  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 06:37 PM) And it’s not like he’s a finished product or anything. All hope is lost. Tyler Flowers finally put up some decent numbers with the Braves the last couple of seasons.
  2. Tip your cap. How close was he on the previous fastball that he fouled off? At least he's timing 96-97 mph stuff.
  3. Always better to wait at least 54-60 games to make ANY early assessments (Hawkism). Except for Engel, perhaps...and Gonzalez might need to switch with Santiago/Volstad or be released outright if he keeps this up. That said, they probably don't want to throw Danish, Beck, Volstad or Guerrero/Stephens into the starting mix just yet.
  4. The same reason it gets bumped when he has multiple strikeout games?
  5. 728 OPS. Crisis temporarily avoided. (Maybe he needs free giveaway crowds for inspiration.)
  6. Ohtani 93-95 MPH out of the gate at home against the Red Sox...down from the upper 90's last time out (pitching on 8 day's rest). And Betts homers on a 97.4 MPH fastball.
  7. Is De Sedas even in the Top 15 these days on most lists?
  8. What free agent catchers are available after 2019? Here's the list for after THIS year, depending on what happens with Castillo (maybe he goes to DH part time)? Drew Butera (35) Robinson Chirinos (35) — $2.375MM club option with a $100K buyout A.J. Ellis (38) Tyler Flowers (33) that would be hilarious if we brought him back into the fold Yasmani Grandal (30) Nick Hundley (35) Jonathan Lucroy (33) Martin Maldonado (32) Jeff Mathis (36) Brian McCann (35) — $15MM club/player option Devin Mesoraco (31) Miguel Montero (35) Wilson Ramos (31) Rene Rivera (35) Kurt Suzuki (35) Matt Wieters (33) source: mlbtraderumors.com
  9. I'm 98% sure it's a problem related to editing/correcting posts with an I-pad. I don't have this issue at school when I'm using a Lenovo PC. Maybe it's something to do with iOS, or something to do with the fact that I have an older I-pad Pro, not sure. I doubt it can be blamed on the Chinese internet censors or "Great Firewall of China." EDITS POST, NO WEIRD ALIEN HIEROGLYPHICS SHOW UP ALL OVER THE PLACE
  10. As long as Rutherford's BA/OBP are solid...I wouldn't worry too much about the power, YET.
  11. Dear Mods, when you go back in and edit a completed post...you get those weird symbols for the quotation marks and especially any apostrophes when the post reloads.

  13. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...-sox/522499002/ Last night was barely 7,500 in Oakland...as for tonight?€™s free admission offer: ?€œIt?€™s important to understand this is a one-time event. You only turn 50 once,?€™?€™ Kaval said. ?€œThe way I look at it, we?€™re giving back to the community. We?€™re going to have a great fun time at the ballpark together and we?€™re going to get a lot of people excited about the very bright future of A?€™s baseball in Oakland.?€™?€™ The A?€™s recent past has been bleak, with three consecutive last-place finishes, and the prospects for this season don?€™t look much better. Even more troubling for the fans has been the team?€™s penchant for trading away its stars just as they?€™re about to start getting expensive. In the last few years alone, the list of players who fit that profile includes Josh Donaldson, Yoenis Cespedes, Sonny Gray and Josh Reddick. On top of that, the club has explored moving to Fremont, some 25 miles to the south, and also further south to San Jose, as it seeks to build a new ballpark. An ownership group now trying to bring a big league team to Portland is sure to look into the A?€™s availability, even as the team proclaims it?€™s ?€œrooted in Oakland.?€™?€™ That instability has eroded a fan base that has long been known for its devotion, if not necessarily its large numbers. ?€œTheir problems are bigger than giving away free tickets and diminishing any kind of value,?€™?€™ said Bob Dorfman, a sports marketing expert based in San Francisco. ?€œ(The free admission) certainly could build interest in the team with casual fans who may not otherwise go to a game. They may take this opportunity to be there for this is and say, ?€˜Hey, this is a better experience than I thought.?€™?€™?€™ Dorfman points out the A?€™s wouldn?€™t typically draw a big crowd on a Tuesday night ?€“ likely in the 10,000-12,000 range ?€“ so it?€™s not like they?€™re forsaking a large payout. That?€™s part of the reason he likes the freebie initiative, though the larger issues remain. ?€œI think the intentions are good,?€™?€™ Dorfman said. ?€œUltimately, it?€™s got to come down to a better, consistent team and a cool place to play.?€™?€™ Since Kaval?€™s arrival in November 2016, the A?€™s have taken steps to make the Coliseum more appealing, improving the food offerings at the concession stands, setting up an outdoor plaza with food trucks and establishing unique new sections such as the Treehouse and the Farm. The club has also focused its search for a stadium locale in Oakland, and plans to announce a site by the end of the year after its top location option became unavailable in December. The expected revenue from a new ballpark, with a hoped-for opening date in 2023, would be critical for the A?€™s hopes of holding on to talented young players like third baseman Matt Chapman, first baseman Matt Olson and lefty Sean Manaea, instead of continuing the practice of trading them away. ?€œWe want to make sure they?€™re the players who open the new ballpark,?€™?€™ Kaval said. ?€œWe have a great young nucleus. We?€™re doing everything we can to make sure we can lock them up and they can be here for a long time. That?€™s not something that happens overnight, but that is a commitment.?€™?€™ Another article https://www.sfgate.com/athletics/article/Me...re-12839533.php The Jed Lowrie quote is telling...
  14. I think you mean enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title...
  15. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 06:55 AM) Except for all the key issues that he's voted with Dems on under the Trump administration of course. Thanks for proving me right about Berners. Would you rather have someone who votes with you 70-80% of the time, or 0% of the time? https://heavy.com/news/2017/02/joe-manchin-...t-virginia-bio/
  16. Avi Garcia down to a 593 OPS line...
  17. Engel must have heard me...not that raising his ops to 527 with a 2/3 game is going to change the overall plotline. I guess with 2 k's now the Moncada Talk is back in gear for tomorrow.

  19. Vizquel will be the manager of the next White Sox playoff team... And how low must Engel go statistically before he gives way to Leury for the majority of playing time? Like Wilson Betemit, Josh Fields and Ryan Sweeney, at least they had their spring training glory.
  20. So much for this game... Sox turn of the century disasters on the West Coast immediately come to mind (Ana/Sea/Oak Death March).
  21. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/compare-yoan-m...-012809345.html For some reason, they decided to compare the start of Paul Konerko's career to Yoan's...because they are completely similar players with similar backgrounds, lol
  22. What was the joke? Benetti is getting to be either a negative distraction or (positive spin) something else to discuss beside the putrid hitting with RISP...
