Zito to Sox (3-Way trade possibility)
The MEts wouldn't help us get Zito. He's the SP they'd want

Zito to Sox (3-Way trade possibility)
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) FWIW, to get a Zito, we would realistically have to include Brandon McCarthy and that ain't happenin. The right strategy IMHO should be to trade a starter in Garcia or Vazquez to open up a spot for B-Mac, not trade for another starter. Doesn't make sense for a 2 month rental, considering the players you would have to give up. It makes sense that another team would want and overpay to get Zito. The Sox don't really need to, despite the SP's struggles. Now if Zito was under contract for another yr or two, yes KW would probably pull a deal. But he's not.

Zito to Sox (3-Way trade possibility)
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Uhh no thank you. Scott Bora$$ is Barry Zito's new agent. That means we have NO chance of re-signing him once he hits FA. The only way I can see this making sense from a White Sox perspective is if we then spin Zito to a team like New York for other pieces that will help us win now. That makes sense. The A's could take Freddy, and the Mets could part with the Humber, Heilman combo to us. The mets would also have to give up another good prospect or two to the A's, as they would be getting Zito.

Zito to Sox (3-Way trade possibility)
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Well that would certainly be awesome depending on who we'd have to give up. I haven't heard what the asking price for Zito has been. IIRC, though, the a's wanted Lastings Milledge. Yet the A's would still need a SP for their rotation this year wouldn't they?

Potential other Sox deals
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) There was a rumor going around yesterday that the Mariners were close to doing a Heilman for Meche deal. Don't know who would have backed out of that one (I assume Seattle), but Meche's performance last night will have hardly improved his trade value. The Mets also think that Miguel Batista won't be traded. So if they won't go for Zito, they only have a few options really, Kip Wells, Tony Armas Jr., Livan Hernandez and Freddy Garcia. Heilman makes sense, because next season he could actually join the rotation if you wanted to deal Vazquez to an NL team on the East Coast. And he would pitch in long - relief and setup situations. Heilman likely will be gone soon from the mets for whoever they can get. I saw this on Heilman's espn page: "Jul. 24 News: Heilman's lack of hustle Sunday to first base after fielding a nubber to the left of the mound by Chris Burke resulted in Burke beating him to the bag, leading to Heilman's removal by manager Willie Randolph while being booed by Mets fans as he left the field." --The sox might be able to get more than Humber and Heilman, probably an A level prospect for Freddy

Potential other Sox deals
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) I saw this piece in the Fort Worth Star Telegram; Would the Sox do Frankie Francisco or someone like Joaquin Arias (SS in AAA) and Danks for Garcia though, if they couldn't get a Humber and Heilman deal from the Mets? Actually, now that the sox got MacDougal, a Heilman and Humber deal sounds very good. Heilman can go in long relief instead of 8th inning set up. And Heilman could go into the rotation at some point. Having guys who can go multiple innings rather than strictly one inning guys helps keep the bullpen rested and ready.

"This Too Shall Pass" Thread
Just thought I'd bump the thread. Things don't look good as the sox are playing like crap. But for some reason, I'm still not worried. The sox still are healthy and have the talent to get to the playoffs, even without making a move. I don't see this team rolling over and giving up. Even with the slump, the sox aren't "going through the motions" ala the pre-2005 teams. They're still battling. Hopefully, it'll work out. Because there are no quick fixes that will turn this thing around.

Potential other Sox deals
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) So if we are going to upgrade our pitching and our bullpen as of now is pretty damn good... what could the deal involve? Also with all the talk that he isnt trading any of our 5 starters I dont see how we can upgrade the pitching. From the way Ozzie's talking in today's papers, I'd be very surprised if anything is added at all. To add a pitcher or someone else off the 25 man, someone has to go. Besides Gload, who else could be replaced?
-
Potential other Sox deals
With reports the sox are scouting the MIL/Pit games, I don't think Hernandez or Torres would be that much better than what the sox already have. I'm wondering if they aren't there for them [they may be--Torres is decent but signed a big deal in the offseason], then who else makes sense? I'm going with Brady Clark. He's making over $3 mill. He played Mon. in Cf and LF [where he could replace Ozuna vs LHP--he's hitting over .300 this yr vs LHP]. He's that righty hitting OF the sox need. Gload could find himself out of a job. Hasn't Mack played 1b in his career? IIRC, he has. Why take up a roster spot with Gload when Clark would play more?

