  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) What? I can't stand this dick. And I can't stand you either.
  2. There are some posters here, AHB and BigSqwert for example, who think we should have single-payer healthcare, but a radical overhaul by the government is not on the table.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) You don't disagree - you just outright dismiss any and all data, laying waste to the foundation for discussion. That is the problem. And LOL at "the network" - not sure if you noticed, but people who post back here often disagree on a LOT of things. There is no SoxTalk Filibuster Mafia. Hell, even the mods and admins go at it in here pretty vehemently with each other at times. If you count you and me as fence-sitters, the liberal-conservative ratio of Soxtalk staff who regularly post here is 50/50.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 08:51 AM) But he's wrong. The only thing I'm doing is disagreeing with a majority of people on this website about polls. That's all I'm doing. Just because I disagree with you people, doesn't mean I'm wrong, it doesn't mean I'm sticking my head in the sand, and it doesn't mean I'm an idiot. The reverse is true, too. Soxtalk has a problem, a big problem, with people having differing opinions on things...it's ok that people see things differently, no matter how irrational it seems to you or what you believe in...it's ok. I'm not asking permission to see things how I see them. This is how I see things, whether you like it or not. It's not sticking my head in the sand, it's not being ignorant. It's simply being different. Accept that. Nobody is calling you an idiot but you do have a tendency to act like people are attacking you all the time. When you make a point and someone disagrees with it they're going to explain why you're wrong and say something back, that's what this subforum is here for. People aren't going to agree and that's why this thread is 100+ pages. Nobody in here has a problem with anyone, except maybe one or two people who don't like one another. I go at it with 2K5 all the time in here and it might look like we're fighting, but ask him, we're cool. Same with Kap.
  5. You said "these polls are crap" but you are still trying to say they say something they don't. Ok so "praise" was the wrong word.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) There was nothing to miss other than the typical, let's take snippits of someones entire post, therefore breaking its context completely, and make a really bad Soxtalkism strawman point about it. To be perfectly clear, since it appears you have to be around here lest someone will take snippits of a whole to make a really stupid point, you can easily get a poll showing whatever outcome you're looking for when it comes to the subject of health care and people wanting a government run public option. Again, it comes down to the whens, the wheres and the hows...and it's my belief that in order for them to show that a "majority of Americans" want such an option, they HAD to ask a certain subsection of "America" while ignoring everyone else. I'm sure they didn't poll any Blue Cross employees. Or young healthy adults who are covered by any number of plans. Or my parents, who in their 60's but have insurance. Are those people not Americans? Oh, wait, that's right...they may be Americans, but for this poll...they aren't necessary, because that would...well, mess up the intended outcome. I think my point was made pretty clearly. Again, to reiterate, since it seems you have to do that around here...I've stated my case as to WHY *I* do not like polls. I am not, in any way, saying you can't believe in them, trust them or take them at their word. That is your choice. That is your decision, something I'm not making for you. It'd be nice if you let me state my opinion on the matter, even if you disagree with it without saying I'm sticking my head in the sand, or as I'm sure you are actually wanting to say but don't want to get banned, a total f***ing moron. Jesus Christ, what are you talking about? Where do you get these conclusions on what I think about the subject or about you from? What I've been trying to say, and so have NSS and StrangeSox, is that you are effectively saying all polls are bulls*** which makes it impossible to gauge anything, ever, and when you give the reason, it boils down to "there is a possibility they can say something that challenges what I believe" even though you're not actually saying that. Then you confirm this whenever you praise a poll that says something you DO like (irregardless of what the questions actually are) but dismiss any other ones out of hand as unreliable. The hand-waving of data makes it impossible to argue anything. Which takes us back to about 6 months ago when we were all in here doing the same thing.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) Yes, you give. Stick your head in the sand now because I don't agree with you on polls. See, it's easy to do that to someone that disagrees with you...I can do it, too. Good f***ing lord dude, this is what he's been trying to explain that you are doing for the past 2-3 days.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) So I climbed to the top of apple trees yesterday to pick apples for a friend who couldn't do it. I am happy to report I didn't break anything in the process. Damn.
