deal.

Crede was lucky he wasn't on the bench, let alone in the 8th spot the way he was hitting. The Sox and Ozzie showed a lot of confidence by still keeping him in there when many teams would have pulled the plug
  14. I certainly can't see the sox taking on two injury risks in Wright and Drew. Besides, signing Drew to a 4 yr deal doesn't make sense if the Sox are as high on Sweeney as they claim to be. Sweeney should be ready in 2 yrs. Going for a short term option like Dye would seem a safer bet. But Drew could be less expensive than some people think, due to his injuries. I wouldn't build a team around him. But some club could get him at a decent price and be pleased w/ his production

I was just going to post it, beat me to it. This is the type of story fans need to know [though the sox couldn't go public with a problem Crede didn't think was a problem--even though they did last yr]. At least that dispells some of the ramblings that Crede didn't take well to coaching. When it comes to a guy's swing, the mechanics become so ingrained that it's hard for a guy to change. That Crede has had the success he's had w/ a big flaw shows he has a lot of untapped talent. Could he better his minor league stats in the majors? Time will tell. Yet I feel better knowing he doesn't just suck and the org. is making a lame excuse for him. The Sox certainly can use all the young players they can to build around. Now if the sox can work on your friend Willie's problems......
  16. I think he'll be traded before the season starts
  17. If Tracey, BMac or Honel pan out enough to help this year, and Jose Contreras struggles, Jose would go to the bullpen. Many see him in the closers role. I'd much rather see the sox keep the young kids as SP's. I know Cotts and Adkins were moved but they didn't have solid 3rd pitches
  18. There are some awful Type A's--Grudz, Shuey [didn't even pitch in 2004], Miceli, Batista, Mantei. I'd like to see how their ratings came out
  19. ATL will offer arb. He made $850 k last yr. Wright would get far less than the $6 + mill possible deal in ARB w/ his past injuries.
  20. That's a good list of SP's to target, and in the right order. If the score is getting some info, the Sox should be close to a deal. If not, and the Sox are going public with another failed FA signing, more bad PR that they don't need. They'd just be better off telling the media the time of a press conference announcing a signing instead of leaking reports of "plans" that could change in an hour.
  21. Do you have a listing of the NL free agents? I posted a link in "FA Resource" of the AL players and what class they are. But with Wright's poor 2003, I'd think he'd be a Type B FA.
  22. If you posted info on him like others have done, then you at least would have a basis to say, "he's a jackass". Sorry if I don't take someone's word that a baseball player/ human being is a jackass without a little more info to go on. Like Jim H said, he's a young man w/ problems--problems that are prob. too severe for the sox to take the time and effort on helping him with. So no, I don't think he's a jackass. [Artest? now he's a jackass]
  23. I forgot about LoDuca being a #2 hitter. The sox could prob. get a prospect with Castillo for Lee, as he's signed for a few years. Yet PK would be a big stretch for FLA, with him being a FA after 2005. Mota isn't going anywhere. FLa needs him.
  24. Thank you guys for the links. this is the info that's appreciated. The "he's a drunk" and a "jackass" certainly aren't much help. Bradley is probably too much work for the sox. Even at this time when the sox are lacking in the young talent dept, and have a gaping hole at the top of the lineup. I still think the Sox need a leadoff/ #2 type hitter with the talent of a Bradley, just not the problems.
  25. Just as it's only my opinion that Castillo, while he may not have more value on the open market than Lee, would be more valauble to the Sox. We'll agree to disagree, agreed One thing I was asking myself why FLa might want to trade Castillo. I know a prospect Josh Wilson can play both 2b and SS. The question about him going into 2004 was his bat. I think he did pretty well this yr. Maybe they see him taking over in 2005.
