  1. It is when you use the last pitcher in your bullpen against Adrian Gonzalez in the late innings when you're only down 4-3.
  2. I actually thought first of the former White Sox minor league relief pitcher (Josh Fields)....maybe he came from the Giants?
  3. 1) Tyler Flowers is never, ever going to be the starting catcher for the Chicago White Sox. That passed ball was inexcusable. Without it, the game would have been tied 3-3 in the late innings. You have to block that pitch, turn your glove to get under it...just lazy or horrible fundamentals/indecision. You can tell Ozzie doesn't trust him, as AJ has played in, what, 27 consecutive games? If the runners were kept at 1st/2nd, then Pedroia's single/"double" leads to just that one run and the Gonzalez grounder to 2B probably ends up in a double play and out of the inning. 2) Alex Rios and Gordon Beckham need a new hitting coach. Beckham will never, ever be able to hit any fastball over 92-93 MPH. If they won't change out Greg Walker, they should just send Beckham to AAA so that he can totally re-engineer his swing with a different coach/perspective. Everyone knows the mechanical issues with the loop/hitch. It sucks sucks sucks we didn't trade him for Adrian Gonzalez when we could have. If we had Gonzo and Konerko, then no Dunn as well. 3) Dunn should never be hitting 3-4-5 against LHP. He will strike out either 3 or 4 times against Sabathia tomorrow night, and undoubtedly the White Sox will be 3 games under .500 and within a week of getting wiped out unofficially in Minnesota. 4) Alex Rios, a game after making one of the most lackadaisically inept plays in the history of outfield play, did something similar today. The only reason it wasn't so glaring is because the run didn't eventually score. On Pedroia's single to LCF, Rios ONCE AGAIN made a horrible throw to the wrong place and let Dustin LASER LIGHT SHOW end up on 2nd base. Inexcusable fundamentals. We don't hold any of the veterans on this team responsible...just lip service. Everyone just does whatever they want to do. Alexei Ramirez could be one of the best overall SS's in the game and he just consistently has bad at-bats with runners in scoring position. What happened to the Ramirez of 2008? Yeah, I know he got a single today to drive in the go-ahead run, but he should be a GREAT player, and he's just a very good one. 5) Chris Sale has been excellent, but we need to begin his career as a starter beginning as soon as next week. 6) There's just ZERO EXCUSE why your 3rd lefty is facing Adrian Gonzalez with only a 4-3 lead in the late innings. PATHETIC. HORRIBLE. We were remarking last night, why the heck are they wasting Thornton in a meaningless came, and of course it came back to bite Ozzie in the butt. 7) Welcome, Yankees fans!! It must be embarassing to JR and KW that your own home fans were drowned out by cries of YOUK and "boos" for Alex Rios and Adam Dunn moreso than cheers. Get ready for four more games that continue to exhibit how very few White Sox fans are willing to be pay exorbidant, sky high, jacked up ticket prices for what is a clearly inferior product. 8) We're going to regret not trading Quentin, Danks, Floyd, Ramirez and Thornton when we had a chance...the payoff in the offseason won't be as good. Quentin and Danks will both be 2 months closer to free agency. Quentin and Ramirez are never going to get any better in terms of situational hitting with Greg Walker. 9) I'm officially changing my position on Rick Hahn as of today. I heard from a former Harvard Law School classmate of his that he was the biggest, yuppiest Cubs fan in the world and also known as the hugest prick possible in his group. Say what you want about Guillen and Williams, at least they've always bled White Sox Black. Goodbye, you're out with Williams and Guillen. Never can I stomach a Cubs fan running the White Sox.
  4. 28,278 Disappointing they didn't get at least 30K.
  5. 100 pitches....great play by Lillibridge at a new position, glad Teahen's not over there. Crain warming up. Crawford will be running soon. Just keep him off 3rd.
  6. Great play by Morel. It's just a shame that Rios/Dunn/Beckham are so offensively challenged or we could really be patient with this kid. Unfortunately, every single player in that line-up's pressing because those guys aren't coming through enough. Indians with yet another run in the last 3 innings. 4-3 now with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th. Soria's got to be freaking out knowing he's coming in again versus the Cardiac/Comeback Kids.
  7. Diamondbacks got Brad Ziegler from the A's. That really will solidify their bullpen. We'll see if the Braves can hold everyone off now.