Soriano Rumors: Part Deux
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) Here's some food for thought: Broadway, Pods, Tracey for Soriano They get a leadoff hitter who they can put in LF and control his rights for another couple years (or they could move him), a pretty good RHP pitching prospect that could be ready for the majors in a year (not saying he'd be good in a year, but I think he could handle himself sometime next year) and a guy like Tracey who could pitch now (maybe we give them a 4th prospect, in this case, being a low level minor leaguer). Nats get some talent, Sox get there guy without giving up McCarthy or any other starter. That's a reasonable trade for the sox

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
Soriano can't be worse than Ozuna in LF, can he? He's got to have a better arm than Pods

Teams that could be interested in Javy or Freddy
The dodgers have been mentioned as well in the Soriano rumors. Three prospects are off limits it seems. There are plenty more prospects to choose from as LA is stacked. From CBS sportsline rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers Updated:07/25/2006 If the Dodgers do make a move before the trade deadline, the Orange County Register says the young trio of Russell Martin, Chad Billingsley and Matt Kemp would be off limits to trade partners.

Teams that could be interested in Javy or Freddy
QUOTE(Hanger @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) Note- I do not know the farm system of the Brewers or Giants but- They are both still in contention for wildcard berth in the NL, granted Milwaukee is worried about salary issues, thus why they may not resign Carlos Lee. however they have had some very nice talent in their farm system make their ways to the majors, and is making me wonder what other gems they have down in the system. The Giants-I have no clue here, they have to be thinking that this very well may be Bonds last year, and the team as a whole is not getting younger. I think depending whats out there, and how close the NL West race is +wildcard contention the Sox may be able to get more than Freddy's value for a pitcher ready now and get some pretty nice youngsters in return with maybe a bullpen guy. I think MIL is going to be a seller this week. They couldn't afford either Freddy and JAvy. The Giants, IIRC, have one of the worst minor league systems in the league. I do think one of the NL West teams would overpay for Freddy, as the division is so close

Ozzie has lost his way
Ozzie had Cotts warming up before the 6th inning when Vazquez had a shutout going. He was prepared for a Javy meltdown. And Mauer was hitting poorly vs LHP this yr [like .266]. Having Cotts face him was the right thing to do. Javy has to be given opportunities to go deeper into games ala Garland last yr and 2004. Once Javy gets beyond the one big inning, I expect great things. Hopefully it happens this yr

Teams that could be interested in Javy or Freddy
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) maybe in the offseason, but why the hell would we be trading for prospects as we sprial downhill??!!!?!? Teams probably won't give up top talent in the offseason. Why deal Freddy? It would strengthen the rotation this yr with Bmac >>> than the 2006 Freddy. BMac could duplicate his performance down the stretch in 2005 this yr. That is more likely than Freddy suddenly finding 5 mph on his fastball. And it would set up the sox for 2007 and beyond w/ Danks a decent bet to help mid yr. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Supposedly JD (Danks) is the real deal. I'd make this move as well. And the sox love his OF brother Jordan. Didn't the sox rave about the family when they tried to get him to break his college committment? Could help get his brother signed in a few yrs when he's eligible

Teams that could be interested in Javy or Freddy
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Just thought I would start this thread, because personally I believe it's definitely more likely that one of these 2 are dealt instead of B-Mac. And I saw this article in the Fort Worth Star - Telegram; If KW could get say a John Danks and another prospect for Garcia, that would be a very good move IMHO, if you can't get the Heilman and Humber package from the Mets. But what other teams would you put down as having an interest in upgrading their SP right now, and of those teams who do you think would seriously consider Freddy or Javy? I'll also post this in here; If KW is intent on getting the most value for a SP like Freddy, trading now would be the best option instead of waiting 'til the offseason. Tex. would seem a logical start--the lefty Danks and a lower level prospect could do it. Esp. as the Sox are now short on LHSP's with Lumsden gone. And Danks could be expendable. Hurley is moving up fast, with Diamond and Volzquez ahead of Danks or the same pace to hit the bigs, and TEx. signed a LHP w/ their #1 pick this yr. Danks would be the sox #1 pitching prospect and could be ready by mid 2007. If the sox do trade for Soriano [giving up pitching no doubt], they'll need another top pitching prospect. The sox can't just trade their prospects for vets [though MacDougal is a different case--high risk, high reward--and could be around for yrs]. Actually, getting MacDougal may make a Freddy trade more likely. They may not need a top set up man in return for Freddy. The sox could get the best available SP prospect as they have someone for BMac's bullpen slot.

