Royals vs Sox Sunday Matinee...1:10 pm CST First Pitch

Why are we playing for a tie game at home? He just hit a game winning homer and Collins isn't exactly a high contact hitter to get the run in from third. -

VAFAN will inevitably start a thread about our leading the AL or MLB in walks and OBP... and how everything will eventually even out with RISP hitting. We better get our heads on straight or the $40 million payroll Indians will boatrace us. -

He has that reggaeton career to fall back on... and a lot of money in the bank. -

I guess Williams running from second base makes more sense... but can't believe we can actually do anything positive. And of course we are entering a stretch of 11 games in a row and will be without Kopech and Crochet for two games and not even sure about Hendriks' availability. -

Perfectly typical White Sox play the first two weeks. -

The 1/9 with RISP when the game. should have been over the first four innings was the kids of death. That said, Hendricks absolutely has to get the job done... Santana has been struggling mightily. No idea what the hell happened to Bummer. -

Where's Grandal again? Is he hurt or being held back for unlikely event Collins gets hurt? -

Is that three or four blown saves now? The Mariners game, pretty sure we gave up that lead in the 6th... -

Colome not doing much better...but Jesus this bullpen was overrated or got too full of themselves. -

How are we okay sitting Grandal but not applying the wet grounds rationalization for Vaughn in LF? Simply because of LHP vs. RHB? -

Simply 4-D chess. And LaRussa really knew all along how good Mercedes was...so told Hahn, we don’t need no stinkin’ Nelson Cruz or “Hector/food guys” updates around here! -
Not sure Rick Hahn’s own PR firm would make that kind of claim with a straight face...it’s about like saying the Bears will have a Pro Bowl QB in the next three seasons, simply wishing it into existence.

It depends on those 4-5 starting pitching prospects (including our new Cuban hurler, Vera)...moving like guys such as Hudson and McCarthy over 2-3 levels in past years. Then there’s Lambert and Stiever. Other than Burger/Sheets and the usual OF suspects, not much to be excited about in AA/AAA. Lots of interesting pieces, but nothing that looks close to automatic. Then Cespedes and eventually Colas should give a slight boost if they come quickly. LaRussa seemed to be quite high on catcher Carlos Perez, in particular. Could be a late bloomer and backup catcher someday. Still just 24 but lots of time in the minors where he had struggled to put up more than a 650ish OPS. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=190178

Haniger is the logical move, with the Mariners’ future outfield of Kelenic, Lewis, Rodriguez and perhaps Trammell if he can hit well enough. It’s too late for them to make any kind of run with him and Seager. But the cost is going to be higher than many are expecting. Same with Ketel Marte. Gallo, etc. Of course, you have the next tier or two down, guys like Tauchman or David Dahl.

That roster from 2002-2006 and this one have very little in common. Back then, they had the best defense, bullpen and speed to take advantage of the Metrodome. Arraez would fit on that roster, and Simmons, and Buxton, but the core is big bopper power hitting and a front two of Berrios and Maeda,

After 8 games, who's doing well and who isn't?
caulfield12 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
JR. That said, if TLR’s still around, the odds are probably 50/50. But, when we start piling up the risk with Grandal, Keuchel, Lynn, Abreu...if two of them fall off a cliff, then what? Unless we can expand payroll into the $145-165 million range, we’re likely to be an incomplete team. So the only way to overcome a mid tier payroll is relatively simple: Robert, Moncada and one of Kopech/Crochet have to be stars. -

Who are you planning to replace Lynn (2022) and then Giolito with? Kopech will be one, but who else? -
They’re losing their Top 4 this year in terms of eligibility, and it was already a pretty top heavy system. 15-18 if we’re lucky, low to mid 20’s if not.

Mendick is not perceived within the organization as much more than a supersub. Just like Engel and Leury, they have their runs where they look like they could even be starters, but the White Sox aren’t going to bench a high first round draft pick for him. I suppose you could argue they’re benching Vaughn for Yermin as well, but that’s an entirely out of this world run he has been on.
-
More referring to PGA ratings...but yeah, it’s one of the best social distancing, escape from reality options.
-
Mercedes doesn’t have much value until he can prove over 3-4 months that he can sustain this... He has more value to the White Sox until Vaughn/Collins prove themselves...and/or Jimenez returns at full health.
-
Based on the Melvin Capital episode, not sure if Cohen is brilliant, stubborn, both or neither...if nothing else, he’s making headlines for the team.
-
Well, maybe we need a thread extolling the positive attributes of Leury Garcia and how we don’t appreciate him enough as the longest tenured member of the White Sox...

Gambling legalization and MLB Advanced Media/BAM Tech are making up for some of that. Luckily, outside of the country, no blackouts. But there was always that issue in Eastern Iowa. There is still the Fox Saturday games? Actually, the Quad Cities they had many Cardinals and White Sox games on free t.v., but those same games weren’t available on cable or satellite. We shall see what happens when T-Mobile comes after the cable companies...but the way young people consume baseball is constantly changing and evolving, more to phones, iPads and big screen tv’s at home. Also, men are living longer and enjoying more leisure years in retirement than in the 1950’s and 60’s, so more time and resources to consume product. Baseball is unique, providing twice as much live content as the NBA and 10x than football, and the costs are still much more reasonable than a 16-22/23 episode scripted television program.
-
Well, he might get complacent if he sees too many positive, overly contented White Sox fans...we’ve already fallen to 20th. Thanks, Florida!
