  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) I'll go ahead and say it. With Jones toast, and Wolfe injured, the Bears should be courting Larry Johnson. And pick up that contract?
  2. Right now in Israel, the Prime Minister's party technically lost the election, but the party that got more votes isn't running the government because they couldn't put a coalition together.
  3. I'm not bashing Dye - but he also fell apart in '08 too when we needed him most.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) Doesn't usually involve a marine and a tire iron though. No, generally just as dumb but not that zealous.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) I'm not quite sure what point I'm trying to make here, but I found this interesting, and yet, didn't want to post it in the Texas thread. lol you would be surprised at the s*** I see people reporting to the FBI. Some of them just amount to "I saw a brown guy doing something besides standing still and minding his business."
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) it IS an Army base, they do have gates and guards, would be easy to keep the press away, if they wanted to. Sure, they would be camped outside the gates, but that doesn't mean he needs to go hunting for the cameras. A quick visit could have and should have been arranged, without a gaggle of media along. That would be historically unprecedented too. The US president is a public figure, cameras come with the territory.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Look at who the parties represent today and the fringes that manage each of them, not to mention how many people vote and drive the political process here. You can't tell me that we don't have a minority of a minority running this country today. Well if you really want to follow that line of thinking to its conclusion, just follow the cash.
  8. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) I'll echo every little kid's dream job. Video Game Designer. Loved playing them when I was younger and wanted to make them but who woulda thunk I'd have not touched a console in two years. Anything sports always peaked my interest as well. I wanted to do that but I never actually thought about making a career of it for some reason.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) "A party of fiscal/business conservatives and social liberals." Isn't that the Libertarian Party? They're a lot farther to the right economically. Borderline anarchy. There really is no "medium government" party.
  10. QUOTE (juddling @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 01:40 AM) I guess this guy was on the radar of a couple of our agencies as he was trying to make contact with al Qaeda. But we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by bringing up the possibility of him being a terrorist. Link Marc Lynch explains this better than I can. The people who matter (who, by the way, aren't the president or senior government officials) know what to do, and it's going to be done. If he's a terrorist, and he probably is, then that route is going to be pursued. But you're not going to see the government get into counterproductive chest-thumping and cheap vote-whoring like we used to do back in 2002.
  11. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) Where did he go instead? ?? He's going to Texas today to meet with the families and then do a memorial service. Unless you're saying the fact that he didn't immediately drop everything he was doing and fly out within an hour of finding it happened is somehow insulting?
  12. When I was in 3rd grade or so I wanted to be an astronaut like pretty much all kids. Later on I wanted to be a machinist (wtf? I don't know) and by the time I was a teenager I wanted to be either an electrical engineer or an IT tech. I had an internship with Lucent Technologies before they went under and all that fun stuff and I decided engineering was boring so I was going to major in computer science. Then I impulsively joined the Army and eventually ended up doing government consulting which is NOTHING AT ALL like ANYTHING I pictured myself doing when I was a kid.
  13. Already the Drudge/Malkin/etc. freak show started politicizing it over the weekend and talking about how Obama was so insensitive to have not visited Fort Hood yet, nevermind the fact that he's going tomorrow morning, they are acting like he's ignoring it entirely. They're incredibly predictable.
  14. If you look at most (actually, probably all) major terrorist figures you see that their appeal comes mostly from personality and they either have no religious education, or it's very flimsy and just for appearances. They usually tend to have degrees in things like engineering, mathematics, medicine etc. that has nothing to do with Islam, but they self-appoint themselves as spokesmen.
  15. Holy s***, just about anything is politicized these days. Disgusting.
  16. I had a f***ed up dream involving a female co-worker flying an F-22, who proceeds to crash it. As a result of the crash she got decapitated but she was still alive, talking "oh this sucks" etc. So some other dude in the dream walks over to her disembodied head and steps on her neck to stop the bleeding (nevermind that if this happened, first off she'd be dead instantly and the blood would be spurting from her body, not her head). She rolls her eyes and says "oh, what a day." I was going to tell her about this dream the next day but it's too f***ing bizarre to share.
