QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) In 1997 the White Sox had 7 of the first 62 picks in the draft. I'm not going to hold my breath. Ah yes, Jason Dellaero taken before Lance Berkman, and Garland ended up being the only major "impact" player of that draft, and he wasn't even a Sox pick.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) let's remember this is a franchise that traded away Johnny Callsion, Earl Battey, Norm Cash, Denny McClain, Terry Forster, Rich Gossage, Brian Downing and many other solid players. And don't forget Hawk traded Bobby Bonilla for Jose DeLeon. sending McClain to Detroit was one of the worst ever. Baldwin for Onan Masaoka and the wrong Berry/Barry Foulke/Johnson for Koch and Cotts (although Neal saved that one, it still cost us in 2003) Cory Snyder Gary Redus a Bedtime Story (just wanted to type that) Royce Clayton for Myette (not on talent, but for disruption of team chemistry and displacing Valentin)

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:49 PM) How can people not say the minor league people? Because they are the most "under the radar" you can possibly get...and their firings don't satisfy the "bloodlust" of the average fan in Kankakee or Peoria that goes to one or two White Sox games per year and probably doesn't even know the starting line-up of the White Sox. For instance, take Radcliff and Jim Rantz. WHO? Two huge reasons the Twins have finished ahead of the White Sox in four of the last five years with significantly smaller budgets. We'd be much better off to double the salary of either of those guys and let them remake our scouting department (like Dayton Moore is doing in KC with Braves' network scouts) than paying millions to Cintron, Pods and Mackowiak. http://www.citypages.com/databank/27/1346/article14739.asp

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:02 PM) Um...man, that is the single most 1-sided deal ever. I think Liriano/Bonser/Nathan takes the cake there. Don't forget Sean Lowe, he was a gritty fifth starter who actually pitched some big innings for us. Ironic that we traded away three "starters" and got half of one back, since Ritchie went down to injuries after pitching in horrible luck (think Danks' first month). QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Couldn't agree more. Our outfield -- RIGHT NOW -- needs a young player who can hit, run and field. THAT player is in Arizona, and he's named Chris Young. He'll get better, too. In his place is the guy who has been rewarded for mediocrity. IF -- and it's a big IF -- the signing of that turd to an $11 million deal prevents us from signing guys who actually have ACHIEVED things for this team -- and are critical to its makeup (Buehrle, Garland) -- the trade becomes even worse. And just so I'm totally clear about my position: I don't think Vazquez has underachieved. I think this is who he is, and has been, for about 6 years now. His stuff isn't excellent. The view to the contrary is a myth. Here's why: if you continue to hang off-speed pitches -- that is, throw curveballs that don't curve and sliders that don't slide -- you're not underachieving. Your stuff just isn't that consistently good. That's the guy I see. I get angry just thinking about that trade. I did the day it happened. And I do right now. We'll never know if CY could have put up similar numbers this year in the more competitive, pitching-dominated AL Central this year...maybe, maybe not. I guess we'll get a hint if BA is traded to an NL team and ends up becoming a regular.

I wonder if anyone will pick an option other than Guillen or Walker...?

Our bullpen is garbage. If he had the Angels' bullpen, or the 2005 White Sox pen, we'd be in a lot better shape. Considering the way Aardsma, MacDougal and Sisco have pitched recently, we're lucky to be over .500 still, with our offense still abysmal. Masset is our best righty now, and he shouldn't be in the bullpen, as he appears to be better suited to starting. The fact of the matter is that we're a .500 team, and will undoubtedly be within 6-7 games over .500 (both over and under) for the season, unless we make a major offensive addition to the line-up. Nobody's counting on Pods coming back at 100%, unless those were the same people who picked Mark Prior and Kerry Wood for their fantasy league teams.

2 IP 1 H, 4 ER, 4 Wallks (!!!), 1 K 6.35 ERA Brandon deserved the loss, but the Rangers came back with 5 against Dice-K to take McCarthy off the hook until the Rangers' bullpen managed to blow it. Time is running out for underprepared and inexperienced GM Jon Daniels.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) These are games you simply can't lose. Does anyone know how many games we've lost this year when leading going into the 7th inning? At least six. -

Not bad too get 10 hits in 6 2/3rd's versus a guy with a .199 OBA against the AL. -

QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 25, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) Ozzie never leaves pitchers in too long (see almost every loss). Who should he have gone too, Aardsma or MacDougal? Both those guys have been absolutely terrible recently. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) Elijah Duke hits almost .50 points higher against lefties. Can't one of his ex-girlfriends in the crowd take out a restraining order to get him out of their line-up right now? -

This game is exponentially better than Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I didn't expect that after the first couple of innings. If Kiera Knightley played SS for the Sox, I would never miss a game. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) That was poor baserunning right there. But 8 times out of 10, you put pressure on the defense and they won't make the play to beat you. Granted, with Thome coming up, it wasn't the wisest move, but there's always a very good chance the catcher doesn't field the ball cleanly or, in this case, double-clutches. CLE leading 6-4 and threatening to make it 7-4 in the top of the 9th at Comerica. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) Buehrle really made some nice pitches those last two batters. Something that's interesting is how much we shade Delmon Young up the middle (2nd base), even though he seems to do a lot of damage to the right side. He's definitely a spray hitter to the outfield. I guess karma says the score should be right about where it is...great defense from both teams, lots of missed opportunities with RISP, the D-Rays have given up two runners at 3B with less than 2 outs. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) Brian Anderson would've hit the fundamentals deck Oh, and hey guys. Clemens' first start will be against us The way he looked yesterday for Trenton, he won't survive a month in the AL. He was struggling to throw 88-91. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 25, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) Egbert falls back to earth tonite. Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Egbert 7.0 5 1 1 1 5 0 2.98 Can he hit with runners in scoring position? Intentional unintentional walk...he owned Terrero first AB, which means he'll probably get an infield single or something. -

QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ May 25, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) I thought we broke out of our slump?? Fortunately it's only one run........unfortunately our offense has looked anemic except for a handful of games this season. We're doing about as well as the Eddie Griffin led Pirates under Tommy Amaker. -

Joe didn't have any explosiveness in his legs and back to make that throw...he's almost become an offensive AND defensive liability out there on the field. Not sure if he would have had Upton, but it would have been VERY close. -

Terrero totally overmatched. Is Gaudin pitching again? 0 for 4 with RISP, and it's already getting old. Ugh...I wonder if this slump will be over before we're 7-9 games back? Yeah, we have a relatively easy schedule and the Tigers/Indians are playing each other 7 times in 10 days...we need to take advantage of these opportunities once in awhile and get to 5-6 games over .500 at some point. QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) Pathetic at-bat by a pathetic player. So it's the same as 2006? Meanwhile, Griffey Jr. is batting over .300 and hit another homer. Where would he play? Honestly, I would move Dye to LF, Griffey to RF and keep Erstad in CF. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 25, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) We desperately need to acquire another outfielder, and give up on waiting for Pods to return. 2003 will be the year of the missing 5th starter and Billy Koch, this might be the year of the missing LFer
