So White Sox were to meet with Landis at 11 and there hasn't been any info about that meeting... I hope they are busy figuring out details and are soon to announce the Paul Konerko/J.J Putz signings.
-
Sox players I've spoken to are still hearing that PK deal will happen. It better happen soon, because KW now has a Plan B in case. - Cowley
-
I have feeling you will see Alexei batting 2nd, and Beckham batting 8th, barring a miraculous spring by Gordon.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) I'm sure Ozzie will carefully examine those particular stats while completing his lineup card.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) I personally think of "best hitter" as the most complete. In this case I think Konerko. My lineup would have Konerko 3 and Dunn 4. If its the other way around, Konerko might set the record for GIDP as much as Dunn will be on. Dunn doesn't ground into nearly as many DP's. But it was a damn good post Welcome aboard

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) See, you think the best hitter is a guy who hits for a high average. ' Bucket of suck thinks the best hitter is the guy who produces the most runs. There's a difference of opinion as to what characteristic the best hitter should have... But in both cases we can agree that the 'run producer' hits 4th and guy with the best average hits 3rd.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) but he's also likely the best power hitter on the team as well. Yup, hence if I was sure Paulie will repeat his season from last year I'd probably want him third and Dunn fourth, but that's just me.

White Sox could be top 5 payroll team in 2011

QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) It doesnt look like even if there is insurance on Peavy that the insurance will pay enough to justify a 25M bump in payroll for 2010. Reinsdorf said today the payroll will be around $110M, TIFWIW. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) Ideally, you'd want your best hitter hitting 4th. It depends on the lineup, but in our lineup's case, you're looking at a .320 OBP in Alexei and a .330 in Pierre for the 1 and 2 spots. Dunn wouldn't have many hitters on if he hit 3rd so you'd be wasting his bat in the first around 35% of the time. I'd much rather have Dunn leadoff the second than hit with nobody on and two outs in the first. I thought you want your best hitter hitting 3rd and your biggest hitter (HR hitter) batting cleanup.

Ozzie: Pk knows we want him. Kenny and jerry have talked about it. The direction we are going in is a good one. Ozzie: Sale or thornton is the closer in my mind right now Ozzie: Biggest concern is to keep carlos quentin healthy and get him the at-bats he needs Ozzie on if PK is back: I want Dunn to hit in first innng so I might bat him third. May put Rios fourth to get speed between Dunn and PK - WTF? This all from Scott Reifert.

The official Winter Meetings trade idea thread
justBLAZE replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Who is better defensively in the OF. Dunn or CQ? They're both AWFUL. Dunn has no business in the OF. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Wonder what our package consisted of, most certainly Dayan, not sure where we would have went from there. If Sox were able to get Adrian, do you still think we would have an offer for Paulie?

Hearing #chisox made 2nd best offer to #padres for a-gon. Once they were told no, they went for dunn. - Jon Heyman

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) jonmorosi Reinsdorf on Konerko: "He belongs in Chicago." #WhiteSox 12 minutes ago jonmorosi Asked if he expects Konerko to be with #WhiteSox by end of this week, Reinsdorf said, "I hope so." 12 minutes ago The sox are certinly putting a lot of pressure of Paulie, by publicly saying they have deferred money and have the gm, a newly signed huge fa signee, and the chairmen of the board all saying Paulie can have what he wants to come back. If Paulie decodes to go elsewhere the front office is setting him up to be the bad guy. I posted this in the Konero thread, I say we keep Konerko and all the other Winter Meetings stuff separate.

Kenny Williams StateOfTheSox before Winter Meetings. Cool video, Kenny says the usual stuff but he does happen to mention that Sale will be in the bullpen and he might get a crack at closing.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) I wonder what kind of hit PK would take to his legacy here if he signed with the Diamondbacks for a similar or lesser offer than what we were offering him... It would upset me if did for equal or less, if he does for more money, I guess I'm fine with that. Jon Morosi Asked if he expects Konerko to be with #WhiteSox by end of this week, Reinsdorf said, "I hope so." Reinsdorf on Konerko: "He belongs in Chicago." #WhiteSox

Chuck Garfien: White Sox meeting with Paul Konerko's agent Craig Landis at 11am eastern. Diamondbacks reportedly making big push.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) I'm just SHOCKED that his agent would say he's "ready to go". Or maybe, I'm just not good at detecting your sarcasm. I wasn't sarcastic, here is a direct quote for you: He may not be the biggest name among Scott Boras' free agent third base clients, but Joe Crede is hoping to earn a contract for 2011. According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com (via Twitter), Boras says Crede is "healthy, ready to go and he's going to continue his career. He's ready to come back and play."

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:30 AM) Do you really think Morel is capable of hitting 20-30 homers per year? That's a bit of a stretch...to even his most ardent fans? Whether Morel can develop into a "clutch" performer like a Uribe or Crede at the plate, time will tell. Joe's first full year with the White Sox AVG .261 OBP .308 SLG .433 OPS .741 OPS +92 I think we can expect similar out of Morel, maybe down on the power numbers.. Joe's hit 19 HR , I say Morel hits 10.

QUOTE (T R U @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:04 AM) lol If we had a $180 million payroll we would more than likely be selling out every game and most likely the AL Central favorite every season.. Itd be like being able to sign Dunn and Konerko.. and THEN signing Carl Crawford and Cliff Lee as well.. and then signing the rest of the holes This team could definitely afford that payroll, hell every team can.. these owners didnt make their money from their teams, they have plenty of money.. owning a team is just an extra thing that they are allowed to have because of how much money they have made from their other ventures.. Its ridiculous to discuss this anyways because it will never happen, but if it did happen it would work If the organization didn't make enough money to run itself and make profit then owners would be losing money and they won't let that happen.
