  1. Back today off the 10 day DL. Hitting second in highly anticipated rematch with the Dodgers. First seven hitters for the Dodgers range from 974 ops all the way up to Turner’s 1.321...crazy.
  2. We need a new thread about how we almost signed Ronald Acuna, Jr. That guy is in a stratosphere of his own right now.
  3. Also, keep in mind Fenway has one of the lowest by actual numbers allowed attendance so pushing it back into later in the season when we’re in NY, Balt or possibly TOR wouldn’t be completely unheard of. Otoh, they’re not going to be any hotter than winning 9/10...perhaps depends on who their DH pitching options are as well.
  4. Feel like we say this about Collins every year because of his walk rates. That said, they’re not in the same stratosphere as hitting prospects. Or, if they are, we’re in just a bit of trouble.
  5. Quintana was amazing for most of 2012 and helped carry their unexpected charge at the Tigers. He was one of the best #2/3 starters in baseball until 2017, when things started to go south. Arguably, on some bottom 10 teams, he would have been the ace or best pitcher. But a solid #2, definitely. His weak points were not always going long in games (past the 5th or 6th, especially near the end of his Sox career), and not being able to put away hitters because he lacked one true "plus" strikeout pitch that he could always call forth in pressure situations. Always overlooked because he was never a dominant stuff pitcher, but got by on guile, location and was in many ways similar to Mark Buehrle (or a Glavine with less control), except for sometimes slowing down the game a bit more with runners on base.
  6. Uh-oh. Sox losses always lead to conflagrations, it's almost getting to be more entertaining than the games themselves.
  7. https://medium.com/curious/cancel-them-all-the-world-would-do-just-fine-with-fewer-influencers-22bcb8ac99b8 For the Millennials on the board to read/discuss. Those of us in the over 50 crowd (albeit barely) are not quite getting this whole self-absorbed phenomenon which grows by the day. How long before they add this major at credible universities? Or it's considered a legitimate career aspiration to proudly announce to one's parents?
  8. I can't imagine Eloy not making any of those plays in the no-hit game, although he might have had the "deer in the headlights" initial reaction to the Jose Ramirez liner and let it get over his head somehow.
  9. Warren Buffett would always argue you should do the opposite of the madding crowd...
  10. If we didn't already have Bummer, and granted, he hasn't been Mr. Reliable...it would be more of a priority to have that additional LHR. Because right now, he's already pacing himself like a starter, or there's something wrong with either his mechanics/confidence or an actual physical problem. He is certainly not the same pitcher we saw down the stretch in 2020. We can theoretically chalk it up to the cold weather and being used to pitching in SEC heat/humidity in the springtime...so we will just have to monitor him as the season progresses. Agree that getting him ready to replace Lynn/Rodon SHOULD be the priority. If nothing else, we could throw Lopez into the pen and see how he does, but they apparently prefer the limited bursts from Burdi for now.
  11. Turned off the feed as soon as the Abreu Kopech fiasco at first and went back to sleep. Still have way too many defensive issues to be ironed out. The clean game last night totally feels like such an anomaly in the emerging narrative of this early season. The bullpen continues to be perplexing, just like challenging one of the top five hitters in the AL with 1B open. Maybe Lynn thought a reliever would come into the game if he walked Ramirez?
  12. Or Moncada is the old Moncada... or Abreu is the old Abreu.
  13. Abreu had the play of the game last night, but hard to praise his defense too much today. Going on the road to Boston, Cleveland, etc., will start to tell us a lot more about this team's ability to go an extended run or merely tread water waiting for the lineup we originally imagined with Eloy. But Eloy as exalted & redeeming savior after his 4 month ethereal vacation isn't something anyone in the front office should be counting on.
  14. Arraez >>> Madrigal
  15. Colome escaped with his typical tight rope act in the top of the 9th...tied 3-3 still. Indians were hitting .195 entering the game...interesting no throw there at first. Poor grip on ball? Eaton pushed off bag play that would have been 2nd and 3rd, no outs looms large. Offense continues to look like total garbage.
  16. 6 2/3 scoreless for Kopech, 11 k’s.
  17. Crochet hasn’t given up an MLB earned run.... First White Sox pitcher with 10+ k’s and no walks in consecutive starts in Sox history for Lynn.
  18. Crochet entering...
  19. Yeah, just checked it. Bottom of the 8th, tie game. Now first and second, no outs for Minny.
  20. You knew the CG was going to take something out of him...pretty much inevitable.
  21. Should have pitched around Ramirez...
  22. Twins just blew 3-0 lead, 2 out, 3-2 count bases clearing double by Verdugo off Taylor Rogers in the 8th...tied now, chance to take lead. Seven game winning streak vs. five game losing streaks on the line.
  23. Wow, Acuna has seven homers already, but the Braves are still struggling... Luis Robert is starting to come around recently, but this feels like pretty much every single White Sox game with runners in scoring pitching. On the plus side, the bullpen is as rested as possible. Arguing getting rusty with all the great starting pitching performances.
  24. The latest CDC numbers reinforce these reports. So far, 14 states have administered less than 75 percent of the doses distributed to them (in ascending order): Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, Alaska, Wyoming, Louisiana, Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Indiana and South Carolina. Among them, only Hawaii has at least partially vaccinated a larger share of its residents than the national average (about 37 percent). At the other end of the spectrum, 20 states have administered more than 80 percent of the doses distributed to them (again, in ascending order): Pennsylvania, Washington, Nebraska, Virginia, Connecticut, Colorado, Nevada, New York, Vermont, Iowa, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Utah, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Rhode Island, North Dakota, Minnesota, Maine and New Hampshire. Among them, only North Dakota, Utah and Nevada have at least partially vaccinated a smaller share of their residents than the national average. https://www.yahoo.com/news/america-is-about-to-hit-a-vaccine-wall-as-demand-drops-with-or-without-johnson-johnson-162241805.html
