  1. Thanks Tim Anderson, for screwing up Yoan's defensive ratings, lol... I'm starting to buy into Benetti and Stone's "team error" concept. Anderson (wrongly) cut across in front of Moncada's path and screened him and it ended up allowing Vogelbach to be safe at first to load the bases, but the error went to Yoan when he was really the only one in a good position to make the play...but is the one who actually "touched" the ball, so the physical error goes to him (instead of mental error to Anderson.) Communication. Youth. Teamwork. Hopefully it will all come together in time.
  2. It's almost like that scene at the end of Field of Dreams with the father coming back to play catch with son...but his 25-30 year old version...have seen that particular photo before, but it's a cool piece of baseball history. Of course, Lou Gehrig played for Columbia, but that was a decade (at least) prior.
  3. Except Trey M. is playing 2B also these days. There's not much future at that position in the White Sox organization. Theoretically, he and Alvarez are fighting to replace Leury as the next jack of all trades/utility guy...but that easily could be Carlos Sanchez if we acquire a Josh Donaldson type.
  4. Winston-Salem DH tmrw Cease vs. Dan Plesac's son (7 inning Game 1 starts at 530 EST, 430 CST)
  5. When Volstad is basically averaging right around the same velocity in his start after being a journeyman for the last decade...it's about more than throwing fastballs at less than full max effort to get more movement and control. In fact, it ironically seems to be making his control even worse. Strikeouts are way down, and that's because he has been behind in counts (until last start IP/H ratio was fine)...and hasn't been able to get swings and misses with his offspeed stuff. The SINGLE biggest issue is walking almost a batter per inning. He's well over his walk total of 2017 in the big leagues with barely 20 innings pitched this year so far.
  6. Collins now 4/41 on the season, but that's actually BIG progress, comparatively or relatively... Hopefully this gets him jump-started.
  7. Unless you separate Opening Day from his stats...of course, you can make almost any hitter good or bad by eliminating hot stretches or slumps. And, obviously, if he was able to spread that offense out over 3 victories, it would be more ideal, but that's not the way baseball works.
  8. Reddy, nobody HATES Pelosi or Harry Reid or Schumer or whoever. However, if they can be effectively targeted by the right to mobilize voters and win elections simply by brandishing their names to the base, then that's something of a problem, isn't it? It's the same thing as your political strategy in all races being centered around attacking Trump without any substantive policy platform for the middle class to back it up. In general, we NEED NEW BLOOD. Warren, Sanders, Pelosi, Reid (now gone), Feinstein...all of them are to be respected for their contributions, but their time has come and gone.
  9. If they really feel they're CLOSE to competing, then you pull the trigger on Donaldson...but I'd be leery about giving him anything beyond a 3 year deal. That's also assuming (a big unknown right now) that Carlos Sanchez isn't a long-term solution at 3rd. Of course, Donaldson as he ages can spend more and more time at 1B/DH, but you don't want to do that until his body forces that, because he has so much more value defensively at third.
  10. Collins has a three-run double tonight at least...
  11. Every hitter in baseball is going to struggle in those shadows. Why do you think Volstad had such a good start? Nothing to really take from this game, in terms of performances, other than encouragement that Moncada continues to make strides, this time with a hard hit ball against LHP.
  12. Dumb to start the game at that time...suicide for hitters. (The only other similar start is 3 p.m. against the Cubs later in the season.) Anderson had two hits, but that he also screwed up the momentum of the game getting picked off and also screwed up a Moncada defensive play late...fortunately, that didn't lead to any additional runs. Youth.
  13. Josh Donaldson, haha. Have said all along they’ll have to add one veteran starting pitcher...something between the Cubs with Lester and Royals with Shields. So much is dependent on Rodon. And the certainty about Giolito being much more than a middle of the rotation guy is tumbling a bit. Of course, Lopez looks better than Q, so that probably balances out over time as well. That still leaves Kopech, Hansen, Cease, maybe Dunning and draft pick/s as frontline TOR guys (Dunning was always perceived to be more 3/4 or even 5, at least when we acquired him. That perception has evolved slightly.)
  14. Since (young) people today hate reading so much, perhaps pictures-only would be more palatable for some...but no, I was not deliberately trying to include the pictures, per se. That said, it also takes more time to go back in and edit/clean up everything that gets pulled from a page when you copy and paste using this updated site platform.
  15. Complete confidence, no. They deserve to see things through until that position no longer becomes tenable...but you could almost say the same thing for the ownership group as well at this particular point in time. I wish I could find the stat again...it was about Top 3 or Top 5 ranked Baseball America milb systems (in the past) not to eventually lead to a playoff appearance in the subsequent/trailing 3-5 years, and there might have been only one team not to make it following that recognition going back to 2000 or so. Not saying just a single playoff team from 2019-24 would qualify the Sox rebuild as a success...but a starting point, at least.
  16. Alcantara, Ruggiano and Franklin Gutierrez are the only potential veteran CF options out there, fwiw.
  17. Yes, we continue to be 100x more consumed by Middle Eastern and African/Islamic terrorists...
  18. Not faster than Hamilton or Buxton, but he’s right up there....
  19. http://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/yo-yo-and-big-elephant-now-show-south-side-fans-have-been-waiting Yo-Yo and The Big Elephant (Abreu) Not to be confused with BJ and the Bear.
  20. Why do we care about Venom again...he looks like a spin off from Aliens mashed up with the monsters from Annihilation and The Quiet Place.
  21. 741 as rhb in Charlotte, 2017 691 as rhb in AA, 2016 797 as rhb in High A, 2016 951 as rhb in Greenville, Sally League, 2015 By the way, 0.8 bWAR right now...not 0.5, 6.4 extrapolated out for a full season (0.8 x 8) 8 fWAR for full season...
  22. If he lives up to his billing, our scouting looks better...mostly, though, it’s because Keith Law was all over starting that bandwagon. And couldn’t we say the same about Carlos Sanchez? Why am I responsible for Preller’s decision when I said fom the beginning it would be a huge jump up for him?
  23. 633 ops as rhb in 71 atbats 776 ops as lhb in 147 ab’s (730 overall) Not as dramatic as Jose Valentin...
  24. At the very least, Moustakas would be earning his money as a DH or 1B at those salary numbers, there's certainly no arguing that point with how well he's produced (offensively alone) so far this year. The only one to be blocked would theoretically be Davidson (or possibly Delmonico). That said, there's no reason they can't go after him again this next off-season.
