  1. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) Is jeff marquez a possibility? I would hope so, I would have to imagine he is no longer in the org.'s plans, and he is taking a spot on the 40. I doubt he has any value though.
  2. I'm guessing maybe someone like torres and omogrosso? I would think that at least one of the guys if not both are on the 40 man roster
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) Rosenthal: Royals, Giants, Tigers, Cubs, and Sox Interested in Pods By Jason Gage SoxNet Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers, San Francisco Giants, and Chicago Cubs are all contending with the White Sox for the services of free agent Scott Podsednik. Rosenthal is probably accurate about the other teams, but the Sox interest in Podsednik has waned over recent weeks, so much so, that Williams has told the media on multiple occasions that the Sox have "moved-on". The club has tried...Rest of the Story IMO they can have him then. He was great for us last year, and would fill the hole at the top of the order but I just can't see giving a multiyear deal to one half of "the glass brothers". I'd be all for a one year 1.75 deal with incentives that could push it to 3mil, or maybe a 1 year with a vesting option for the second year, but that doesn't sound like what he is looking for and I'm not KW.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) well, Jared Price is listed as the catcher for B-Ham in tonight's game. So we won't find out tonight, for sure, what the deal is with Lucy/Armstrong. Lucy is now listed on Birminghams roster as of yesterday.
  5. "I know one thing about Nick Swisher from afar," general manager Brian Cashman said. "He's a very competitive player. He's a grinder. He plays at one level at all times." I found this quote humorous, no further explantion really needed.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Bulls***. Oz's strategy with the staff is fine. The starters have to get their head out of their collective asses and go into the seventh inning. If Clayton can't pitch five, don't start him, but you don't get somebody up after a hit and a walk in the fifth if he has a shutout going. I can't believe so many people refuse to blame the players and not the manager. It's so typical arm chair quarterbacking. If players can't produce, including pitchers, don't start them. They have to be able to go at least six innings. I wouldn't mind seeing Egbert make Richard's next start. He's been coming around after his rough start after his injury.
  7. The text of the Scott Merkin article was changed to the following- DETROIT -- Adam Russell will be called up from Triple-A Charlotte to the White Sox prior to Friday's opener against Colorado, a source has confirmed to MLB.com. A corresponding roster decision will be made, with the White Sox expected to make a move involving veteran reliever Esteban Loaiza. The 6-foot-8 Russell, who was previously with the White Sox for a May 2-4 series in Toronto, but did not pitch, had a 3-0 record with a 1.74 ERA this season with Charlotte. He will work in long relief. Previously it had said Loaiza was expected to be released, now it only says a corresponding roster move involving Loiaza, so I'm thinking he is in fact heading to the DL.
  8. http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives...yankee_tra.html 5. A three-way trade in which the Yanks get Nick Swisher, Matt Thornton and John Danks. The White Sox get Melky Cabrera, Hideki Matsui, Ian Kennedy and Ray Durham. The Giants get Paul Konerko, Alberto Gonzalez and Shelley Duncan. WHY WOULD THE YANKEES DO THIS? They are taking a flyer that Swisher's early troubles this year are a blip. He is a switch-hitter who has shown he can handle first base well. But this is mainly about getting their hands on lefty pitching: Thornton for the pen and Danks for the rotation. The cost is large, but the Yanks really MUST find a way to get lefty pitching. WHY WOULD THE WHITE SOX DO THIS? They are a win-now team struggling on offense (yes, we heard Ozzie Guillen's tirade last week). They would have to believe that Jim Thome could play first to replace Konerko. They would add Matsui as the DH and Durham would return to his original team in the midst of a bounce-back year. Danks has been tremendous, but in Jose Contreras, Javier Vazquez, Mark Buehrle and Gavin Floyd, they have four starters going well and they hope that pitching coach Don Cooper works wonders with Kennedy or with recent re-acquisition Esteban Loaiza. Melky Cabrera solves their defensive problems in center field. Their lineup ends up looking like this: 1. Durham, 2b. 2. A.J. Pierzynski, c. 3. Carlos Quentin, lf. 4. Thome, 1b. 5. Jermaine Dye, rf. 6. Matsui, dh. 7. Joe Crede, 3b. 8. Orlando Cabrera, ss. 9. Melky Cabrera, cf. That is one of the game's best offenses. WHY WOULD THE GIANTS DO THIS? Konerko is owed $24 million beyond this year (and has a no-trade clause). He is having an off-year. The Giants can hope that he revives and they could trade him again either in July or in the offseason. But for simply absorbing that money and ridding themselves of Durham, they get to see if Gonzalez can be their shortstop of the future and to see if Duncan could be a low-cost power bat with full-time play. I found this humorous...
