QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Wait a second...you're complaining because the move that Ozzie made actually worked out and Betemit got a hit in that situation? Well, you could argue he should have used the PH for Alexei Ramirez, but hasn't Ramirez earned the chance to work through his struggles based on last year...and the falloff to Betemit at SS (then you have to burn another player to put in Lillibridge) compared to Owens/Lillibridge in CF is greater. I'm with you 'field. BA has to earn Ozzie's confidence to stay in the game in that situation. Getting a runner home from third with less than two outs, ANY runner, would be a nice start. I like BA as much as the next guy, but so far he hasn't shown me anything at the dish that we didn't see in '06 - which is to say ineptitude.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) I'm convinced that Ozzie doesn't even look at L-R splits. I don't doubt that you're right, and that's criminal in this age of information.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) You're missing the point. Both Florida teams have been to and/or won the World Series, yet the Rays and Marlins are not getting the attendance (and therefore revenue) boost that teams usually get during and after successful seasons. The bad stadiums/locations is a mitigating factor, but if you don't draw when you are winning, when will you draw? The teams have been there long enough to develop a fan base, and the "new stadium boost" in attendance has not been as big a factor in recent years, especially if the team isn't winning. So it's hard to claim that new stadiums will solve the attendance problems for these teams. Agreed. Florida just isn't a good place for baseball, and probably never will be, so it's kind of lousy that they have two teams. Other than Vegas, where the economy is really in the toilet, he biggest markets that don't have MLB are North Carolina (Charlotte would be best location), Indianapolis, Columbus (though Ohio is covered well with Cleveland and Cincy)and Tennessee (Nashville or Memphis, with Nashville probably more attractive). I don't know how well those places would support MLB, but I'd be willing to bet it would be much better than in Florida. Overall, I think Indy and Charlotte are best places for expansion, if and when.

Would someone PLEASE inform Ozzie that Getz hits lefties as well or better than righties, and that Lilli is not a major league hitter? I sure as hell hope someone does, and soon. Every day Lillibridge starts retards Getz' growth and undermines his growing confidence.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) How many times can you "kill" this guy? It requires silver bullets and a wooden stake through the heart. And decapitate him for good measure.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) I don't want to witness Jerry Owens batting at the Major League level anymore. You haven't - he's never been at a "Major League" level.

Wise to DL with Separated Shoulder/Anderson to Start in CF
ILMOU replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just give Getz a legit chance already, against righties and lefties, and start this lineup: Fields Getz Q Thome Dye Konerko AJP Missile BA Or switch Getz and Fields, and/or Thome and Dye. And don't change it for an effin' week. Lilli backs up BA and Getz. If Lilli continues to get as many or more PA's than Getz, I'm going to start calling him Our-New-Owens, or O-NO! for short. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) So what kind of fail is it, when a guy can't start for your bad , can't hit worth a damn AAA team and he will come back here and immediately take over for Wise. Anderson is going to be back to the bench. Corrected for accuracy. -

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) Cowley is reporting (2 minutes ago) that Owens is getting the call. Say it isn't so!! Let the Owens bashing re-commence. -
QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) "Raise up a child in the ways of our Sox and they will not depart." GOD It's tough competing with the effin' Cubbies when it comes to the affections of a 6 year old - their logo is a freakin' teddy bear! I'm glad to hear you're off to a great start.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 07:02 AM) I still long for the days of Caray and Piersall, but the addition of Stone ain't bad. Definitely one of the best color guys in the game. I still can't believe that the Cubs forced him out. The Pony just wasn't warm and fuzzy enough for the Cubbies in the long run. Their loss, our gain. And yes, I will always miss the Harry and Piersall tandem. You never knew what you might hear from those two.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) 2005 World Series Statue, Konerko and Crede It all looks great, but that doesn't look much like Konerko's swing to me. Looks more like Hank Greenberg.

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) I want the media to think the Sox have no chance. We know better. Yes. It's all coming together perfectly. The CHIP is firmly planted on the collective shoulder of this team. We'll show 'em...again, and they'll wonder how their infallible projection systems can be so wrong.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 02:46 AM) Liriano would be Saturday or Sunday...he's getting the OD start instead of Baker, who's now on the DL. Should be: MON: Buehrle vs. Meche WED: Floyd vs. Greinke THUR: Danks/Contreras vs. Kyle Davies FRI: Danks/Contreras vs. RA Dickey (knuckleballer) SAT: Colon vs. Liriano SUN: Buerhle vs. Blackburn I see us 5-1 or 6-0 after the first week.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Given how he was able to carry on after massive over-use/abuse in Cuba, I'd have to say that Jose is one of the most physically tough pro athletes I've ever seen. Indeed. And what a great story it would be if he regains his 2005 form and leads another dominant staff to another, dare I say... It IS his contract year.

Are the Sox moving Opening Day to Tuesday?
ILMOU replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I've heard no such mention of moving the game to Tuesday anywhere. 35? Snow? Opening Day a normal Monday game, who cares? There would have to be 3 inches plus on the ground for them to cancel a regular season game. They'll frequently cancel an April game and say it was for the "cold", when it is really a matter of attendance. There's no such attendance issues on opening day, so unless it's REALLY crappy, they'll play ball. -
Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
ILMOU replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:35 AM) There were plenty of cheap options available this offseason. Yes, but they're not available now. KW screwed up, but it's a long season. Nobody is happy about the CF/leadoff situation now, but better options will become available, and we now have real prospects to trade. The pitching, and most everything else, was horrible in 2007. Erstad was a terrible move, yes, but not the difference maker for a team that lost 90 games. -
QUOTE (thedoctor @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) i'm not worried yet. it seems that most years by the end of st we've convinced ourselves the sox are doomed. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I would say ALL years, except 2006.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Last year, Chapman was left out of the Olympics team. The rumor was he was caught in an Holguin's beach with others. Holguin is its home province or state. Many Cuban players wants out. Interesting. They must have had him under heavy guard during the WBC.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) He's off the clear and the cream, has a bum shoulder and is old. I would love for the Indians to sign him. He is subtraction by addition. Yes, and a clubhouse cancer to boot. PLEASE sign him Shapiro.
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) I'm worried the Indians could sign him actually. They need power hitters, and their corner OF's aren't exactly top notch. Take another look. SS Choo may well be an MVP candidate this year. Guy can flat out rake.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) No, not really. I agree, but if MacD starts off the season well, that may change. I hope KW jumps at any chance to trade him, and we don't assume he's "fixed".

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) I have to disagree about the tattoos. I was in Chicago in September 2007 and I was at Jade Dragon getting some ink from a guy who said he did Henry Blanco's tattoos on his arms. That doesn't sound like his tattoos are gang related to me. Hey man, I don't know. For all I know, he's got hundreds of tattoos all over his body, and if he does have "gang related" tattoos, who knows if they're on his arms?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Swisher is almost certain to rebound. I don't buy that at all. Last year was supposed to be his rebound year from a lackluster '07. In all likelihood, his numbers have dropped because he was a juicer in his best years, and hasn't figured out the HGH stuff yet.