  17. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Jay Cutler is a franchise QB... the bears are still closer to winning a super this year than they were last year. Agreed, but Nick Markakis on the Nationals would make them closer to winning a World Series
  18. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) this really has to happen. This is lovie's D. he ran rivera out to implement his own system. It didn't work. The D is so bad...thank god we at least have a few offensive weapons to build around going forward Rivera was due a new contract that would've mean they had to give him a substantial raise and really he wasn't all that. What would Rivera do with these players right now? When Rivera was here, and needed to make adjustments, what happened? Nothing... What's he doing right now in SD? Nothing
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) Really? The Democrats are lining them up one after another, yet you all seem to think that this is the best thing to ever happen. Oh wait, it's because they are LYING THEIR ASS OFF about what's really happening. They can't tell the truth, or what you would say would happen. I have no idea what you're saying here, what I said doesn't have anything to do with democrats or republicans. Democrats may lie or sugarcoat their tax increases but that's because the idea of a tax increase is politically toxic. But if you want to cut taxes just say "hey I'm cutting taxes guys!" And nobody will ask you if it'll affect the deficit.
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) That would be bad and not nearly as effective as Republicans just giving you cash in the form of a tax cut to buy your vote. I was actually going to say this, there is no limit to the amount of tax cuts you can propose, but proposing a tax increase (for any reason, even if it's to stop a necessary government program from choking to death) is political suicide these days.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 09:59 AM) Look at your 1-10 year old kids, think about them having kids, and apologize now, because these kids (and their kids) will never, ever see the opportunities we have had up until now. Ever. They will be working for the state to sustain this boondoggle we call government. Truth be told this is a path that was started on about 30 or 40 years ago, and conservatives like to look back at the Reagan administration and say he was part of the solution, but if they're being honest and actually looked at the graphs and charts they'd see he, and his policies (uberhigh military spending + tax cuts = exploding deficits) they'd see that was actually part of the problem and isn't the answer they think they've found, either.

    The Droid

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) I had Sprint for like 8 years up until about 3 months ago. Sprints prices are pretty good, their coverage was incredible and they had a lot of the top phones. Their customer service was brutal however. I just switched to AT&T just to get the iphone and their reception is such horse s*** its ridiculous. Some people say the iphone on top of AT&T contributes to the poor service but either way its terrible. I drop calls when I am at home on wifi 10 feet away from my router and I get zero reception in the high rise in the city I am working unless I am by a window that faces south. Im pretty sure I am going to switch to t-mobile so I can keep my iphone and drop AT&T. From what I hear they are pretty good and they are very accommodating to setting up people with iphones and picking the best plans. Anyone with T-mobile have any insight to how their reception is? It's fantastic, maybe not as good as Verizon but still really good. When I first got my G1 last year I didn't used to get 3G unless I was in Baltimore or DC but they've upgraded so I get it in my house in the suburbs now. But just about anywhere I go I get at least 3 bars.
  23. The Sox quite literally subsidized Gomez's batting average in '08 and without us spotting him about 30 or so points of his average on the year he would have been f***ing brutal in '08 just like he was in '09. In '09 he played just as bad against the Sox as he did against MLB so I think that about shattered the illusion that he was on his way to being a good offensive player.
  24. Actually didn't Obama piss them off too, for the same thing during his campaign? Subtly putting them down, telling them to back off? I mean obviously it didn't have any effect but still.
  25. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) So are you saying that the Democratic Party is going to come out and disavow this campaign, because they don't want to chase anyone out of the party? The party leadership won't say anything, and may even support this movement by Moveon.org, as it puts addiutional pressure on Blue Dogs to toe the party line without the party itself having to exert pressure itself. Eh it's not really in their lane, not something they can control directly, so probably something they'd want to stay out of. What would you do if you were the head of the DNC (assuming you were a Democrat)? You want the party to be as strong as possible and hold onto as many seats as possible. No reason to openly favor one candidate over another, let it play itself out and support the stronger candidate.