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 13, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) He's intriguing...I've always kind of liked Eldred, but I usually like guys that can hit the ball 5000 feet. If he can keep up anything resembling his May production thus far - .400/.481/1.022/1.503 with 7 homers and 7 doubles already - and be a 1.000+ OPS guy in the minors, I'd see him having a legitimate shot in the majors. He's a longshot to say the least and is a AAAA player, but he could have his value in the majors. You said it better than me. That's what I meant when I said he was tearing it up. I've seen him homer in person and he certainly does crush the ball. As for the poster who mentioned David Cook, I agree, I would like to see what he could do at Charlotte and the K/BB ratio is definitely a positive.
  10. Brad is hitting .291, with 12 home runs and 36 RBI's in 127 AB's, with an OPB of .348, and a SLG of .656 for an OPS of just over 1. Too bad he doesn't walk much and couldn't be a Jack Cust type. His MLB batting average is .199 in 200 career at bats, but it looks as if he may have been injured for parts of the last two seasons. I'm curious what he could do with another shot in the big leagues...
  11. Just a follow up, 3rd night in a row now with no Fields...
  12. Was at last night's Charlotte-Scranton game and he was no where to be found. I was literally sitting next to the manager right next to the dugout, he high fived my daughter after Eldred's home run. Didn't see Josh in the dugout, or during warmups, and saw he's not in the lineup again tonight, anyone know what's going on with him?
  13. fwiw, I was at the charlotte-scranton game last night, sitting directly next to the dugout, and josh fields was no where to be seen all night, either in the dugout or during warmups. I found it kind of strange, then after reading this thread it made me wonder.
  14. I think Garland is an important part of the team's success over the last 8 or so years. He has been durable and shown consistency year to year. It is quite possible that the subtraction of Garland is greater than the addition of Cabrera to this teams success. Unless of course Danks or Floyd can step it up this year and replace some of what Garland offered to this team. I hope both of them have great seasons, but in reality nobody knows until those guys get out there. I believe they both have the potential, however whether or not they will fufill that potential is just not a question that can be answered at this time.
  15. How many of our former guys have the a's acquired so far this offseason? I guess we have at least one fan of our minor league system.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) + I've seen posted before that the Sox are high on him and could overdraft on him. Does anyone know where he might project to be taken if he wasn't an overdraft?
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) Definitely agree, it makes no sense for this team to give up any more young talent for a reclamation project. If Epstein would take Masset for Crisp then I'd probably do it but if the asking price is anything more than one of our many AAAA relief pitchers (which it definitely is) then I'd much rather just go with the 3 young guys out there next year. I couldn't have said it better myself. I don't want to trade for Crisp. I am not anti-Crisp, but anything over the cost of a AAAA reliever is too much for this organization to give up for him. Our system is not overflowing with elite prospects, therefore we either need to keep them and hope they pan out, or use them in a trade for an high impact player, which is not Coco Crisp, Juan Pierre or anything like that.