  8. So Pierre/Quentin/Dunn/Rios? Murderer's Row, 2011 Version.
  9. Angels had 2 chances to tie it but couldn't come through, Callaspo and Aybar. 3 1/2 GB. Anyone want to predict how the Indians will end up beating the Royals? 4-2 KC, bottom of the 8th in CLE.
  10. Our offense is really handicapped now without Konerko. Why, why, why can't we ever get a 2 or 3 run scoring hit with the bases loaded?
  11. Of course. How many times this season in the 2nd half have we absolutely just broken a game wide open? Nothing comes easy in 2011.
  12. Elevation, please. No DP ball, Paulie.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) I approve of this upcoming bunt Thanks Optimus Prime.
  14. It will be interesting to see if Leyland goes back to Verlander at 114 pitches in the 9th or to Valverde. You know Verlander wants to finish that game, which is still just a one-hitter.
  15. 3-2 Tigers now, no hitter gone on Izturis hit. Tigers looking like the White Sox last night defensively. Everything's going against them after the Guillen bad karma. It's a rule of baseball.
  16. Angels scored....Bourjos with a hit or groundout/sac fly? Fielder's choice, somehow the runner scored from 3rd and Bourjos flew around to 2nd. 1 out in the 8th, 3-1 Tiggers.
  17. Aybar broke up the no hitter? Or an error? Verlander has five errors this season. Shades of 2006 post-season or Clayton Richard. 2 walks to McDonald? Really???
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) LOL what are you watching? That's not what happened at all. -Weaver misses on a close pitch, wasn't happy. -Guillen then parks the next pitch. He then stares Weaver down. -Ump issues a warning BEFORE the next pitch is even thrown, LOL. -Weaver then throws at Avila's head. Tossed instantly. Not watching, MLB Gameday, lol. Listening to Sox, trying to type and watch Gameday with Verlander no-hitter simultaneously. I saw the homer and Avila's name (since he was hitting) and didn't realize it was one batter earlier w/ Guillen. Buehrle needs to be more economical. Over 60 pitches through 3 innings. In 95 degree heat.
  19. Well...at least Rios did SOMETHING. 4 RBI's now in the last 6 weeks. Three straight hits, keep the line moving. Miller is like Chris Sale without the stuff.
  20. Jared Weaver just got ejected for arguing with the ump. Avila bomb makes it 3-0. That kid's a real difference maker for the Tigers. Very few teams get that production out of the catching position, and so cheaply. Correction, Carlos Guillen. But Avila's great. 3rd hit for Dunn against LHP. Rios, it's guaranteed, will fail.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) lol what? Humber not going 5 innings was the culprit last night. And Boston has a good offensive team, you knew they would try and wear him down to get at him. Humber really didn't get hit that hard. Two infield singles, pretty bad defense/shoddy play behind him. AJ having ZERO ability to control the running game. He did get a bit rattled, but hey, it's the Red Sox. He'll learn over time. That's the one encouraging thing. He watched the video of his performance and was actually pleased with his pitch execution and location. Just that a lot of the breaks he'd been getting the first 3 months have started going against him now.
  22. Scherzer and Porcello have pitched very well recently...after the firing of their pitching coach, Knapp. Penny's sucked, but with Fister now at the back end, they're solidified. Pauley will make a HUGE difference for their pen. Whatever happens, I'm an Indians fan after the Sox. Don't want the Tigers to make it, definitely hate the Twins the most. The only question is whether their offense can hold it together waiting on Choo/Sizemore to return. Still think that there's something wrong with Jimenez and he won't be the difference maker they actually need. I almost wish we'd gotten that package back from the Indians for Danks, but it wouldn't have been as good....and we just can't trade Danks in the division unless the return was absolutely insane. And CLE could never afford to extend him, so it would have been a non-starter.
  23. LOL at Farmer...talking about Andrew McCarthy in 2005 pitching for the Sox against BOS. Fathom, are you ready to throw in the towel on Lillibridge for the rest of 2011 yet? Verlander at 92 pitches through 7. Flowers actually has some pretty decent speed for a guy that size. Surprising. Viciedo's pretty similar. E-5. Ooops, Morel giveth and taketh away.
  24. Misplay by Ellsbury. Verlander with 2 BB's, no hits yet through 6.1. Indians now down 3-2 to KC.