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) Flash will love this, from the N.Y Daily News; Broadway seems like a logical request in a deal for Soriano. Of course the "quickly turned down" could be a ploy to see what the Nats want in return. I can't that being a deal breaker.

Time To Say Bye Bye To Javy
Vazquez dominated for 5 innings. You don't throw the way he did if your stuff is easily replaced. The "one big inning" seems more of a mental block, judging by some of his comments on the radio I heard from him. One thing to consider---The sox showed much greater patience with Garland and Jose. Those situations panned out well. IMO, they should and will show the same patience with Javy. Cut him loose after 4 months with the club? Not going to happen

White Sox close to acquiring Soriano
QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) It certainly sounds like we can put the Soriano rumors to rest... Why, what's happening?

On a more serious note...
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 07:51 AM) well we sure as hell weren't 7.5 games out of first at this point last year. it's sad as more and more of you turn into cub fans... Being 7.5 games away from a playoff spot and and finding all the cheerleading still, then you might have a point. But to call anyone who has the slightest positive post a "cub fan" is a bit over the top. We'll see how the year ends up. But to compare 2006 with last year isn't fair. This is a different team, with different players, strengths and weaknesses. No team follows the same path year in and year out. One thing is certain though-there is little certainty in baseball.

sox in run for soriano
If the sox did get Soriano, say for Fields and Broadway, which teams could they then trade Soriano to? LAD, STL, in the NL, Sea. in the AL. Which prospects could the sox get from LAD? Broxton [age 22] could help this yr and would form a lights out bullpen for yrs. Would LAD give up another big prospect for Soriano? Probably. STL has few big pieces other than Wainwright and Reyes. Same w/ Sea outside of Rafael Soriano.

Duaner Sanchez
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:44 PM) It makes no sense to trade him just to trade him. Gamble and hope that his stock rises, and that someone will get desperate on Saturday afternoon (unless they get desperate before), and if you can't get what you want, then hold onto him. He still has plenty of value to us. If Freddy gets lit up by Baltimore, then what would his value be? I'm saying if the Sox want to move him [that's a big IF] then trading after a very good start vs TEx. [that he got lucky in and still didn't hit 90 mph] makes sense. Gambling is one thing. Throwing away a very good trading chip is quite another

sox in run for soriano
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) I read on si.com that the Nationals want Fields and Broadway for Soriano. The key is who could the sox get from teams that want Soriano. Would they be better than Fields and Broadway, and help the sox win this yr and in the near future? QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) I'd like to see us make a 3-way trade, just to keep Soriano away from Detroit. Kenny said the same thing on AM 1000 before sunday's game, that they could get a guy to keep him away from the competition and then move him for more than he's worth. He had to have been talking about Soriano.

Duaner Sanchez
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) Heilman and Humber peoples. That's the most realistic deal I've heard on this board for the past week, and I'd love to get it done especially for Garcia. Hopefully Minaya takes the bait. Sanchez and a lesser prospect than Humber would be decent as well. Or if NY included Humber, a guy like Riske could go. Heilman IMO is another Riske--decent but not lights out. The Mets could include Sanchez as Pelfrey could then go to setup QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:58 PM) Friday night is a big start for Freddy Garcia. If he puts up another solid outing as he did Saturday night, you might see Omar get a little trigger happy on Saturday morning and make a deal. He doesn't lose much from the big league club by dealing Heilman (since he will get Garcia back), and Humber is the prospect that gets it done on Kenny's end. If the sox want to move Freddy, they shouldn't wait 'til Fri. to pull the trigger. Keep his ERA under 5.00

sox in run for soriano
The sox picking up Alphonso and then trading him to Sea. should be off the table. Rafael Soriano has some arm problems. from Rotoworld: "Rafael Soriano was unavailable for Sunday's game because his shoulder flared up again. Manager Mike Hargrove wanted to keep it secret beforehand, but since he's always so predictable with his pitcher usage and Soriano wasn't involved in the wins on Saturday and Sunday, it was clear that something was wrong again. Hargrove was optimistic that Soriano would be available tomorrow. Jul. 23 - 9:29 pm et Source: Seattle Post-Intelligencer"
