  1. I'm in Milwaukee for work this week. I know it's not even that bad, but -11 with the wind chill last night when I walked from my hotel to get dinner was miserable. I've never felt anything like that. And I know I have it easy. At least I'm in a hotel with a valet for my car. I can't imagine having to shovel my sidewalks, scrape the car, etc before work in the morning. I really feel for you guys. Also, today I learned that I've worn out a hole in the sole of one of my loafers. I can thank the snow/slush for that. I've been wearing a wet sock at work all day. Miserable.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Prepare to be disappointed. He's going to be the first guy grabbed, imo, and its going to happen fast. We don't offer the same package a 49ers or Falcons offer, so the key would be somehow getting our GM in place to at least make a pitch and hope he can sell them. All that said, I want our GM in first no matter what. They need to be comfortable with the head coach and our GM also has to be able to bring in good football people around him. I am also on board with the Toub idea, however, that is as long as he has the right coordinators in mind for the OC / DC position. He should know a lot of people through his years in the league so I presume it won't be an issue. I've been on the Bowles bandwagon since very early in the season. As for the Toub idea, I'm not opposed to it either. The ST coach to Head Coach jump isn't that far of a stretch. Jim Harbaugh was a ST coach before his Ravens job. Marv Levy was a ST coach too. There aren't a ton of examples b/c the NFL puts such a huge emphasis on Offense and Defense (while Special Teams is routinely an afterthought), but Head Coaches need to be more manager types anyway. First, he's a leader. Anyone who can, year-in and year-out, bring together a group of random guys to consistently be the best in the league is someone who can lead. Sidenote: don't let the press fool you; DeCamillis isn't the only one who dealt with young players on special teams. Newsflash: that's how football (especially the NFL) works. You play young guys on STs. Toub got one guy ever year he could pick and then a bunch of other dudes. Secondly, of course, he would fix our abysmal special teams. And I do think that having been around as long as he has, he surely has some good connections for OC/DC positions.
  3. Yep, that was really great. Cool look into a part of the minors that I definitely don't think about much.
  4. I can't believe what I'm watching. As much as I wanted Alabama to lose, I gave Ohio St no chance in this game. Lot of time left, though. But this game has been awesome.
  5. Wow! What a throw and catch. That WR threw it as well as a QB. Don't see that often.
  6. Would be nice to see OSU get some points before half. Rock, the injury to your Center looked bad, but he walked off looking okay. Hope he can come back.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Old BCS system would have put FSU in the title game fyi I was thinking about that earlier. After one game we've already seen the benefit of the playoff.
  8. Now it's time for Ohio St to take care of business and pull off the upset. It won't happen, but a guy can dream. I just don't see any way a 3rd string QB stands a chance against Saban-led defense with a month of preparation.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) https://vine.co/v/OwYivzq17MW Keep your head on a swivel, young man. I liked how he tweeted "I am alive" after the game. At least he has a sense of humor about it.
