  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) According to MLB Radio, the D’Backs will soon announce that they have traded OF Carlos Quentin to the White Sox for 20–year-old 1B Chris Carter. I was afraid they were going to trade Chris Carter. There goes my favorite sox prospect. At least its not for Coco Crisp. I'm not very familiar with Quentin offhand, but I hate to see Carter go.
  2. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) Well it doesn't look like the White Sox are afraid to spend money to fix problems. I know there will be people on this site who will shoot this signing to pieces. This guy historically has taken the ball though. It's an improvement and very frankly the money is not much of a concern to me, they have it and will spend it. I don't think it's a bad move at all. At first I was a bit dissapointed with the Garland trade, but once I thought about it Cabrera seems like he will feel a need pretty nicely. Linebrink at the very least has shown some consistency in his numbers from year to year. If we can add a CF and the back end of the rotation can holld up, I'm encouraged about next year.
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Andy Gonzalez maybe probably hopefully dear god get him out of here. Is it worth 19 million and a 2nd round pick to get him off the 40 man? Maybe. That was my hope as well.
  4. I read somewhere Fernando Hernandez would need to be added to the 40 man roster in order to be protected. I could see someone picking him up especially after his strong AFL showing.
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Who do we send to Boston for Crisp? They signed Lowell, so they don't want Crede. They have far more pitching than we do, so we can't really afford to send them that. Possibly an OF prospect? Sweeney? The rumor I had originally read had Chris Carter going to Boston for Crisp. If that actually happened, I would be extremely upset. I don't think Crisp is anything to special, and I don't think he is worth Carter or even Sweeney for that matter. I would give something like Brian Anderson and Aardsma for him. I doubt they would want them, but in my eyes he is not worth giving up a prospect with much of any upside for.
  6. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) Andersons trade value is so low that I would rather hold onto him since he still has the potential to become a starter in the future. Why trade him just to trade him? The deal in return would most likely be crap. I expect him to be gone because from quotes I've read, the organization has soured on him, and it sounds like he has soured on the organization. It's kind of like the Sean Tracey type deal.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) also, I find it hard to believe that Jason 'French Upper Middle Class' (The smart ones here will get it ) would just be released when he is a good player to have down in the minors and if Pablo isn't the same next year Bourgeouis would be the likely candidate to replace (similar players). As for Anderson, I see him Atlanta bound. Bourgeois is eligible to be a minor league free agent. I think if he was in the sox future plans he would have been called up when the rosters expanded, his performance was def. deserving of it. I see him leaving for a team that will give him a shot to make the club, even as a reserve utility guy. I personally would have loved to have seen the team give him a chance, and I think his upside is way higher than Andy Gonzalez's will ever be, but I think that being as he was not called up = he is not in their plans.
  8. Just a little something I put together, let me know what you guys think or if I missed somebody. C- D. Lucy 1B- FA 2B- C. Getz 3B- FA SS- Andy Gonzalez RF- R. Sweeney CF- FA/ Kenny Perez LF- T. Collaro DH- FA SP- G. Gonzalez SP- J. Egbert SP. L. Broadway SP- C. Haegar SP- A. Sisco RP- O. Perez RP- C. Vasquez RP- D. Day RP- A. Russell RP- F. Hernandez Departing- C. Rogowski, B. Anderson, H. Phillips, N. Masset, J. Bourgeouis I did not include the minor league journeymen in the departing section as I am acting on the assumption most will not return. I have Bourgeouis, Phillips, and Rogowski leaving as minor league free agents, and the club finding a way to dump Massett and Anderson. These are my predictions of what I think the organization will do and not necessarily what I want to see. I personally would like to see Bourgeouis, Rogowski, and Massett retained for another year. Thoughts?
  9. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 10:27 PM) I'm going on about 15 pessimistic posts in a row. I can't muster up too much optimism, but I'll try. Broadway spent the year working on throwing a 2-seam fastball, didn't he? So maybe there's some hope he could drop that walk total if he actually does learn how to throw it. I agree that nothing anyone saw tonight should make them think Broadway is anywhere close to being effective in the bigs, 86 MPH fastball and all. But if he could somehow learn the 2-seamer maybe he could be a semi-effective junk-balling reliever or something. That would be a triumph for the minor league system. I saw him pitch in person earlier this summer. He was consistently throwing his fastball at 90-91, not 86.
  10. I like Ozzie. I don't think this mess is fault. KW put this team together and if anyone is to blame I would think he is more responsible than Ozzie. What does anyone expect him to do with injury prone guys like Erstad and Pods, guys who don't belong on a major league roster like Owens and Andy Gonzalez, and not much in reserve in the minor league system. Add in the injury to Crede, and the non-talent of Jose Uribe, and you really have a lot of dead weight on this team.
  11. have to say KW. The way he put together this team is risky. Relying on guys who are coming off of injuries e.g Erstad, or have not proven themselves to be succesful major leaguers e.g. Floyd, Masset, Sisco, Aardsma, is a risky proposition. Sometimes taking chances can be extremely beneficial, but when your payroll is @100 mil, you should not be in last place with the majority of your offseason acquistions either being in AAA or having been demoted there. Aging and injury prone with a farm system pretty barren of position prospects, this organization needs some new life breathed into it.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Cust had a label put on him by baseball and he's clearly shown it to be wrong. He is a very good, productive player at the ML level, and it's shrewd moves like that that differentiate between good GMs and bad ones. When we were dying for outfield help, why didn't we bring him in? What would it have hurt? A terrible prospect and that's all? Why not? Billy Beane isn't a favorite of mine, but he good. I graduated high school with Jack, . He has tremendous talent, and I've never understood why he had not gotten more of a chance in the majors. He is a class guy, with a good sense of humor, and was very modest as well. As far back as freshman year I used to say to him that one day I'd be watching him on tv in the major leagues, and he'd always laugh and say "Nah." I'm glad to finally see him make it, he's worked hard for it.
  13. I've liked JG since the sox traded for him, but I would trade him if we could get something useful for him. I doubt he would be kept past 08 anyhow, so might as well trade him now. I'm sure that with all the focus on pitching in this org. that there should be several guys ready for the rotation by then. Egbert and Gio should both be ready to start for 09, and that's not taking into account the collection of masset/sisco/floyd/insert name here combo that we have. I'd really like to see a nice young SS and a young OF that can hit for average without too many strikeouts.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:26 PM) Embarassing games for the Sox...it's disgusting to see how much the talent level on the big league team sucks. If the talent on the major league team disgusts you, you should see our hitters at charlotte. I got to see them play a couple of games here against scranton when erstad and pods were there together. Has anyone seen their backup catcher Ryan Smith's career numbers? We really need some talent close to the majors and we have crap for position players anywhere higher than winston-salem. I'm in awe of all the pitching that this team constantly drafts and acquires via trades while completely ignoring trying to get an impact hitter. Paul Konerko and Jim Thome aren't getting any younger, and JD is not a long term solution.
  15. What do you do with him? He brings back nothing in a trade, I'm sure. Do you release him? He'll be 25 at the start of next season, but I'm not thinking he's ever going to be able to pull it together.
