Correa and Bundy coming off today. Buxton has missed time and still not in the lineup every day…has been alternating days off and on. Paddack likely done for the year. Sano out for a similar time to Jimenez. Sonny Gray starting this afternoon.

Agreed. Don't even need to think twice. -
Jirschele.

If they added Suzuki and Rodon I would have been elated. Obviously Suzuki has cooled but still over an 800 ops and Cubs offense has been better recently granted they get to beat up on the Reds and Pirates. Still think you can win with young stars in the postseason if you have enough. Honestly would have thought about dumping Hendriks while adding Graveman and Tempera salaries (no Kelly ... got a 2B out of that.
-
The one guy everyone wanted early was Jean Segura, and that would have worked out okay...but then left no money for OF. "But we had Luis Gonzalez parked there in the minors all along...and he can actually play RF competently even." It was a great way for the Dodgers to dump a player who peaked at age 33/34 and for them to also get a similarly effective but expensive closer to replace Kenley...but a limited length deal in case it was a bad fit. Except we very easily could end up stuck with Pollock for the two most important seasons in modern White Sox history for determining the ultimate fate of this franchise.

We did have Cease and Dunning, but Cease wasn't ready for a big start like that yet. He still might not be. Of course Rodon was used in the pen, one of the more obvious moves that cost Renteria his job when he was the best pitcher on the team the following season. But instinct to use him there was off just like Kimbrel in 7th or 8th.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_/id/5883/zack-greinke Probably should have rested TA against Greinke instead. Harrison hasn't hit him well at all. Probably see Sheets again, too.
-
Why did we have to hold Kimbrel's option to add a player who can't even play RF acceptably, and might very well be on the 2023 roster too? We still have guys like Vaughn Sheets and Engel who all are for various reasons not a regular RF either. That was also supposed to help against RHP. No QO for Rodon. No real look at Luis Gonzalez for regular PT the last two years. And it doesn't seem like VV discovered anything new...I guess we are fortunate to be 4-6 overall in VV Cueto Lambert Martin starts so far. 3-7 or even 2-8 seemed possible with how bad the defense bullpen offensive/RISP has been. Finally they need much better offensive numbers out of Reese McGuire if he's going to get so many starts...

Seems to be a pretty significant gap to Harrison’s deal. We certainly overpaid Leury and Joe Kelly as well…nobody was willing to offer anything close to those deals for those three in particular. “Alberto's contract is worth $1.85 million guaranteed, with a $1.6 million salary in 2022 and a $2 million club option for 2023. If that option isn't exercised by the team, Alberto will receive a $250,000 buyout”2022年3月23日

But what was the vision beyond adding a talented collection of Cuban players (along with Jimenez) to build around Tim Anderson? Do we have any positive calling card or identity for this current team?
-
Where would Harrison have played? Was that before they resigned Turner at third? Just don’t get the need for Harrison with younger/cheaper/better Gavin Lux and Chris Taylor on that roster. He would have been the very last guy on the bench.
-
And maybe Cueto at 90-92 and not the hot gun in KC. Might be worth a shot to try to get a surer Cease victory next time out. Of course that's a bit of a loser's mentality for Cease to deliberately avoid the Yankees. He likely would face them again in the playoffs. Therefore he needs to build up his confidence that he can at least record a QS against them.

Carlos Rodon... What could the Sox gotten in trade?
caulfield12 replied to DanofDuPage's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Suffice it to say we would have had 1 likely 2 more victories compared to Lambert and VV starts. Record in VV starts 3-3. 10 9 9 runs total allowed across those three losses, obviously bullpen played a part. 7 5 3 earned runs allowed in losses. The 7 cancels out the recent Rodon outing against STL. Lambert went 3 2/3 and 2 ER in a 2-1 loss to CLE. 3 and 2 in a 5-1 loss to Seattle. So that's a team record of 3-5. 4-5 including Cueto's start, 4-6 record with Davis Martin's last night. Of course that doesn't include Keuchel because he would have still been in the rotation with Lynn out. So I would feel confident with Rodon's similar #'s to SFG that we would instead be 4 games over rather than merely .500, a full two game shift. -
No Buxton again. A's look like they are bound and determined to save the White Sox a one game negative swing in the standings. Twins 7-23 since 2012 out there and 3-9 their last 12. A bit reminiscent of West Coast swings for Sox from 2000 through 2008...@LAA @SEA @OAK. That was also the only team the A's beat when they were both making all those playoff runs from 2001-2010, the Twins. Until they beat the White Sox in 2020. A's also had that crazy loss against KC when Oakland was arguably best AL team in the second half of 2014.

I can't imagine how low the attendance for THAT game would be. Worse than if you had Bevington and Ventura and Manuel signing autographs as a promotion. Can throw Torborg and Lamont in there if still kicking. -

Not without big league track records that would show Sheets as anything but a platoon player confined to 1B/DH. But yeah the Pirates would trade Q for those two, lol. Although they have Hayes for 3B already. Vogelbach is pretty similar overall to Sheets in terms of what one might expect out of him. -

Hernandez had huge power numbers but regression came quickly on both sides. Tepera fine. Like he was a traitor to the Indians for playing well for a hated rival almost. It was weird especially with that option. Clearly not a good fit for whatever reason in our clubhouse. But quite a few of us came out against Kimbrel being forced into 7th and 8the inning work. Of course, he's once again 7/7 in converting saves this year so far. -

Once again, other than some high profile tiffs with NBA superstars...when has a star player/captain in MLB called publicly for a manager to replaced or even?questioned him strongly/called him out? Very very rare. Unless you know the GM and especially ownership group have your back. But TLR is a HoFer and is backed by Reins for free which everyone in baseball knows. So you're going to risk all that...and for what? A trade? -

But we used to say the exact same thing with every FA class...and usually ended up disappointed. Almost nobody liked his offseason, and payroll flexibility won't be high now with Cueto added and averaging 21000 per game. -

That's fine. Giolito's already got one foot out the door. Then what? Hope for another extension with Robert before his future value shoots through the roof? Kopech? Cease? Vaughn? Long term deals with 1B that are not superstars and pitchers with TJ histories...basically everyone now that starts...don't usually end up well. -

Going 6-11 against the AL Central...the very worst of six divisions in baseball, well it's not exactly highly correlated with any level of success unless you are the 83-79 Cardinals World Series team. -

Did he recognize the best AL hitter for average over the last three seasons cumulatively was sitting on the bench with him? -

Death incarnate everlasting and warmed over...three similar versions of Zombiefication. TLR has a final career ahead of him in the Evil Dead/Dawn of the Dead sequels/remakes. -

Imagine. Melendez caught both ends of a DH and still managed to hit the key homer. Anderson and Abreu couldn't be troubled to come off the bench. No Royals catcher has done that in 27 years. And a rookie to boot. -