  10. Watch ESPN app being down is killing me. ESPN better fix it quickly. I'm at my parents and they don't have cable. Heck of a comeback by Sparty. What an awesome day of games so far.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) I don't like being the way people who are fans of SEC teams are, where they cheerlead their whole conference, but the B1G could really use a win by OSU to maintain some relevance. It doesn't hurt that Alabama/Saban are supremely unlikable. I root against every SEC school. I couldn't care less if they win.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) Was Cam ever really suspected of being a bad person or just violating stupid NCAA rules? He did steal a laptop, which is why he got kicked out of Florida. But after that, he never had any run-ins with the law that I'm aware of.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Agreed. Manziel Jr. Just a big headache. That's not fair to Manziel. Johnny Football isn't a bad dude. He's immature and a bit of a punk sometimes. He likes to party and do what every 21 year old kid likes to do. Winston on the other hand is a (probable) rapist, stole from a grocery store, shoved a ref on the field, etc. By all accounts, he thinks he's above the law. Manziel hasn't done any of that type of stuff. In answer to Balta's original question: no, I would not want Winston at all. I would find him incredibly hard to root for because of the off-the-field stuff, which is unfortunate because I think he's very good on the field.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) That's incredible they didn't overturn that. It was incredibly obvious his knee wasn't down when he was stretching the ball across the line. One of the worst uses of instant replay I've seen. Clearly 100% a TD. I don't know how they upheld the call on the field. And I was rooting for ND this game. But LSU got screwed big time.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:17 PM) Adam Jahns ‏@adamjahns 12m12 minutes ago So the #Bears list of interview requests for coaches (at least known for now) includes: Adam Gase and Todd Bowles. What concerns me about this is that we don't have a GM in place. I don't know if they are just trying to be proactive so that when we do hire a GM, we already have permission to interview these guys. Or if we're going to try to hire a GM and Head Coach separately. That usually isn't smart. Let the GM pick his coach. On that note, I love some Todd Bowles. I hear good things about Gase, but I'm also not sure how much of that offense is him vs Peyton. I already know the answer: a big portion of it is Peyton. Of course, that doesn't mean Gase is a bad coach either. People had the same concerns about McCoy and he's done well with San Diego. Completely turned around Rivers' career.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Can I nominate Tom Clements for HC? I wish the Packers hadn't denied us when Lovie wanted to interview him as OC several years ago. I like Clements a lot. Think he would have been good for us.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) you dont fire the assistants because if they get hired somewhere else, at least part of their contract under the bears is paid by the other team. if they just fire them outright today, the bears are on the hook for all of it. simple, standard business decision. Thank you. Not sure why so many people don't understand this.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) So Ernie Accorsi is helping with the hiring. I like this. Accorsi was very good with the Giants. Hope he helps find us a solid GM. I read a book a few years ago called The GM. It focuses on Accorsi's last season (2006) as the Giants GM. Pretty good read. I know he isn't our GM and it's only a short-term hire, but it made me think of the book. Anyone who likes football and reading about front-office decision making would like it.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) People in August and September thought Jimmy could be had for 8 mill a year and would be mad if he got 10. It may not seem like it, but this was best case scenario. Definitely. I'd rather have someone play himself into a max deal rather than giving out a big contract and seeing that player end up not being worth it.
  20. Guys, chill out on worrying about the coaches not being fired yet. We won't do it officially until a new HC is hired. If the new HC wants to keep a current coach, there is no need to fire that coach. I'm sure they will all be gone. But you don't fire everyone until you have a new plan in place with a new coach. For instance, maybe the new guy wants to keep Mike Groh. Well, you don't fire him and then re-hire him a week or two later.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) 49ers aggressively pursuing coaches. I worry with so many new positions to hire, Bears will shuffle their feet and have a weak crop to go off of (in a pretty weak crop already). That's my concern too. With having to hire a GM first, other teams are already requesting interviews for their HC positions while we have to wait. That said, good ownership would already have a short-list of GM candidates. And a good GM candidate would already have a short-list of HC candidates. So if we have good people in charge (I don't know if we do; the jury is still out on George McCaskey), then the process could happen quickly. But with the last GM search, I feel like it took weeks to hire Emery. They better not do that this time.
  22. Okay, good deal. Saw some good things out of a few key young players (Fuller, Jones) and we kept the 7th pick. Now clean house.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) Forte needs 1 catch to tie the single season receptions record by a running back. They really need to make this happen. If Trestman can salvage anything positive from his tenure, I'd at least like to say he helped Forte break the record.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 26, 2014 -> 08:08 AM) ^^ Now that is very nice. Agreed. That is very cool.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 24, 2014 -> 12:41 PM) D'Oh. I was going to see if you didn't use the online version (since each TV feed comes w/online access as well) if you'd be willing to sell the online access for me to use. I originally wasn't going to get because i Thought I was getting all the WGN games + national games, but have really enjoyed the season so was going to try and find a way to get at least partial access so I could stream games at night (I normally don't watch live...watch on west coast once my daughter is asleep and done with household chores, etc). You could check out Ballstreams. It's a a site out of Sweden (I think). I know a bunch of people who use it (my roommate included) and it provides all the NBA games in HD. The quality is better than NBA League Pass. I know because we had League Pass last year. I think it's like $60 for the season. I guess it all depends on if you trust these folks with your credit card info, but so far, I've never heard anything bad about it.