  9. I can't believe I missed that.
  10. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) It is terrible. Was a problem last year and they did nothing to fix it. Hopefully TT spends some money on offensive linemen in the offseason or drafts a player or two. The Vikings defensive line is still hard to stop regardless of whom you put out there. Edwards, Allen and the Williams wall is tough to stop. Pack are looking to break the sacks against record. I'm not sure if he was referring to the Bears or the Packers' O-line with that comment, but it really doesn't matter because they're both awful.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) I don't think anyone is. There's no one in this thread regarding this issue that has manufactured outrage, except bmags reacting to what I posted. Everyone, in so many words, has concurred with what I originally said, which was that the manufactured criticism is bulls***.
  12. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Nice to see the rotten Cleveland Browns putting pressure on Cutler because our line sucks so bad. These guys have hit a new low.
  13. So, I finished my last 2 assignments and already got my final grades back (A). I'm basically done with undergrad finally. It hasn't really set in yet.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) The point I was trying to make was that every President, even Bush, did the same types of things with regards to honoring the injured and deceased. Perhaps this specific location, Dover, wasn't visited by Bush but in the grand scheme of things they're all the same regarding this "issue". Then you aren't really saying anything differently from what NSS is saying.
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) meh, just go around the corner and put on an AIG banker suit. The GOP loyalist will certainly shower you with handouts.
  16. Early on in this thread I noticed a lot of cognitive bias but it evened out after a couple of pages. The Hawks right now are a much better team than the Bulls, and they're having a surge in popularity and a general return to relevance after they spent so many years as the laughingstock of the NHL. The Bulls are sort of treading water right now in terms of quality but they are still a major draw, and if they were as good as the Hawks are right now I wonder would attendance even be an issue.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) Not unless it is on himself... The national commentators usually pretty do a good job of that.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) There is a difference between trust and paranoia. Not really, we've been down this road before. If you dismiss everything as untrustworthy and accept absolutely nothing at face value, well then you may as well just live in a bubble and never go outside.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) I Bush never went to Dover because of the policy the DoD had about photographing the caskets that he more or less tacitly approved of. It had nothing to do with wanting to look like a photo-op or not. He has been, and should be, criticized for strategic blunders that probably cost more lives then they should have, I've read a lot about what Bush went through when he met with those families and to say he didn't care is silly and really unfair to the man. Obama's visiting Dover was an entirely appropriate gesture and it's just as s***ty, offensive even, to imply the same about him so the non-controversy is really pissing me off. Whatever way the POTUS deems appropriate to show respect is fine by me. As long as they do it. Now if we're talking about Cheney not caring... hey, all bets are off, I'm convinced human lives were nothing more than numbers on a powerpoint slide or a spreadsheet to him.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) You see...you're a politician at heart. If all politicians considered reality the same way I did then we'd be good to go.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Anyone that follows politics realizes that these people are, for lack of better words, professional liars for a living. Politicians don't run polls except internally for campaigning purposes. And in those cases it's not in their interest to lie because they're lying only to themselves, and won't have accurate information to help them decide how to run their campaign, which would be pretty stupid.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Well it is obvious that he hates our troops and America and is doing it just to look good. Obviously.
  23. Latest phony idiocy - criticizing Obama for going to Dover and being photographed while saluting the bodies (nevermind that the press is always there). What, is he supposed to do it in secret or some s***? Of all things to make a controversy over, this? For real?
  24. It really isn't very hard to tell what a poll is saying or what its angle is. Really, it isn't. Anyone who follows politics can tell and the questions asked are always there to make judgments from. Saying otherwise is just doubting for the sake of doubt.
  25. I've never seen anyone be murdered. Therefore, the existence of murder is questionable.