  18. I have a lot of respect for Frank. As one other poster said, he is also the reason I became a sox fan. I was sorry to see them let him go the way they did.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) Here we go again.... I really don't mind the second guessing and the criticism, but the "Kenny is stupid" nonsense is really ridiculous. Yeah, the Stanford guy that played the game, was director of the farm system, and now GM of several years is just plain "stupid." But we the message board posters, who have no clue what actually goes on other than what we read in the media are the "intelligent" ones. How absolutely ignorant. As for Fields, Kenny will not trade him unless he gets a very significant piece in return. While he's shown he will trade anyone for what he feels is the right piece, he isn't going to deal away Fields, whom he views as a future all-star, for a marginal upgrade in Crisp. Sure, Fields was available for MCab. He would be available for a frontline pitcher. But he's not going to be available for Coco Crisp. We all know how badly Kenny wanted Scott Linebrink over the past two seasons. The Padres demanded Fields in return. The deal wasn't made. So I think it's clear it's not going to be made for Crisp. I don't think it's necessarily clear that he wouldn't be available for Crisp, or another OF acquistion. KW said 3B had been decided, right? After KW said 3B had been decided, he was ready to trade Fields for Cabrera. The reports which I read on the official site about a month ago said they would use Cabrera in LF. That would mean that Crede is the 3B by default, as Fields would no longer be on the team, Miggy would be in LF. It is possible the plan at 3B has changed, but I am not sold on the idea that Fields will not be traded for a piece that KW thinks could make us contend next year, which could be that speedy leadoff CF that I've read they need. I don't want to see Fields go, unless we were getting an elite player in return, but I cannot say with certainty that he is definitley in the Sox' plans for 2008. Also, I was using Fields as an example, and I really wouldn't want to see Gio, Egbert, or DLS go for a Crisp/Pierre type.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 12:51 AM) Weeeeeee! Fantastic -- no mention of the more talented options of Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney. Nope, Jerry Owens, the catalyst who'll hit .270/.315/.330. But he'll steal bases and run fast -- boy will he run fast. I would rather see Anderson or Sweeney over Owens. But I would rather see Owens over Coco Crisp or Juan Pierre. I can't see giving Gio or Fields for one of those bums. I really hope he is not stupid enough to do something like that. A couple of weeks ago KW said 3B had been decided and would be revealed shortly. It obviously wasn't fields because they tried to include him on cabrera. they previously said if they got Mcabrera they would use him in LF. So I think the plan was Crede at 3B, MCabrera in Lf, Owens in center. I just hope they don't trade fields because no one wants crede and they want a CF. I can see KW making a deal like Fields for Crisp and Craig Hansen.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) One more comment on this draft. For a system that BA and other "experts" call so awful, it sure seems odd that the Sox had so many players taken in the draft. Maybe the lower levels really are getting better. I don't know if it necessarily means are lower levels are getting much better. I think it means we have more marginal guys with some potential. This organization promotes guys extremely slowly, and therefore other teams have more guys to choose from in our system. Or something to that effect. I don't think anyone that we lost in the minor league portion is going to become an impact player at the major league level. I think it says something bad about our scouting and development when one of our 3 picks in the second round of the 04 draft is taken in the triple a phase of the minor league rule 5, and the other two guys are wes whisler and donny lucy when guys like dustin pedroia, yovanni gollardo, reid brignac, kurt suzuki, and hunter pence where all taken in the same round of that draft. I don't expect that the sox are going to be able to know every single one of the impact players when they are drafting, but with three picks in that round, I would at least hope that they would have the scouting abilty to have been able to have picked one of those guys.
  22. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) what the hell? well i'm barely pa. I'm 5 minutes from the NJ border, and that's where I came here from.
  23. I believe kenny lofton is plan 16B-2. I think Kenny is only at plan 11G right now.
  24. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) Merkin on now: - Quentin deal a good one, on the lines of Lee/Pods trade. - Still in hunt for CF in Rowand or Crisp, not done in the outfield yet. - Crede/Fields talk. Nothing new, issues has to be settled. - No on Tejada, still in Cabrara race, but not on top off the pecking order. - KW unpredictable, Colon and Garcia as examples. - Impact of Mark/Dye not being on the market. - Talking about O. Cabrara trade, major upgrade. Good clubhouse guy. - Pen talk, comparing '05 to '07 pens. - KW banking on the young starting pitchers. - Talking about Jenks outs streak last season. - Getting anything done this winter meeting, depends on Santana with Crisp. So who gets traded for Crisp then? I've read the red sox are looking for good prospects. We wouldn't actually give up Gio/Egbert/Fields/DLS for Coco Crisp, right? Because if that's the case they can keep him. I'd give them Kyle McCulloch and a choice of a reliever. I don't think he's worth much more than that
  25. After going back and looking at his numbers last year, I'm not anymore encouraged... So who goes on the 40 now, hopefully Andy Gonzalez, so at least something good comes out of it.
