I'm thinking with budgets stretched...we might be forced to deal Thornton or Danks instead of spending money on free agents. Theoretically, we could make a trade, but it's very hard to do that from our minor league system. As far as Danks goes, he's a VERY good pitcher, but no way I think about paying him Sabathia or even Lester money. He's really come up with some pretty horrible outings now against the Twins (twice) and Yankees that gave us little to no chance to stay in those games. A lot depends on what happens with Sale. With Threets now out of the picture, our LHR situation is cloudy with zero depth behind Thornton if Sale becomes a starter. For next year, everything is predicated on Peavy being healthy. Then Sale probably spends one more year in the bullpen.

Nick Blackburn comes into that game with something like a 7 ERA and now he's Cy Young against the Mariners. Between the A's and Mariners' offenses, that's a lot of suckage. Can't imagine sitting through 18 games between those two teams as an announcer. I guess the positive would be the fact those games would be over pretty quickly...unless they went to extra innings with neither team scoring.

Have you noticed how badly Fuentes has pitched this year? He's not worth the money he will be making...besides the fact that he seems to blame the fans in LA for his failures (see article at yahoo sports)

http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/angels...o-orange-county Fuentes won't be closing any games with Capps around...UNLESS there were three left-handed hitters in a row due up.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) i dont care what anyone says linebrink has looked decent lately....if there wasnt a blown call right there he wouldnt have given up the 2 run shot...not his fault That change-up to Swisher just hung over the middle of the plate and then faded right into an area where Swisher could punch it out and use the wind to his benefit. Thankfully, the wind really killed that ball Cano hit into RCF or it would have been tied 4-4 and perhaps a different result. -

Have to question that radar gun. Linebrink had one up there at 97. Yankees' announcers said Burnett has never been at 96 consistently this year. Garcia at 91? Mariners get one run back, now a 2-1 deficit. -

Going against Sabathia and Nova or Nava (whatever his name is), we have our work cut out the next two games... And Minnesota doesn't have to face Felix (who they beat last time anyway). -

Too bad Threets can't seem to stay healthy. He could be a very important part of our pen next year...seems he should also try to pick up the target a little earlier, maybe that's one facet of his control problems. Doesn't really look at the target until after he's already started his delivery. Seems easy to fix. -

Somehow Cervelli has 10 errors in limited play at catcher. Considering the Yankees have the best record in the majors, it's looking like Boston will be only 4.5 game behind both the Rays and Yankees. They have absolutely no clue what to do with Burnett (7 ERA and no wins in August) and if Pettite can't come back, things will get very very interesting in the final 2-3 weeks. -

Na na ha ha, hey hey hey goodbye Burnett. Underachieving as usual. -

Can't believe Pierre has his OBP all the way up to 350 now. One of those years where we're underachieving, our Pythagorean record is 71-56. Nice throw SWISHER!!! That's 2 really bad mistakes from him in the OF, plus a couple of weak 4-3 Kotsay-esque groundouts. -

Not exactly one of the fastest paced games in the history of MLB. I guess that's good for our vendors and concessionaires, lol. Need to save that money for Manny. Freddy Garcia's nickname "The Chief" comes from the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest character? I didn't know that... -

Ball's not flying tonight, thought off the bat that Cano's ball might be gone. BTW, the White Sox are tied for 2nd in MLB in quality starts with the Cardinals at 78. Oakland is #1 with 83. Too bad they have an offense that defines anemic. -

So we're cheering for SF, Philly, Cardinals and the Rockies? Strange Days, as the Doors would say. Pena's made a couple of nice plays down there at 3B, but still preferable to A-Rod in the line-up, obviously. -

Swisher, if he makes a good throw and hits the cut off man, they have a very good chance to take out Quentin at the plate. Seems everyone in our line-up right now is pretty dangerous except for Rios...although he's still picking up a few RBI's. -

We need to get Quentin out of RF. The least he could do is keep his head in the game and back up the possible wild throw down the line. Is that too much to expect? -

Lovely beginning. There's NO WAY you get him at first there. Just hold the damn ball and wait for the DP. -
Mijares was injured...and was a bit shaky before that point. They shouldn't have let Breslow go to the A's. For some reason, they've always been able to come up with lefties with sub 2.5 ERA's. Denys Reyes, JC Romero, Mijares, the list goes on and on.

At least Jon Rauch is in for the Twins. That should be good for 1-2 runs for the Rangers. Little known fact, Darrin Jackson faced Koji in Japan. -

Too bad we don't have Joey Votto batting for us in the 9th, at least that would make it interesting. Two of the best games of the season today and probably the worst White Sox game...or one of them (maybe if I keep saying that the White Sox won't go down 1-2-3 in the 9th). I think this will Uehara's second ever save opportunity. -

I wouldn't give Beckham a pitch to hit either. Koji Uehara warming up. Pierre's 12 game hitting streak is dead. -

Big out for CJ Wilson against JJ Hardy to preserve the 3-3 tie going into the bottom of the 6th. Wilson and Duensing both 5-0 since the All-Star Break. Gonzalez into the game...it appears. -

Fire Walker! Now, I had to say it, and thus, I feel a little bit better...not that it makes this performance less infuriating. Of course, the White Sox will somehow take 2/3 from the Yankees to stay in the race and keep our hopes up, and they might have to with the Mariners playing the Twins and Felix Hernandez having already gone today in the DH against BOS.
