Outfield Moves if No Harper
You're joking with this, right? Denard Span of 7-8 years ago would be amazing...not a 34 year old veteran who can't reliably play CF anymore. We don't need any more corner outfielders who aren't going to be part of the next playoff roster, period, the end.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
So much for our scenario of Harper being best-suited for an AL team where he can also play 1B and DH.

Water carrying from the white sox community
That's rational enough, from an accounting/cost-benefit analysis standpoint and would be fine if we lost Machado and Harper to the Giants, Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox and even the Astros. But that's not the case here. The Padres have three deals on the books worth more than their franchise, arguably. The White Sox are worth roughly $1.8-2.2 billion on the open market and have never secured a deal for more than $68 million in 118 years or whatever it is of franchise history.

The question is whether Jerry Reinsdorf actually cares how he is perceived by the "common" fans? Or even the rich dude from Windy City Limousine who goes to all the sporting events in his yellow M&M's jacket.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
In the end, we didn't have two prospects close to Miller (as a starter then out of UNC, and top draft pick) and Cameron Maybin. No doubt taking on Willis' contract was part of that...but not THE biggest single element.

Water carrying from the white sox community
It's hard to even get TOO bent out of shape slandering Jay and Alonso...was Hahn actually expecting them to lie if they'd had positive experiences with the Padres' organization and city?

Water carrying from the white sox community
Everyone is getting sensitive around here at the moment, but surely it wasn't you...and just as surely it isn't going to end anytime soon if/when Machado signs elsewhere. Sounds like more of a general statement that those like Chris Rongey, Merkin, Reifert, McKnight, our Chuck and WSD are always going to error on the side of "career preservation" than killing the golden goose.

If we keep wasting money on veteran stopgap FA’s, we’re going to catch up to that average rather quickly. And “average” or mediocre is exactly what the team will be although 81-81 would be a miracle. DJ’s living in fantasyland, predicted 85 wins and a 23 win increase because some team went from last to first in the last couple of seasons (probably the Cubs or Astros). ”But they need to teach the young players how to win and conduct themselves professionally!” Okay...

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
More autographed Hillerich & Bradsby bats for his personal collection.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
I think if given the choice between Harper/Boras and a Jordan Bell redo, he’d go with the latter 100% of the time.

Did the Whitesox make a mistake not forcing a decision?
Still could have taken Kimbrel, Keuchel and arguably Pollock and “3/4th’s assed it” instead of half-assed it like normally...

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
ReyLo, not at all. Look at his last 6-8 weeks, he looked like a 2/3 guy if he can start missing more bats and picking up the K rate. Rodon 100% has not yet turned any kind of corner. He oscillates between future HoF, backend starter/fantasy league depth piece or the disabled list. Just no extended consistency over a 2-3 month timeframe. Mechanics are not repeatable. Too many walks. Trouble holding baserunners. Eminently Hittable fastball when he’s not getting the slider over, behind in counts or throwing it at 91-94 instead of 95-98.

4-5 years ago is more like it...

2/25 CWS vs. SFG
They might end up regretting not getting the best trade return for Jace Fry last year...we’ll see. The dreaded ST tie game, at least we got a point in the standings if that was a thing.

Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
“Machado is very talented! But there’s no guarantee he’ll continue his “HOF trajectory” at 34. A 5-year deal with an AAV between $30 & $35 million would make more sense. With his questionable character, not sure he’d be the guy to help mentor the young prospects.” Then why the f#$k didn’t they offer the opt out and front load the contract to avoid that EXACT situation...of having him play years 6-10 in Chicago?

2/25 CWS vs. SFG
Has something quite similar to Santiago’s screwball as well...
-
2/25 CWS vs. SFG
Madrigal flew out to RF with his red bat...
-
2/25 CWS vs. SFG
He also called out the Blue Jays for letting their players do whatever the heck they want to...referred to quality of people in SF vs. Oakland, if he was the Iowa BB announcer he’d probably get suspended (because he has a running beef with McCaffrey over recruiting and lack of athleticism in recruiting)
-
2/25 CWS vs. SFG
Nope, just DJ and Farmer.
-
2/25 CWS vs. SFG
Moncada single the other way with two strikes...Tucker punches one up the middle and then Robert lashes a triple to LF somehow down in the count. 2-1 Sox.
-
2/25 CWS vs. SFG
Moncada made a really nice defensive play on a ball deflected to him at 3B off the pitcher...
-
Harper to Phillies 13yr/330 mil
That won’t change until after 2021, at the earliest.
-
2/25 CWS vs. SFG
Cubs/Padres the same...no Machado still. Jimenez strikes out swinging against noted fireballer Holland. Seemed to be off balance the entire at-bat, fouled it off on the one good pitch he had to drive and was pretty upset with himself. Don't think I will care much all season long about Castillo at-bats. Inning over, two stranded after Abreu walked.

2/25 CWS vs. SFG
I’m pretty sure now everyone will rally around John Jay since he’s honoring Michael Jordan with jersey #45...and the game begins with a weak grounder up the middle that Solarte makes a nice play on. DJ said that they’re not really busting it down the line this early in ST. Anderson reaches on an error to SS on a moderately difficult grounder. WGN radio only carrying 11 spring training games...seems a bit light.

2/25 CWS vs. SFG
Lol at just the last names Jimenez and Sanchez at MLB.com...am not seeing any vid available unless it’s at SFG website. MLB is covering the Giants’ broadcast...too early in ST for Jon Miller to show up.
